They don't have any high school gyms in Seattle that can hold 500 fans?

Jokes on them, they're just missing out on all those good fundamentals.

The Seattle Sonics survived an entire season in the Tacoma Dome.

They should move the game to Sea-Tac airport, it would give them a bigger crowd.

I'm trying to put together 'abort' & women's sports into some sort of misogynistic joke, but it's not full term and probably boring.

/got nuthin'

I'm sure the Microsoft event will draw more people.

I honestly forgot the WNBA was a thing.  I just assumed it folded, like the XFL.

Playoffs?? they have been playing all this time? You'd think at least a few games would have made it to the tv screen.

I would just like to point out that the Tacoma Dome is the largest wooden domed arena in the world. The WNBA ought to be proud to play in such a remarkable building.

Wikipedia also tells me that the first concert ever held there was David Bowie, with The Tubes opening up for him. I'd be willing to bet that a Tubes concert held today would still manage to outdraw the WNBA playoffs.

/also, 'attack of the 50-foot woman' reference.

Saw Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers there about 10-12 years ago. Was a great show.

The punchline is that the Storms ownership are all Microsofties or former Microsofties.

I just don't get the WNBA.

I don't mind niche sports. Hell, I'll head down to the Pond and watch the Toledo Storm play, and that's a bunch of ex-college players and prospects with next to no chance to make it to the NHL. Fifteen bucks a ticket, about 2000 fans, and a good time.

The WNBA seems to almost be an answer to an unasked question, though. Sure, there are women's basketball fans, but those tend to follow the college teams.

Fundamentals and basketball skill is nice, but you can't just create a league and expect it to populate with fans from other areas of the sport. Detroit loves its sports, but even they couldn't support a three-time WNBA champion. Those who like women's sports already have allegiances, those who don't never will.

It just doesn't make sense.

Showed my age there- the Storm were renamed the Walleye a few years back. Grew up with the Storm, and still prefer that name.

Can we stop this meme? People try to say the WNBA has "fundamental" basketball, but no... games are EXTREMELY sloppy.

Should have moved the game to Oklahoma City.

Wait. Hold one. Whoa whoa whoa. Wood? That thing I burn to grill meat? In what alternative apocalyptic alternative hellscape of history did people make buildings out of wood? Go back to your nap, old man. Never happened.

I'm sure they can find a rec league gym that holds 250

'Abort, Retry, Fail?' was the phrase some wormdog scrawled next to the door of the Edit Universe project room. And when the new dataspinners started working, fabricating their worlds on the huge organic comp systems, we'd remind them: if you see this message, ALWAYS choose 'Retry.'

Actually the Superior Dome in Michigan is a larger wooden dome, though it doesn't seat as many people

I'm still trying to figure out why this city is nice enough to support David Stern's pet project. Instead of Tacoma, send them all the way to Tulsa.
