"Living Forever" is a cool thing for the concept of some 1 lucky(?) person, or a few.   For a species, as the article kind of alludes to, it is something that falls apart really fast ("fast" in the scope of earth's timeline, not necessarily an existing human life's timeline).

For starters... one assumes that people wanting to live "forever" (or, even just much, much longer... if we got to 200-300 year lifespans, that would probably start to feel like forever anyway), don't want to live their entire lives past 80 like someone who "looks" 80 right now.   The "dream" of living forever generally has to do more with living like you look when you are 30 "forever".   Whether that is part of the ability to "live forever" though remains to be seen.

Also, as stated, if people on a mass scale start living "forever", then, you have to start mass sterilization techniques, as the old folks won't be dying off.   And at what "age" do you want to live forever?   And generally, people wanting to live forever, you don't want to really "live forever", it is generally more than you want some sort of "Groundhog Day" type of situation, where you get to live in your "moment" forever, and you don't get older, but, neither does anyone around you.... or living like you are in the Simpsons, when you never get older, but, neither do your kids.

There are a lot of things human's are modifying in nature... messing with the concept of "natural time" might be the most earthshaking of all of them.
