Good story...but B.S.

2013-09-18 07:10:55 PM
Well he is a pastor. How else are you suppose to treat them?

Not even a good story, still B.S.

Because they introduce him and yet they don't even know if he's in the building, nobody has seen him. Nobody would do that thinking, "Oh, I'm sure he's here somewhere".

Instead they would be apologizing because they were going to introduce him but they don't know where he is because he didn't show up.

Or maybe those doing the introduction knew he was in the building, and were even aware of what he had planned.

Look up the name on Snopes. The story has been around since 1800's. The photo is not the guy. etc..etc.

The article says the church elders, who called him to the altar, were in on the ruse.

Lack of details is the first clue. 10,000 members? Which church? Where?

It seems their compassion is as imaginary as their invisible sky being.

That's the problem with the homeless, if you take them in, they'll lose their only adjective and have to live the rest of their lives as generic non-descriptive human beings.

Did subby even check the comments on Reddit this afternoon calling this out as an urban legend before submitting it?

Thought not.

Lots of churches in the south.
In bang-up brand new modern arena-type digs, too.
Get out more and see something.

HotIgneous Intruder: It seems their compassion is as imaginary as their invisible sky being.

Were you expecting genuine compassion from those who intentionally disregard reason and mercy and might on the off-chance that some cloud sitter might be judging the for acting like anything but willing (and dangerous) morons?

Do people have an aversion to going on Snopes and copy/pasting a name or phase from a chain email?
Sure I'd LIKE to believe this happened but the facts say Nope.

BUT IT COULD HAPPEN...right.

I didn't read that far, if that was the case it should have said so instead of being obviously manipulative. My bullshiat meter pegged and I closed the page.

The ONLY thing that comes up for this Pastor is the story and nothing else. Zippo.

Although this is false, I'm assuming that would be the response directed towards a homeless person at any location...probably a bit worse with cops being called eventually.

Thank God that story's fake - I can keep hating the homeless!

Well, just like those Obama is a secret Muslim tales, I'm gonna go with it's probably true because if somebody really did it that's would would happen because we all know those people are just awful.

It reminded me of Mark Twain's "The War Prayer".

I don't care that it's fake; the message is still good.

Only a mega-church would have 10,000 attendants. You don't get 10,000 attendants by calling out your congregation's shortcomings and humiliating them with their sins.

Neat fairy tale, though.

Matthew 19:14 "Let the little tards come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these."

Do they not build the Kingdom of Heaven in their own minds? In a way, do they not already live there? If so, how are they not like the Pharisees who preach on the streets (as stated in the New Testament)? Do they not already have their rewards?

Pride-Tards. That is what they are. They sing loudly "O Lord it's hard to be humble" to a gospel melody.

/I do have to admit that that "humble" part is a bit of a motherfudger

I should try it. With very little effort I could pass for homeless. I'd just have to park far enough away that nobody would see my car.

In fact, I could do it for a year without telling anyone of the churches I wasn't really homeless before publishing a book.

I see only 2 problems with that.

1; I'd have to go to church
2: I could not bring myself for change to buy food when I don't need the charity.

Maybe I'll try it once and not ask for any money. Maybe I'll even put a dollar in the offering plate. There's a church near me that just bought the only strip club in town and is planning to turn it into a 2nd location.

True story (my mom's story):

When she was young, she attended church religiously (heh), but mostly because that's the way she was raised and because her parents always went (I won't get into them right now).

Anyway, I was talking to my mom about historical vs "mythical" bible, my own beliefs, etc, when she told me why she feels much the way Gandhi does in the above quote.

According to her, one Sunday the preacher (priest, whatever)'s brother came into the church, drunk off his ass and causing a minor disturbance. The preacher attempted to escort him to the door, then tried to muscle him toward the door and, finding resistance, one-punched him to the floor.

Godscrack: "....7-10,000 people in church" - Riiight.

While the story is a myth, you'd be surprised at the size of churches in Texas. A single church, the size of an entire mall. Parking lot filled. And there's another one, just like it, only a few miles down the highway...
