I wish the Federal government would call their bluff and just start defunding states. F*ck these people.

Meh at the end of the day the President has the power to take control of the Guard. It is not really even an issue.

Brilliant! There's no prejudice at all in that post. Well done.

As a former resident of Oklahoma, the state will basically just do stupid shiat like this and wait for someone to challenge them in court.

2013-09-17 06:58:33 PM
But they'll come begging for that sweet, sweet Federal money after the tornadoes

I don't get the anger or the energy used to actively try to stop benefits. Even if you are not keen on gay marriage, who cares? How is is hurting him any? If someone is willing to fight for this crooked and dishonest government, more power to them. Damn right their spouses deserve equal benefits. If you're going to put their lives in danger for our military industrial complex, the least you can do is give them a few crumbs.

This is actually a good thing. The more governors and judges who do this shiat, the faster it'll go before the high courts again, and those courts will eventually drive it into people's heads that denial of marriage inequality is indefensible.

Her. Oklahoma's governor is a female. Because it's a progressive state, not one run by Fox News-loving fundy idiots.

I'm surprised my state hasn't joined this list.  Our current governor is trying every he can to drag Indiana back to the 20th century. (19th even.)

It's all in places that devote almost no money to public schooling.  Is it any surprise they churn out morons by the boatload?

i can tell what the Issue with Mississippi is on this case

for some insane reason added to our state constitutions that "Marriage is only between 1 man and 1 woman"

to get around it, the Miltary put out the word to make sure you summit your paper work to Federal Offices and not State offices

Unless that is what her man tells her to do.

I wish these people who take the bible as gospel should take the view point of What Would Jesus Do. I have a feeling it would be quite different than the way they are being treated by his "followers."

OK, the bible says to not be gay? - then don't be gay.
You are against gay marriage? - then don't marry a gay

Im sure conservatives in her state are outraged at this silly waste of time and effort. Not to mention how much this screams of hatin the troops.

gnosis301: Fark my state and fark Bobby Jindal

Please, this is the Internet and there are conservatives here. If you're going to write Jindal's name, we must follow the official conservative writing style. Now, using the standard BHO template, Gov Jindal should be written as follows:

"Bobby" PIYUSH Jindal

Now, note the quotes and the name in all caps. It's very important that any name that isn't considered American enough must be written in all caps. This must immediately be followed by the conservative cry of 'WHAR BIRTH CERTIFICATE?! WHAR?!!?'.

I'll let this one slide, but stop being so insensitive to the needs of the conservative movement in the future.

2013-09-17 07:27:30 PM
She should be personally charged for all the money her orders cost the tax payer.

The_Philosopher_King: OK, the bible says to not be gay? - then don't be gay.

Besides the painfully obvious bigotry, I think it's the sheer arrogance of these folks to assume every citizen subscribes to their particular religious dogma, and the laws of the nation should be altered to comply with that dogma.

Just petulant bigotry. Mary's got a rep for having been under state troopers more times than Cooter was under the General Lee. She's a farking idiot, and should save her marriage expertise for her farked-up daughter.

After processing applications on Sept. 3, as directed by the Defense Department, the Oklahoma National Guard is now not processing applications. That's also the case in Texas, Mississippi and Louisiana, where governors say state prohibitions against same-sex marriage trump a Pentagon order driven by a U.S. Supreme Court decision

Didn't that Supreme Court decision say that denying these benefits violates the equal protection clause of the bill of rights? That seems like a glaring problem for their logic.

These xenophobic types have always been here.  They used to complain about the Irish, etc the way modern xenophobes complain about "Mexicans" while grouping everyone from Guatamala to Mexico to Puerto Rico in the group "Mexican".
These are the people you hear saying things like "This is America, Speak American" and other assorted gems.

Omahawg: states ignoring the dictates of the federal government?

someone go dig up general william tecumseh sherman and we'll do it right this time.

Old joke:

"A friend of a friend of mine from New Jersey was caught speeding (80 mph) through Georgia. A state trooper pulled him over. Noticing the NJ license plate on his car, the trooper said (with a thick Southern drawl) "Son, NOBODY goes through Georgia at 80 miles per hour." Without thinking, the smart ass replies "General Sherman did."

So how long did they throw him in jail and what trumped up charges were they able to stick on him?  Plenty of southerners still echo the mantra: The South will rise again

Because anything that legitimizes homosexuality is an affront to their imaginary friend. And they can't openly hate blacks and Jews anymore, so they need a new scapegoat to hate on.

The 14th Amendment is not part of the Bill of Rights.

wumpus: Didn't that Supreme Court decision say that denying these benefits violates the equal protection clause of the bill of rights? That seems like a glaring problem for their logic.

So another lawsuit will be filed, make its way to the Supreme Court, who will not be at all pleased about these states ignoring the court's earlier decision. Right wing or left wing, there's nothing that makes a judge angrier than ignoring their instructions. It'd be amusing to see conservative Chief Justice Roberts send out the US Marshals to jail the governors of these states indefinitely. Doubt it'll ever get to that but I'd have a 'Real Genius' level of popcorn for the show if it did.
