Shootings in Chicago? Must be a day ending in a Y.

Also: gangs.

The FBI does not use the term "Murder Capital".

Repeat from main page. And Chicago isn't anywhere CLOSE to the murder capital. Murder capital is determined by per capita murder rate, and Chicago ranked 40th. Camden, NJ thinks your blog sucks.

Come hang out in New Orleans. Higher per capita rate. That place has gotten pretty damn scary, and I lived there when it was really bad during the crack thing in the 80's. I know it's all in the part of town you go into, but even that's no guarantee.

The boy's 22-year-old Julian Harris said that men...  The boy had a 22-year-old? Must've gotten busy in a past life.

Before going to the hospital with her family to be with the boy, she went off on the police, yelling, "You.... Cops can't solve s---!" Mighty fine writing there, Scott Paulson.

Probably. It all blurs together. And there's something going down near the Mardi Gras parade routes on a regular basis. The parades snake through town, and some parts (like on St Charles uptown) are usually more families with kids, but there have been incidents there in the last couple of years.

This also includes shootings where there were multiple people wounded, but they survived, which are not in these numbers.

Of course it's the fault of Liberals.  Liberals are all Atheists and therefore have no morals and no sense of right and wrong.  Life means nothing to a Liberal.  You only need to look at abortion, the highest sacrament of the Liberal church, and the breathlessness with which they defend this crime against humanity.  Murder is peanuts in a Liberal-infested hellhole like Chicago.

No need.  Like Detroit, the immediate suburbs are very safe.  It's only the economically depressed, poorly educated, urban areas that have these occurrences.  Oddly enough it's like that in all major cities.  If only there was a way to correlate the underlying causes.

And if given the opportunity, how many of the residents would move out of that area if they could find a job they could get to, and put their kids in a better school, while living in housing they could afford.

Completely agreed.  Taking away our rights is there main focus.  But they will lose this fight and everyone will be armed and polite.  It still worries me though.  They will use guns then to take away our rights then.  For example, i wouldn't be surprised if they introduced a bill to make it legal to shoot smokers in self defense of second hand smoke to children.

Funny how in major cities like New York, San Diego, Las Vegas, San Antonio, Los Angeles, and Phoenix, they've managed to keep the murder rate at *half* of Chicago's, in the case of New York it is under 1/3!

I am no fan of NYC but Rudy 9/11 and Bloomberg have turned it into a decent place to live.

I suspect something else is at play other than just being a major city, especially as only New Orleans even comes close to "major" of the top ten cities in the list posted above.

This is a direct consequence of the overturning of the entirely reasonable prohibition upon civilian handgun ownership in the city. Prior to that ruling, the city's homicide rate was much lower; I can only imagine how the rate would worsen further if the city's assault weapons ban were not in place.
