serpent_sky: DocTravesty: All those photos... it's the kind of evidence you'd expect to find in a movie or something.  I mean, it seriously looks like he was framed by a B-move director or something.  Castrating tools, murder dungeon, butchery set...

... and then the last photo is of a router and a bottle of Clorox.

And the thing that gets me about this story? Why is it such a big deal that he had a lot of chicken?  Out of the list of everything he's done, or would have liked to/planned to do, buying a bunch of chicken seems pretty insignificant. But they always mention the chicken.

The chicken shown is not your typical store bought and bled chicken, its actually a bit gamey looking, reddish.

I'm thinking those are a result of various practice runs.

Cagey B: SuperNinjaToad: Do you feel comfortable him being your neighbor?

There's this dude in my neighborhood who never seems to do anything but lurk in his front yard and smoke all day. He gives me the willies. Clearly he should be imprisoned for making me uncomfortable.

We have a guy like that but I also see random homeless people from around the neighborhood coming and going from his house whenever I walk the dog past midnight.  Otherwise it is totally boarded up and the lights are rarely on, but I'm sure is there.  He also has this creepy side apartment that is boarded up on his house.  The worst part is that the guy himself looks relatively normal and says hi to everyone in a non creepy manner, which makes me think of every time someone goes "he was such a regular guy but mostly kept to himself..."

GanjSmokr: SuperNinjaToad: GanjSmokr: SuperNinjaToad: GanjSmokr: James!: Did he eat a child?

Exactly.  Are we being punished for things we want to do but haven't actually done?

/to be clear, I'm officially against killing and eating children.

Do you feel comfortable him being your neighbor?

If I didn't know about his thoughts to kill and eat children and his penchant for child porn?  Sure.

If I did know about those things, I'd probably turn him in though.

It was more than just thoughts.. dude had massive collection of child porn and cannibalistic type reading materials. Also had the infrastructure built i.e dungeon etc.

Again, I'm perfectly fine with him being jailed for possession of the child porn.  I would not be OK with jailing him for thinking about something and not acting on it.  Were any of the items/infrastructure (other than the child porn) illegal?

Should people be jailed for thinking about murder or rape?  What if I have a ball gag and handcuffs in my dresser drawer?  Obvious rape tools or just a fun Saturday night?

/not saying I think about murder or rape
//nor am I saying that I have a ball gag and handcuffs in my dresser drawer

No, people shouldn't  be jail for just 'thinking' about rape however if one is fairly certain an individual is like a hair away from actually committing some unspeakeble crime like raping and eating children and have undeniable proof of preparation, intent etc.. WTF is the person or even cops suppose to do? just walk away?

You know, I'm more worried about people who defend others who have demonstrated means and motive, opportunity, and open drive towards murdering and eating children, and who have set up a sophisticated network of obtaining victims for this with others as being persecuted for "thought crimes".

I think you could impale Phillip K. Dick in his coffin, wrap some electrical wire around him, and use the rotations of his corpse to power a small town.

Bisu: I read that as "kill and eat chicken" and was wondering what the big deal was about.

Maybe not to you.

I am going with "Most people will assume the prison population will make sure he doesn't ever leave prison alive".

And I am satisfied with that.

Not likely. CP perpetrators and kiddie diddlers get protective custody treatment.

Which means he'll be locked in a cell for 23 hours a day, yard time in a 10 x 10 chain link fence and get a shower 2 or 3 times a week.

So yeah, I stand by your assessment for different reasons, I...am ok with this

Kill him with fire. Burn him with beautiful, holy, cleansing flame and fill his last moments on this earth with a taste of the eternal damnation to come. Char his skin and let his fat fuel the delightful inferno, his flesh sputtering as he writhes in agony, and finally all that is left is ash and flame. Wonderful, wonderful flame. It dances and flickers as it consumes all. It's just so goddamn beautiful.

Uhhh, what were we talking about?

xanadian: Geoffrey Portway, 40, was also ordered to pay $3,000 in restitution to five children whose images were found in online chats by Portway, according to court documents. Portway, a citizen of the United Kingdom

Well, there you go.  EVERYBODY knows that the British suck when it comes to cuisine...

THAT was funny.

maddogdelta: I don't think this will be something to worry about if he gets put into general population

Pretty much this.

The headline should read "He may get out if he lives long enough to make his first parole hearing."

If he survives prison, he'll go straight into a mental hospital after he's released.  He will never leave.

Two other men who chatted with Portway have already been convicted. One was a puppeteer who, authorities said, plotted with Portway to kidnap children the puppeteer knew from his work at a Florida church.

Gaaaah. You couldn't sell a novel with a character like that, but this guy exists. I hope none of these guys ever leave until they're in a pine box.
