Guessing, the NFL's lawyers told them they had to do this because of the ongoing concussion suits.

/But no, I can't tell you why.

Di Atribe: A MUCH better picture would've been this one where Aaron Rodgers is wearing a helmet that may actually be what the NFL is talking about.

Rodgers has always worn the older style Riddle helmet.

I always just assumed they just painted the helmets to match the throwbacks.  I was not aware they used different helmets.  I mean they paint, buff, and replace the logos every week, it's not a stretch to assume they could do it with a different base color.

At least the Raiders aren't affected by all the throwback crap.

I see. And he's ok, right? I mean, he is the... *counts on fingers*..... um.... best QB in the league. So what's the problem? I don't get it.

Me, either. I think what someone said upthread may have explained it: The NFL has to say it to cover their flaming bums.

Well, they had white helmets with the logo before they went to the silver, but... yeah, pretty much the same.

Related: The Chargers can get by with affixing/removing labels with jersey numbers on the helmets for the throwback look.

Actually, he switched helmets a couple of years ago after the concussion he had in Detroit, the one that led to Matt Flynn's first start (against New England). Says the new one has prevented a couple of concussions (dunno how it'd be possible to verify that claim)...so why not make wearing that style of helmet mandatory, kinda like the NHL eventually made helmets mandatory in general?
