I read that the FDA is planning to issue their e-cig regulations next month, so I guess the companies are getting airtime while the getting is good. The only reason they've managed to avoid falling under tobacco regulation this long was that the FDA wanted to classify them as drug delivery devices and the courts said that no, they could only be regulated the same as tobacco.

"I don't think that it's their finest marketing hour," said Peter Hamm, of the Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids.

The only reason they did that was because the argument was since the nicotine came from a natural source and wasn't synthesized it is a tobacco product.

Which makes no farking sense at all

I find it hilarious that she smokes, "natural health" guru that she pretends she is.

Still no cure for autism.

They really are so pathetic that they might as well be anti-e-cig commercials. Seriously they are channel-change-cringe-inducing. "Mah fuvrit cloob". You're like what? 40? And trying to maintain this party-girl image?

in the UK, those e-cigs have more nicotine than manufacturers are allowed to put in regular cigarettes

so while you're not inhaling tar, they're sure as hell going to keep you hooked

it seems... a little cynical to me, but then I guess that's capitalism

As hopelessly misguided as she may or may not have been over her son's condition, I'm not sure what the issue here is. Good for her.

I mean, forget about the lack of scientific merit of her vaccine=autism nonsense.  This display alone should completely invalidate the last 15 years of her life.

It's sort of hard to tell how to compare them though, as you get many more drags out of an e-cig cartridge, and you can pick them up and put them down as you wish. How much nicotine is being delivered over a period of time is not as easy to gauge.

That said, you may be right, I know a couple of people pretty much hooked on them.

I used e-cigs to quit a few years back but I didn't use anything with nicotine. Replacing the habit was enough.

So does my mom, I think?  At least, according to her not backing down from her "vaccines are good but they're very bad too and might kill you" reasoning.  I tried science, facts, and statistics but nobody got time fo dat.

Oh, I'm not saying that smoking while pregnant causes autism.  Although it's not an outrageous proposition given that we know it can lead to birth defects.

My point is the same as  namegoeshere's.

But from what little I've read about autism, there is some evidence that higher exposure to toxins and chemicals may be a contributing factor.  Therapies based on clean, healthy diets and exercise show some promise.

No I just think someone's opinion on something isn't necessarily relevant with regards to their opinion on something else. I had a quick look into the autism thing and was a little shocked by her views, but I don't necessarily think it means she isn't capable of having an informed and valid viewpoint on smoking or e-cigs ;)

My nephew has made leaps and bounds of progress with bio-med treatments both diet and supplements and an autism school when he was younger.  He has a mild case but he's in normal school now.  He used to be non-verbal.  There's definitely something going on but it's not vaccines, or at least doesn't appear to be.

If it was, say, e cigs and skin care, or e cigs and kitchen appliances, two totally unrelated things, I might see your point. But the fact that her idiocy has put a generation at risk of death from preventable illnesses has made her completely ineligible to voice an opinion on anything health related.

It's just flavoring (which is often whats in food products), propylene glycol or vegetable glycol, and nicotine.

It would be interesting to have some information on people who have been using the patch (or nicorette) for 10-20 years without smoking, just to see what the effects of nicotine (apart from the rest of a cigarette) are.  If they're minimal.. then awesome! Puff away!

/I think I heard somewhere that nicotine is on par with caffeine with regards to health effects.  Still can't understand why there is so much hate for people finding a healthier alternative to get their fix.

So she admits to smoking -- a known, massive health risk -- and gets all worked up about vaccines -- which, even if she was correct (and she isn't; the evidence has been in for years) would be a much lesser risk.

This woman is an oxygen thief.

She's stealing oxygen that some deserving microbe could be using.

As for the whole autism thing... I'm going to go ahead and call this now: plastic. It's going to end up being the ubiquitous and inescapable presence of plastic in our lives.

But then, how many average people are clued up enough with the news that they will have even heard her ridiculous autism claims? Sure everyone here has but this is a news discussion site so that's expected. For the very many uninformed, it's simply a big name celebrity promoting a very positive product and that alone should shift units and maybe save some lives. Which is a good thing, no?

I go to the amusement parks here alot.  E-thingies are HUGE at the parks now that they have designated smoking areas.  I think that would be a huge selling point for e-smoking stuff.
