Ah, Ohio State vs. Florida A&M. A matchup which would be much more intriguing as a battle of the bands than a battle of the football teams.   Unfortunately, the FAMU band did not make the trip.

Pretty sure it was a jab at the huge fark up they refs made vs Wisconsin giving asu the win.

And waiting for people to crow about how ESPN went to an Div II school, see they're relevant! When its only because its shiat scrub weekend in CFB.

No cable for me, but I'm curious. Does Gameday still do the celebrity pick at the end w/ Corso? If so, who are they getting for the pick?

Smart money says Chuck Klosterman (NDSU alum). But what if Phil Jackson (ND native) agreed to it?

You realize that NDSU is a Div I school?  Div II is where they came from.   Div I is FBS + FCS.

Not only that but NDSU is a repeat National Championship team, beat the last 4 FBS schools they have played, have a 7-2 record against FBS teams, and would be ranked #54 if they were in the FBS....better than over half of the current FBS teams.   How is that for 'not relevant'?   Las Vegas is putting odds up that 'Bama would beat NDSU today by 32 1/2 points if they played....and has 'Bama beating Colorado by 39 points.

Perhaps he is just upset that GameDay passed over his favorite school (or runner up school) and feels it sullies GameDay's rep by going to anything outside the FBS?  I mean, the only football worth watching is in the FBS...or high school football if you are in Texas, right?   GameDay is only supposed to cover REAL college football which means only going to FBS schools so I have a feeling another comment he will make will be that GameDay has 'jumped the shark".  Anyone willing to take that bet?

Unfortunately Vanderbilt didn't show up.  :(

fark playing lower division teams.  I would really prefer my Buckeyes never scheduling I-AA teams.  Youngstown St was forgivable as a tribute (and a payday) for Tressel's old team, but that should have been the one and only time.

I guess this one wasn't really a choice either, but more a result of the mighty SEC not wanting to get blasted out of Ohio Stadium, dispelling the foolish myth that we'd be bottom barrel in that conference.  Hanging 60 on Vandy wouldn't really play well into that myth they've crafted.

I could actually see that as an argument, because logically they should be in California since that is the biggest game and last I checked ESPN does still have the broadcast rights to their playoffs.

All anyone else can see is how ESPN must care to give the little guys some coverage when all they're really doing is trying to get ratings and seems to be shiatting on something they don't control. But support the big dog as long as he's on your side, right small schools???

steamingpile: aiting for people to crow about how ESPN went to an Div II school, see they're relevant! When its only because its shiat scrub weekend in CFB.

i didn't read the story, but locally (Phoenix) there was an article that said ESPN going to NDSU is a snub to the Pac 12, as arguably Stanford / ASU is the best matchup. and on the radio i half-heard someone talking about, saying hte Pac-12 networks are in bed with Dish Network, not DirecTV, and somehow (I GUESS?) DirectTV and ESPN are in cahoots?

it sounded  weird but yeah, short version:  Pac 12 is butthurt.

I'm sure this is all true.  I don't mind Vanderbilt being called chicken, we opened on Thursday in the 2nd nationally televised game of the year.  It was one of the best games of the weekend even though we lost. I'll take that trade any day.

I just find it funny that he mentions how the Big Ten pulls 'cupcakes' from the MAC (even though the MAC has become a slightly bigger contender the past few years and had some nice upsets) while Vandy is playing a MAC team this week.

OSU and Texas doing a home and home in the mid 2000s was great. Teams with championship aspirations scheduling each other as OOC opponents? Doesn't happen often enough (understandably - bit of a risk/reward problem).

Cal & Vandy in back to back weeks would have been a decent schedule, Vandy pulling out of the game really sucked - hard to believe FAMU was the only one who could change their dance card.

Conferences should rotate a set week of conference games with each other. (This year SEC/B1G in week 4, next year B1G/PAC10 in week 4, etc.).  Though the old Big East would be VERY popular...

