(Khaosod (Thailand))   Aw shucks, it sure is tough being just a private in the army, instead of an officer. Hey, I know, I'll dress up as a general. Then I can intimidate all the local bar owners into 'forgetting' about the bar tab...yeah that could work   (khaosod.co.th) divider line 34

The penalty for skipping out on a bar tab is probably not 50 years in a rat-infested PMITA prison... but the penalty for impersonating a general probably is. Nice call there, skippy.

Director of Of Tourism Dept. of the Royal Thai Army???  A general is needed to run that??  And we thought we had problems here in the US.

all of this over a $58 bar tab.

Might have worked better if no one had asked why the general looked like a goddamned 16-year-old...

Also: Might have worked better if Private Dumbass had a little bit more brains than to impersonate an officer. Aim low, is what I'm saying--impersonate a lieutenant, maybe a captain. Not a general. Stupid farking idiot.

The_Original_Roxtar: all of this over a $58 bar tab.

$58 buys a lot of booze in thailand.

I was there for senior trip in 07, I was hammered every night and most of the days for two weeks and I maybe spent $75 on booze.

A 21-year-old general? Guy was on the fast track. Most military folk have to put in like... 4 or 5 years, at least, before they make general. Sometimes even more.

That fact probably tipped off the locals.

This reminds me of when I did my tour as a Coast Guard sniper.  We lost a lot of good men to General Tso at La Choy on the Kikkoman Trail.

At my local, we had a fellow come in Blues with Khaki.  He was nice and a couple people bought him drinks. He kept his cover on the whole time and that kind of made me wonder.  A younger friend of mine who had recently returned from Afganistan and was considering signing a new contract since his was winding down had also taken notice of the fellow and made a comment on how he's likely just a recruiter.  A short while later a couple big Army guys, both sergeants came in and my friend got up to go say "Hi" and chat with them.  The "Marine" seemed to look a bit nervous and had become a bit quiet and my friend noticed this too and went  to welcome him and invite over. Not long after my friend ends up getting in a bit of a gruff with this guy and the sergeants went over to see what's up and pull my friend back.  A couple words and all was ok for the moment an then one of the sergeants got real upset and told the "Marine" to get the hell out of his sight, out of the bar and out of that uniform before he removes it from him.  As you can guess, no he was no Marine, borrowed the uniform from his roommate and thought he'd get a few free drinks that way.   Maybe next time he tries that he might want to pick a bar that doesn't cater our boys in uniform! I think the man was lucky he met these guys and not some others that may not have been so nice!  How dumb can you get?

Just a reminder, the ASVAB still lets some pretty dumb people into the military - the lowest scores will still get you into the jobs of 'cook' and 'infantry'.

I was Army, but hung out with enough Marines, to know this guy was lucky that the sergeants weren't, you know, the actual Marines, because, based on experience, things would have taken a different turn, probably for the hospital.  The soldiers were just disgusted that the puke was pretending to be military, jarheads would have taken it personal.

Are you saying that the general is captaining a private organization?  Seems like a major waste of money.

It's one thing to play "pretend", like at the military buff's conventions, where it's like cosplay, and everybody involved, has never worn the uniforms for real.  Active duty and vets, look at that, and say, "Whatever", at least I do, because you know these people never grew out of playing Army, as kids.  But, to wear the uniform in a attempt to pass yourself off as something you aren't, is insulting to those, who had to earn the right to be called a soldier, marine, sailor or airman.

Oh, great!  Pretend chicks for a pretend Admiral, huh?  Maybe I should hold off on getting that uniform made, then.  It would have been a great uniform, all white with gold braid, and I was going to award myself all kinds of medals, like a North Korean general would have, you know: Defense of the Fark, 2012; Battle of Politics Tab, 2011; The Geek Tab Insurrection, 2010; etc.

It's ridiculous and tactless and makes that person look like a loser.  But it's not worth violence or even a significant amount of stress.

Meh...he'll probably just get off with a couple or three months of KP or latrine duty. My guess is that he's probably related to one of the local bigwigs who'll pay plenty to keep his ass from getting stood up in front of a firing squad or at the very least, getting court-martialled.
