It's a condition similar to Phantom Lat Syndrom that you see in guys at the gym where they walk around with their arms out as if their muscles are so huge they can't even fit through a doorway or wipe their own ass.

Game of Thrones' Richard Madden blasted for taking up too much room on the Tube

Come to New York and make that complaint in person to just about every black guy on the train, see how far that gets you.

I understand being annoyed at folks who get right in your personal space when you're on public transportation, but I don't think I'd suggest castrating them. (Also, I think she needs to be told about the difference between castration and penis-removal. I'm not doing it - she goes to either option WAY too quick for me to be willing to make her angry.)

Larry Craig is not amused.   Also, I see no offence there.  When you have your spine pressed against the curvature of the train and some drunk homeless persons ass grinding into your crotch because the tube is so packed you can barely breathe...then you can talk to me about an asshat taking up too much space on a bench.  From that picture, it looks like its not that busy and the guy standing is traveling in relative comfort.  Some people prefer to stand on the tube, especially if its a short route.

Prince Phillip once caused a furore by calling the Daily Express a 'bloody awful newspaper'.

I disagree - it has never shown any sign of being an actual newspaper.

How do people find the energy to care about these things?

The only thing I have to say about this photo is that I'm surprised this guy has to ride the train; he was on one of the most popular TV shows in the world. And that it's already old by internet standards

Beware America, this is what you are becoming.  A nanny government and a populace who's only interest is celebrities.  It's probably too late to do anything about it so might as well get your subscription to People and The National Enquirer today.

Because they spend hours every day rammed up against loads of other (frequently sweaty or otherwise unpleasant to be near) people every day of the week, so etiquette in such situations becomes very important and strained, especially given the British quirk that you can't actually tell someone they are doing something wrong, you can only give them loaded looks and then moan about it at home (or on a newspaper website, or facebook, or twitter, or whatever).

Not true.  The 7000+ seats they added this off season are all actual seats (my parents got their season tickets upgraded to that section).  Plus, even in the bleacher section I never minded it.  It probably actually helps keep everyone warmer in the winter as they're all squeezed together, but that does mean you have to stand as a group.
