The only official response from the team came from Frank Jonet, the Packers secretary-treasurer. He eagerly confirmed that the Lodge was fully insured and estimated the initial losses to be at least $50,000 -- which just so happened to be almost the exact amount of the Packers' debt.

What does this have to do with Najeh Davenport?  He's not with the Packers any more

So Lambeau was such a huge dick that nobody liked, then they named the stadium for him years later?  I don't understand.

It would not surprise me at all. The reason the Packers weren't accepted into the fledgling NFL in it's first year was because they were being punished for hiring "ringers" from college ball to play for them. At the time, college football was the pinnacle of the sport and "pro" football was the bush leagues.

Subby, he coached the Chicago Cardinals; not the Bears. Like the article said, nobody shed too many tears when he shuffled off.

/I've heard about the fire and I'm not even a Packer fan.

Because he was a great coach who created the franchise.  They named it right after he died.  If they had waited five more years it would be Lombardi Field, I guess.

Lombardi wasn't happy about the field being named for Lambeau.

Some of the details were new to me, and I'm a pretty big-time Packers homer. Really good piece, regardless of 'team affiliation'...its the backstory of the league itself, that helped bring us to where we are today with the NFL.
