Totally forgot he was in Space Jam, I might have to revisit that one. I love Bill Murray. Groundhog Day and Ghostbusters are two of my favorite movies.

How did he not win a Tony for Caddyshack?

One time I was at Chicago O'Hara and Bill Murray came up, bought me a drink and told me GB 3 was going to happen.

He then whispered "Nobody will ever believe you"

And they don't :(

That movie was hilarious ... and the only reason was because of him.

I wish we could see the uncut scenes from Meatballs where Bill teaches Chris Makepace about the passion that could be had between two men, but it seems the screener audience did not like that ending.

All we have left is the song that was playing when they went out for their morning run.
If you let me,
I could be your good friend
I know that if you let me
We could walk together

We're not so different at all
Though we may have different dreams
When they fall apart, we hurt the same it seems

I'm so sure, so don't you bet me
I just know that if you let me
I'll show you that I could be your good friend

Someone to share your good times
Someone who you can count on
That someone who, when you turn to,
Won't turn away

Groundhog Day managed to get that idea of unending repetition into pop culture under that title. Few movies or books manage to make that sort of impact on language so fast.

The other day, I ran into a young fellow that claimed to have been on security detail for the Dalai Lama. I asked "What's he like? I mean, I hear, he's a big hitter, the Lama, is it true?"

And the guy didn't have any idea at all. He dodged the question and ventured some useless crap about how he goes to bed at 6pm and shakes hands a little too closely. I wanted to tell him that he had failed a pop culture question that would have marked him as a nazi/soviet spy a couple generations back.

"Lost in Translation" is a good movie. It's a "mood movie". And like pretty much all "mood movies", it really only works on the first viewing.

/Farkers don't like it because it doesn't have any fighting robots or orcs in it.

Yep, he was a friend of the producer.  A couple of teamsters dropped him off.

Bill Murray did 9/11.  He explained it all to me, it's really insane.  You think those "truthers" are on to something"  pfft, not even close.  I'd go into detail, but it would be futile.  Bill told me no one would ever believe me.  And he was right.  No one ever has.

There's one scene at the beginning of the movie that all but guarantees it's a classic. I don't care if the rest was an hour and a half of Dane Cook and Carrot Top making fart noises with their armpits

Haha, true enough. But I'm sometimes pleasantly surprised by younger folks who know and appreciate some of the movies that were the air that my friends and I breathed when we were their age.

List needs more Zombieland.

I think Lost in Translation would have been largely forgettable if not for the ending. I was so conflicted about how to resolve the tension between Bill and Scarlett Johansson, and then it was resolved perfectly, in a way I couldn't have predicted.

He once called Chevy Chase "Medium talent!" So a toast to you, Mr. Murray.

He also calls actress Kelly Lynch's husband, Mitch Glazer, who's a close friend, whenever Road House is on just to inform him that Patrick Swayze is screwing his wife on TV again.

Groundhog Day.
Stripes.
Ghostbusters.

For any one of them Bill deserves the Hero tag.

Also his role in Zombieland was totally unexpected and thus doubly hilarious to me.

If you would like to know the actual ending there is an audio extraction one the webs that will tell you.

It's more anti-climactic than not knowing, though. Makes me glad Radiohead never explained the whisper in their music video for Just.
