The charitable add-on costs $9.99 (80 percent of purchase proceeds go to Red Cross programs in 10 countries) and enables city builders to place a Red Cross relief center, tents, and vehicles in their town when needed.

80% of proceeds? Is that gross or net, EA?

/Just donate $10 to Red Cross and bypass the crappy middle man

The DLC adds a feature where Red Cross relief workers come in to your city after you get bored with it or realize that your city's financial state makes Detroit look flush and there's no way you can reverse that, so you decide to have about 10 earthquakes, 7 tornadoes, and 3 Godzilla attacks on it.

But I wasn't done thanking EA for embedding advertising in the load screens of my favorite sports titles!

Of which, 80% will then go to Red Cross execs and overhead, 19% will go into advertising and developing new gimmicks to increase donations and the remaining 1% will be attributed to a rounding error and funneled into the company expense account.

$10 for a single building that only works for brief disaster scenarios? Way to sell the value of your DLC system, assholes. Have they got around to DLC to fix the city size or economy yet?

But, if you buy it, you are giving money to the Red Cross*, you don't hate the Red Cross do you?

*also possibly an EA tax write off

I already donate on a recurring basis without having to accept any shiatty, ad-laden, buggy, ass-to-mouth software in return and they get more than 80% of the donation.

Only 80% goes to the Red Cross? What PR inept moron came up with that one?

A-yup.

*You* aren't giving money to the Red Cross.  You are not making a charitable donation.  You are purchasing a product.

EA is making a charitable donation, which means they get to report revenue from sales, and write-off the donations for tax purposes.  It's like getting paid twice.

Just give the money directly if that's your goal.  EA's scamming the system.

I know it's the in thing to do to hate EA, but this is going to charity and I think you'd be surprised that 80% is a much higher percentage than a lot of 'charity drives' give to charities.

Gamers will get mad about anything, even when it goes to charity, hilarious and sad at the same time.

Bullshiat. There's a tried-and-true way to get 100% of your donation into the hands of your favorite charity, and it's not putting money in the hands of a rent-seeking corporation.

80% Really? 20% brokers cut? gtfo.  My charity was buying that stupid simcity game like a punk.

Surprisingly I liked this game, but as the subby nailed it; if I can't fix traffic I don't want to play anymore.

I used to like Simcity, but frankly you gotta be kidding me... I know DLC has been popular over the years now, but this is a new DOWNLOW for anyone.

EA can kiss my ass.  After that SimCity debacle, I'm not going to give them another penny.

Fark EA and the carcasses of once great franchises they ride into the ground.

Does it make the game actually work?

Who the fark still uses Origin?