OSU has been reaching out to BCS conference champs for home and home games for over a decade.  The problem is, very few teams in that position have the stones to lay it all on the line week 2 or 3.  The other problem is, the conference champ can turn into a conference turd in the ~10 years between scheduling and actual game.  See: OSU-Washington home and home series back in the early 2000's.

Delusions of grandeur after beating AP and WKU. It's still the mess that Kiffin/Dooley/Hamilton left. Butch seems to be doing things better, and recruiting looks good, but him signing a contract doesn't make UT automatically full of 5 star players. Going to take some time.

That being said, I'd love to see UT beat a ranked SEC team this year.

Pretty much all the games are ranked teams vs. cupcakes this week (except the one you mentioned). If you look at OSU schedule, they do not have a significant real challenge until the B1G conference play starts. Truth is, they do not deserve to be ranked as high as they are, based on their strength of schedule.

Even Michigan has a cupcake later on this evening (U-Conn).  Hopefully they play a helluva lot better than they did vs. Akron (WTF?! that game was bees).

It's the type of call that should lead to an investigation.  An "oopsie" like that looks suspiciously like game rigging.  15 seconds to set a dead ball is far beyond the pale.  In a 12 game season, that 1 loss for Wisconsin could be the difference between being the 2nd Big Ten team in a BCS game and being left at home, which equates to big time money.  The college game is a little too high profile for that kind of thing to be acceptable, especially given how subjective rankings are.  You can't afford to have refs making or breaking the game when one loss can completely ruin your season.

My Buckeyes are going to hand the Badgers loss #2 next week anyways, so I don't much care either way, but fark ups like that get people fired in almost every line of work I can think of.

Oh god I hope so, but our recent strategy seems to be 1) open ass 2) insert head. I cite last year versus Florida and Georgia as evidence. Butch seems to have done a better job coaching up the talent than Dooley though, so...

I have some friends who worked as student trainers and the like in the program over the past few years. According to them the talent is there for better records than what we produced, but Dooley et al made several boneheaded moves (e.g. the handling of Rogers) and just generally lost the locker room. You're correct that we don't have the talent to consistently beat good teams; however, I think if we get into another Florida (up at halftime) or Georgia/Mizzou (shootout to the last minute) game, then we have a better shot at winning now than we did last year. We may not have five star talent, but we should have produced a better on-field product the last couple of years.

If you think a coach with the respect of his players isn't worth a win or two more a year given equal talent, then I kindly submit our embarrassment versus Wyoming as evidence in support of my claim. That game came on the heels of UT announcing Fulmer's "retirement", and the players came out flat. You could clearly see (even from the nosebleed seats I was in) that the players had a "why bother, playing well isn't going to help me going into next year" attitude (most notably, guys on the backside didn't finish out plays). That took what should have been a 7-6 or 6-7 year and made it a 5-7 year.

Voted as funny because this is pretty damn funny. =P

What makes the game even better, is that it is shaping up to effectively be the conference championship. IF Ohio doesn't get too far ahead of itself, and Michigan plays like they know they should (run run run control the clock and play dominant defense) then Nov.30th will be a damn good game.

Northwestern and Wisconsin will be some really good challenges though.

The Game is going to be the defacto conference championship game nearly every year, just like it has been for decades.  If the rest of the Big Ten doesn't get it's shiat together, the disparity between michigan/ohio st and the rest of the conference will continue to widen.

Aside from Wiscy and NW, Indiana has a puncher's chance against anyone with an offense like that.

I think there's some golf on.  The only "big" matchups are going to be the shockers where some scrub upsets a good team.  Georgia just put the nail in the coffin on their cupcake.  That was as close to an exciting game as we've had so far.

Mich St. vs Notre Dame might be a good matchup, but probably won't be a super exciting show.

A fact?  NEVER?  Thats funny, because Ohio State is 7-2-1 in regular season games and 0-9 in bowl games (even though they beat Arkansas on the field...) against the SEC.  NEVER?  Check your facts.

Well we just lost Marshall/VA Tech. Even the golf is a tape-delay blowout. Might be a day to do something crazy like take a walk or read a book.

LOLOLOLOLOLOLOL Georgia had three top ten teams in the first four games.  Who the hell have you played again?

