It would be nice if we could use this opportunity to thaw relations with Iran, as it would relieve a lot of tension. Plus if Obama does it it would severely chap the asses of just the right people.

Iago is having none of it.

Obama opening direct talks with Iran would be the perfect massive public fark you to this asshole for meddling in our elections.

I thought things were getting better with Iran around 2000-2001.  Then that 'Axis of Evil' speech happened.

The GOP are a bigger threat to the US than Iran.

So, based on this conciliatory tone from the new Iranian President, Lindsey Graham will seek a use of force authorization.

Could you be any more in the pocket of the Israeli lobby Lindsey?

The GOP/Teabaggers are actively trying to dismantle the Federal Government, destroy our credit rating, have the most ridiculous (and largely discredited) economic goals one could have...

Iran just wants us to stop being assholes.

Gee, which one would I rather talk to?

It will make for some funny fark threads once John Kerry shows up at the talks.

Remember when they had a liberal government then we crushed them at the behest of our oil companies, which in turn radicalized opposition culminating in a violent coup carried out by religious hardliners? That was fun.

Remember when the US and the Soviet Union were going head-to-head in every corner of the globe and the election of Mossadegh created the real possibility of Iran entering the Soviet orbit, denying critical resources to the West and directing them to the East at a moment when thermonuclear global war was a real possibility? That was fun.

In hindsight it sure is easy to feel morally superior to American and British cold warriors staring into the abyss and making decisions that could result in the overthrow of the free world. Personally, I enjoy speaking English. Russian is a tough language. Glad I don't have to speak it.

Hey, the Iranian leadership derives much of its power from the threat of an evil America messing with their society (again). If they are willing to tone down the rhetoric and play nice, we should at least talk to them. It really is our fault that Iran is the way it is.

You have a really odd take on history. There was never any chance that the Soviets would find themselves in such a position.

The Iranians actually have an unelected political office called "Supreme Leader." Tell me again about their wonderful democracy. Then go get moose and squirrel.

And that is why it was ok to feed radioactive cereal to retarded children.

Mr. Kerry... we would like to continue on with our nuclear program unfettered by stupid Western economic sactions in place today.    In light of you recent fustercluck negotiations in Syria...why don't you just remove those sanctions before we embarass the crap out of you and your country.   Signed, Iran

2013-09-20 10:21:00 AM
Iran really does want to come back and become good international neighbors

Iran's nuclear program is the result of extreme distrust

The US is responsible for much of Iranian FA extremism

Remember "Goodwill begets goodwill"? We farked them over after they got our hostages released.

The thing is is that Iran does not want to be treated like a biatch. They want a seat at the table and be treated as equals

cman: The US is responsible for much of Iranian FA extremism

And it's important to note that the man-on-the-street in Iran is generally well-disposed to the US. Iran has the same sort of Red-State/Blue-State dichotomy the US has, with xenophobic, religiously conservative, rural regions and cosmopolitan, progressive, urban regions. And since the urban regions tend to be where the wealth is, they also tend to be the places where political power concentrates. A few goodwill overtures would go a long way.

Also, Iranian metal bands are pretty farking hardcore.

So long as we can help the Islamacist hard liners destroy the rights of women and the middle classes - in Iran or where ever - and they help us back -- we've got a great scam going.

I hope we normalize relations with Iran in my lifetime, but then again, I've felt that way about Cuba too.  It'd be a real coup for Obama & Co. to have not one but two "Nixon in China" moments, one in La Habana and one in Tehran.

One need only read articles about politics and the comments that go with them to see we've become a country of jerks doing jerkish things all over all the time.

It's not the first time a leader from a country often at odds with the United States has used its newspapers to convey his or her views. Just last week, for instance, Russian President Vladimir Putin

Speaking of - was there not a thread on McCain's response in Pravda? I thought Fark would have loved that.

Okay, just as soon as you Iran stop planning "DEATH TO ISREAL!", funding terrorist organizations, and screwing with Iraq.

Will be nice to see Iran's nuclear power plant come online.
They would never build 80 nuclear mid range missiles and have fuel to create 200-300 more while the World ignores the weapons existence.
Israel is bad for the Middle East.

/People biatch about Hitler, yet Israel continues his legacy of purity of the breed and wiping out those who stand in the way of land expansion.
//Hey, the truth hurts, so whargarbleyourballs, ok.
///Any U.S. politician who has sworn allegiance to Israel needs to be prosecuted for treason.

Any deal with Iran will require recognition of Israel and stopping funding of terrorism.

Those two are nonnegotiable and Iran knows this

They will continue on doing what they are doing until they are welcomed back into the world community
