I think it's funny.
There's a high school where I live that has the Firebird as a mascot.  There were a whole lot of jokes made at their expense about that.

Spirit t-shirts are supposed to teach lessons?  The only thing my high school's spirit t-shirts taught me was bad cartooning and to hunt eagles into extinction.

Best. Eggs. Evar.

I think the shirt is supposed to teach you to lighten up a little.  No one is hurt by implied foul language.

I'm going with how to have a sense of humor and not be offended by everything you see.

I don't understand why parents are still getting bent out of shape over stuff like this.  Are your kids on the internet?  Yes?  Good, then they know much worse things that 'wtf'.

Was it we're the Falcons? Or We Are the falcons?

I think it makes a difference.

Why The Fuss?

My parents were tolerant of our language use - as long as it wasn't gratuitous.  Example: saying "shiat" when you dropped a jug of milk on the floor was totally within context and as long as within the home, (and not in front of guests) it was overlooked.  You could even say "f*uck" if you stubbed your toe badly.

What I learned the hard way was saying "Jesus!" when startled, will get you a smack upside the head.  Learned that lesson on the first try.

My parents would have snickered at the WTF t-shirt.

When I was in high school marching band, seniors got to wear shirts that said on them "SOB"---short for "Senior of Band". No one made a stink about it whatsoever and that was back in the 80's.

Ha I like it. "Oh noes! We made a funny shirt based on a popular shorthand phrase that is actually getting highschoolers excited about spirit week and giving us money to support our programs. Oh the humanity!"

William Terrence Patterson?
Walter Theodore Parker?
Warren Timothy Peterson?
Waldo Thaddeus Prince?

Am I close?

As an interesting aside - I learned that "Waldo" means "ruler".  Probably not the kind with inches and centimetres prined on them.

Someone needs to tell Terra Lopez that getting mad over harmless things all the time will ultimately cause more problems than it solves.  In fact, lets put in succinctly on a shirt for her.

Continual Umbrage, Needless Trouble

I expected some kind of falcon punch reference for some reason. That would have been way funnier.

This is juvenile and honestly not all that funny to me. I can see how some parents would overreact because people are hypersensitive idiots these days. If the school was being smarter they probably would have decided against just to keep the flying shiat to a minimum. Meh, whatever.

I know! I get a kick when I train new employees in one slideshow bout shovelling something beginning with the letter S and a four-letter word, but isn't snow... Pause, and say it's sand, and jab about how perverted they are. Good times.

dennysgod:

FU is also Furman University who have the "paladin" as a mascot.

One great piece of urban legend is that they used to be Furman University Christian Knights fark but changed to Paladins at later date.

... unfortunately its not true... but doesn't stop everyone associated with the school from spreading the rumour.