Hahaha.

And this is what the in-game odds looked like for the Kansas/LA Tech game.

With 1:47 to play and the game tied, LA Tech was on the Kansas 18. They had it at 96.3% likely to win.

Fumbled.

KU went 60 yards and kicked a 52 yard FG to win.

Ah, thanks. I've been ignoring NCAAf the past couple of weeks (not by choice), and after a quick scan of today's slate I couldn't find anything that interested me, thought I might be missing something. Guess I'll keep an eye on the scoreboard to see if any upsets start brewing.

Sun Devils at Trees kicks at 7 eastern on Fox.  I think it's the only game with 2 ranked teams.

Speaking of ASU's ranking, WTF?  They clearly were beaten by Wisky and needed Pac-12 officials to step in and protect the win.

That is something the idiotic pollsters shouldn't reward.

Uhh, that doesn't look like "obvious" pass interference to me.  That looks like an ND receiver trying to tangle up a DB who has a step on then falling on his face.

... dude. As a fellow Wolverine fan, just stop. Losing to Appy St. is one of the biggest upsets in college football history. It's possible to point directly to that game and call it a key reason that Michigan football went into the tank for about 5 years, and that we're still feeling the effects of that game.  Every week before playing a "cupcake", Michigan coaches should play that game for the team to remind them that just having the maize and blue doesn't mean they're going to win.

San Diego State up by 10 points at the half over Oregon State...most first-half points they've scored against a BCS team since 1999...

However, being a San Diego sports fan I'm fully prepared for the almost inevitable 2nd-half collapse & loss.

freak7: Techhell: Losing to Appy St. is one of the biggest upsets in college football history.

That's a ridiculous opinion. Had Appy St been able to be ranked, they would have easily been in the top 15 at the end of the season. Not even close to being one of the biggest upsets, the loss to Toledo was a bigger upset.

Dude. Give it up. You don't like being reminded of Appy St - I get it. But denying how big of an upset it actually was is the kind of thinking that leads to games like against Akron last week. And the idea that Toledo was a bigger upset, in the middle of the worst season in Michigan since 1962, is slightly amusing. I'm not even sure how much of an upset it really was, considering it was the year where RichRod tried to turn Michigan into a new kind of team and everything was going nutty.

I'm not sure I'd go so far as to call it a RichRod impression - I think that Gardner has lost his confidence and has lost the team, and there's no one else for Hoke to turn to. The longer he's in there, the worse things seem to be getting.

It might turn out to be a very long year if Gardner can't figure things out in a hurry, as Big 10 play starts next week.

I seriously hope you're just a troll.

There's no way Appy St would have been ranked - that's perhaps the most ridiculous thing you've posted about the game. Look at how long it took for Boise St. to be taken seriously, and it was playing in the same division as Michigan et al. In 2006 it had a perfect season, ended up ranked 4(!?) and then in 2007 the preseason rank was 24.  And you're seriously trying to say that Appy St. would have been ranked higher than Boise St.? Whatever you're smoking, STOP SMOKING it.

*snicker* I'm loving this! You forgot that Appy St. beat Michigan on Week 1, didn't you, and so the final rankings for the year are somewhat... nonsensical for this topic, much like most of your posts in these threads?  Preseason ranking for 2007 - the ranking that would have been applicable when Appy St beat a 5th ranked Michigan? - Boise St: 24 or 23. The 2006 season - the most recent season which to base potential Week 1 rankings - Boise St. was 13-0, ranked 5 or 6, had a vote for #1 in the AP Poll. (Michigan was ranked 8 or 9 at the end of 2006, below Boise St.)

So why would you put Appy St above Boise St? C'mon, you can do this! I'm not even asking you for you to show your work - if you want to say "Because the Lizard People smelled purple for tacos!", that's okay.

Dude I get it and I hate Boise St, that's no secret here but to even remotely think Appalachian state would be ranked higher by the end of the year is moronic. There is a reason their players aren't at a Div I school, if they're good enough a bigger school would have taken them, even Boise.
