Yes, because Russians are so fundamentally different from Americans.

Well, if they're gay and apparently aren't discriminated against in Russia, they probably weren't going to have their own children anyway...

/what was the point again?

Everything Putin says, he says for political gain. Whether Putin actually believes this or not, is completely irrelevant. With him, it's all about: if a Russian typical voter reads this, then they'll think: Putin's an Ok guy.

Well, they both have a godlike ability to hold self contradictory ideas. For example, yesterday the rightwingers claimed that cutting food aid to millions of hungry Americans was good for them.

He's right about the whole Europeans dying out thing. Not because of the gays, but just in general.

I haven't heard anyone talk like he is a God only how he had emasculated our President. Which unfortunately was pretty much what happened. Our guy looked fumbling and giving mixed messages and seeming like they didn't know which way to go and like usual hoping for someone to take the lead.
That is obvious to even MSNBC and the Daily Show... When you start loosing your faithful things are pretty bad. But at least Obama is trying and letting others lead and he follows is considerably better than the idiots on the right that for the unpteenth time trying to get rid of Obamacare.. those idiots need to stop wasting our time and get over this foolish "Rightwing dream" and try and help run our gov and using the gov shut down like a little kid negotiating to stay up late to watch tv,,,Clowns all of them.

Gay marriage is a threat to the population because if they're banned from ever getting married they'll breed like rabbits, then?

Well okay then.  That clears that up.

No, but if someone is gay and does not "know" it, and culture says get married and have babies (and in fact pays you to do so, IIRC re: Russia's pro-kids policies), a gay could get married and have babies.  Sure, he'll snap at the age of 40 and become a raging alcoholic, but he's Russian and he's already a raving alcoholic.  Maybe snapping in Russia is going cold turkey?

Regardless of his motivations, he achieved a great thing with regards to Syria. It is far better then that his actions may have saved many lives and prevented a global war for the `wrong` reasons than not at all and since most world leaders seem preoccupied with greed and political gain, it is best to just be happy if the end result of these motivations creates peace.

From the last Putin thread in the Politics Tab...

As an ethnically Russian guy living currently in Russia, in Kirov, I can assure you, that you are insanely delusional if you think that Putin's reelection will cause any discontent in Russia whatsoever.

He _really_ was democratically elected. There was absolutely no need for any fraud. The majority of people in Russia - you know them well - conservative, older but more politically active, low-educated, low-informed, watching only the equivalent of Fox News - truly want Putin to be their president.

Their only problem with Putin is that Putin is too liberal for their tastes. For example, the majority of people in Russia (all non-liberals) are considering homosexuals to be a sick perversion that has to be eradicated from the face of mother Russia. Or at least to be forced to hide so deep in the closet that no one will ever hear about them.

In fact, I think that Putin is the most liberal leader who has a snowball in hell chance to be elected in honest elections in Russia. Simply because the majority of Russian people blame them liberals for all their ills. Well, liberals and George Soros.

Yes, better educated people with more cosmopolitan views have different opinion. But in Russia, "cosmopolitan" is pretty much synonimous with "traitor who would be put to the wall when right people will finally come to power". Right together with "liberasts" - that's a slur combining "liberals" and "homosexualists" in one word. Desire for "hard hand" to rule Russia is huge amongst common people.

But just imagine how badly James Holmes' feelings are hurt when he sees random people on the internet calling him Sideshow Bob. It totally brings back all those people he murdered. Soon Putin will be so distraught, he'll break up the Soviet Union and end the Cold War.

Putin made the comment at a conference of Russia experts in Valdai in northwestern Russia. He also made a joking reference to his friend, former Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi, who was convicted in June of paying for sex with a minor and pressuring public officials to cover it up.
"Berlusconi has faced a trial for living with women. They (prosecutors) wouldn't touch him if he were gay," Putin said

I think I see the cause for all those "meanwhile, in Russia" moments.  They're deeply closeted gays who have snapped and just don't give a fark about their own lives any more.  (I doubt alcoholism has anything to do with it; at that point they've probably drunk so much vodak on a daily basis that their bodies basically contain liver-flavoured Jell-O shooters.)

The push to "Do something" about Putin remains amazing to me as an Iraq vet how little Americans learned from that war. We removed Saddam, because freedom or something and what lay underneath was a web of sectarian violence that exploded in our faces.
