Was the original Finnish? I can't remember for sure, but that was a good movie. Another version done just as well would be a must see....

I thought it was Norwegian, but you may be right.

Either way, great flick.

Yah, imdb has it as Norway.

A movie set in the politics tab?

Why? Because Murkins can't be arsed to read subtitles? I never understood why they made a remake of The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, either. The original was awesome.

Will they change "Harry Potter's" name or will they have the balls to keep it.

Yeah I really enjoyed it too.

Subby must be partial to trolls.

Of course Ain't It Cool News is enthusiastic about the remake. It's a movie where a cameo by Harry Knowles wouldn't just be acceptable, but appropriate.

I like Neil Marshall but this movie really does not need a remake.

Not that the original "Troll Hunter" was that great. It was okay, but it's not like a remake of "Old Boy".

2013-09-21 06:09:36 PM
I'm not saying it's trolls... but it's trolls.

"Let the Right One In" also didn't need a dumbed down remake.

I'm skeptical it'll be any good.

I had low expectations of the first one, but gave it a shot. I thought it was great. The right amount of cheese, great effects and a fun experience.

I was perplexed as to why they were going to remake "Let the Right One In" several years after the original. And the remake sucked. They botched so many things that made the original great, especially the bizarre "cat attack" scene. And the pool finale of the original was intense and amusing, whereas the remake was "meh".

On what is a tenuous related note, I was letting my 3 year old scroll through the kids section of Netflix this week for movies on my iPad and he was glued to an episode of the first season of "Transformers". I explained to him that I used to watch that same cartoon when I was little kid and he was blown away by that. He thought it was the coolest cartoon he'd ever seen.

Classics remain classics, I guess.

You may be thinking of Rare Exports - IIRC both movies came to the US around the same time

Saw "Drug War" at the theaters a few weeks back.  Very good movie.

This is all I could think of while watching that movie. Hopefully they make the trolls less ridiculous.

/yeah, yeah, yeah they're traditional, folklore-ish depictions, but they look like David the Gnome

Has possibilities, but I think being in a foreign (to me) language went a long way to adding to the documentary feel of the original Troll Hunter. The point where he is wearing full 'knight' body armor and gets tossed around like a rag doll was amusing. The end with the giant was losing me a bit.

The original was decent, cheesy and fun, and somewhat suspenseful.

Remaking it with some shirtless teenage vampire will really suck.

Fark Harry Knowles.

Troll Hunter was a memorable movie. As in, it's one of very few movies I've walked away from after getting 2/3 of the way through.

Also, remaking Scandinavian movies merely for the sake of removing the subtitles is good for making money, but does not make the film better. Foreign-ness is not a bad thing.

Rare Exports is available on Netflix.

Benjamin Stone: Fark Harry Knowles.

I dont think this could possibly be posted enough times to ever be enough.

A lot of troll hunter hate in this thread, sorry you guys had to read.

But agree this movie does not need to be remade, American Trolls? absolutely no mythos in America to account for that.  They would have to use bigfoot.

What a badass might look like.

Probably won't bother with the remake, but the original Troll Hunter was awesome and a lot of fun.  Kudos to netflix for having it.

God Harry's site sucks now.  It used to be fun years and years ago before Harry started selling reviews, getting caught, then lying about it.

The original was brought down by the fact that the trolls looked like goofy muppets or fraggle rock characters.

I'm not that keen on an American remake (Though I don't think it would be entirely easy to fark up), but I've yet to understand this line of thinking it at all. It's like saying dragons aren't really a part of American mythos as they are in China or Japan, therefore American audiences will never understand a movie with dragons. At best, it's an oddly pedantic argument.

I would be willing to bet the "trolls like Christian blood" plot point would be dropped.

They should have Chris Rock attached and make it an all-black ensemble cast so they can ruin it like Death at a Funeral.

Because it wasn't American enough.

It actually *SHOULD* be dropped.  Doesn't make scientific sense.  Movies about giant monsters should make scientific sense.

I quit that site many years back....for some reason I like my film reviews to actually discuss the FILM and not consist of wistful remembrances to an obese childhood full of masturbation references.

Just not a fan of someone calling "I'll say whatever you want me to say about your film if you'll let me visit the shoot" a review.

The last straw was when they snubbed Harry Morgan's passing....no obit.

Come the fark ON.  HARRY MORGAN???

Could have been worse.  Could have snubbed Jack Klugman.
