My wife was working the social scene in north Philly back in 1974.  She was in a junior classroom that had a new history teacher, and he couldn't get the attention of the class.  So he grabs the head troublemaker, this large gang banger type dude, and throws him out the second story window.  No shiat.  Broke the kid's leg.  Somehow all the students swore the kid swung first.

The gangbanger settled right down after that, and his mother even thanked this teacher when the lousy farker actually graduated.

"alternative" school. As long as you show up occasionally and don't kill anyone, the state can't kick you out of public education until you earn a diploma or turn 21.

TFA says they are all 17, 18, and 19. I guess 19 is kinda a shame, but it's not as bad as the Korean student I knew who was in high school at age 25 or something, I assume she started after immigration.

Depends, if the 19 year old is a senior, no. A lot of kids whose birthday falls right after the cutoff are held back from starting school.  Now if the the 19 year old is a Junior or sophomore she should be in night school or GED not mixing it up with other students.

Good point. Some of the kids at the alternative high school in my old state came to school in a squad car every day.

And failure to attend is often a violation of probation/ parole terms.

So there they are.

I know a guy who blames the dumbing down of American Education on integration. Not only did it allow blacks in, but according to him it forced teachers to better accommodate idiots.

Personally I think it is equally the fault of the white middle class (and the pressures on them) who insist every child should go to college if they can get the money. It used to be that college was for smart people, not for anyone who graduated from HS.

Yeah that will help, people who dropped out because they didn't want to be there, now forced to go back after becoming criminals.

I knew somebody that did this in middle school. it was one of the administrators, a guy that most people disliked but still he didn't deserve it. this kid got him in the parking lot and broke both his knees with a baseball bat. don't know what happened to that kid but never saw him again after that.

I don't think it's just white middle class, all parents of every ethnicity want there kids to have a secondary education. I don't think that's a bad thing. The problem is that since education has become such a farkin money grab from kindergarten to collage, the powers that be have altered the system to allow for anyone to succeed. If A kid can't get an "A" in any given subject, they just set up a leveled tier system to make sure every farkin student can at least pass. Junior couldn't pull off an "A" in level one math,,, but, he got a "B" in level 4!!!!  Yay,,, for his self esteem!!! This way everyone passes those pesky requirements to further their education. This is especially helpful for those sports scholarships.

There has to be some sort of middle ground between the system we have and the system on that STTNG planet where they were going to execute Wesley Crusher for knocking a ball into the white fence area.

All six of these should be tried, then executed if convicted.  That's the only way to deal with them.  Nip it in the bud.

Try them as adults (they are) and jail for a minimum until they are 21, or more if that can be done.  No Juvenile detention, rather normal everyday prison.  Zero chance for any parole.

Fighting is something I'm sure most people did in school, and it's an extremely common occurrence in a prison lite "alternative school" in Detroit. However, the 15 y.o. and the shiatbag who attacked the security guard should be put down. There's no excuse for that, and behavior like that screams "I have shiatty parents who didn't do their job."

Also, IB4 parents comment with "Dey mah aaaangeeel, dey dun do dat! Dem officers be racissss yo!"

Attractive and successful drains on society. They won't ever amount to anything or contribute to the greater good. I will bet you that we, the taxpayers, are already taking care of them and will continue to do so for the rest if their lives.

Depressing.

freak7: Where's Zimmerman when you need him?

See I don't get this comment. The Zimmerman case was about self defense, not vigilantism. That point was repeated over and over again throughout most of the Zimmerman threads. And the defense in that case made a very compelling argument that George Zimmerman lawfully protected himself during an attack...he wasn't some Charles Bronson type from Death Wish.

And yet...every time there's a thread like this, I see some variation of your comment. Is George Zimmerman a guy who protected himself like any reasonable person would while being assaulted, or is he the last great hope to rid society of black people?

And please, spare me the 'Why Not Both?' jpeg.

No...19 is possible if the kid missed the December cutoff and started first grade at age 7. My youngest nephew will be 19 when he graduates high school (unless they skip him ahead). For other kids, IDEA allows them to stay until age 24 if they haven't completed a diploma or the equivalent by then.

Starting college at 19 is probably better than being the 17yo.
