Whoa, glad the BBC is on top of this. Some Hawaiian girls name is missing a letter because its 36 f'ing characters long and the system can only handle 35.

While I see the legal reason this has to be done, I still think she's the type of person who kept the name to be an AW.  She sounds like every other sixty-year-old flower child turned nonconformist.

Her name translates to "Main lander who desires a lot of attention to her pretend heritage"

Meanwhile you got some guy from Singapore with the last name of Ng, whose name is too short for some systems.

Ah yes. Mrs. Fragrant pink flower whose petals bloom in the bushy valley when the winds of kānaka blow across the mountain tops.

And here I thought people following, oh, the usual Southeastern First Nations methods of naming broke systems (namely, traditionally the guy takes the woman's last name and clan inheritance).

Not entirely used to a last name that also pretty much lists the entire primogeniture, but it's kind of a neat concept...probably isn't too kind to computers, though :D

/then again, not shocked the computers had issues with this
//it's a serious crap-shoot whether computer systems can handle hyphenated last names, and this includes GOVERNMENT computer systems
