I wonder how much the NFL made in free publicity?

Her attorney's comment at the end.  Fantastic.  And he didn't even mention Janet's boobie or Prince's guitar schlong.

MaudlinMutantMollusk: I wonder how much the NFL made in free publicity?

Yeah, who would expect to hear about the Super Bowl on every TV station the next day were it not for that finger?

/the NFL should be fined for putting has-beens and never-weres on stage at halftime

If anyone needs to be fined, it's the idiots who are in charge of halftime entertainment. We got Bruno Mars coming up this SB, and I think the only reason we haven't had Bieber yet is due to divine providence.

Yeah, that's what I came to comment about. I don't know how it works since they brought it to an arbitration panel instead of court, but if this becomes a larger public battle it will be entertaining. I think M.I.A. is an idiot for doing it, but claiming wholesomeness and asking for 1.5M is ridiculous, unless there was a written contract in place.

/did she sign a contract promising not to do anything like that?

"Of course, the NFL's claimed reputation for wholesomeness is hilarious," King said, "in light of the weekly felonies committed by its stars, the bounties placed by coaches on opposing players, the homophobic and racist comments uttered by its players, the complete disregard for the health of players and the premature deaths that have resulted from same, and the raping of public entities ready to sacrifice public funds to attract teams."

I vote GWAR for SBHS.

She should probably have to pay any FCC fines (if any) and call it square.

That's an offer she would take; neither the FCC nor NBC gave a shiat.

I did not realize until I read this article that M.I.A. was a woman.

My response to reading the attorney comment can only be described as "gleeful cackle".  And yeah I still watch every Sunday.

I'm sure that after the Janet Jackson affair, the NFL has some pretty iron-clad contract clauses for behavior.  Eventually she'll settle or be forced to pay.

The way an arbitrator works is that whoever paid the arbitrator, wins.

Haha. Yeah, I figured that. I meant in terms of how public it would be.

Make room for me then.  Hell, I seem to be so isolated I wasn't even aware anyone had flipped the bird at the Super Bowl.

The halftime show isn't for football fans. Football fans are watching the game no matter who is playing in it, and no matter who is performing at halftime. The halftime show is to attract the people who might not otherwise watch the game.

The ideal resolution to this would be to have M.I.A and Goodell in the same building discussing a settlement, then the building lifts up like in "Up" and floats out over the ocean and we never hear from either of them again.

Normally I'd post here about how censorship is bad but I saw MIA in concert and I'll never get that time back.

actually they should fine the people manning the delay.  they and the public didnt catch it until the next day when the blogosphere decided to make it a thing.  the 100 million viewers never actually saw it during the game.

/manufactured outrage is big bucks

Artistic license. Yes, I'm aware I just referred to M.I.A. as an artiste
