Is closer to ethnic Russian dance...

I learned everything I needed to know from Cirque du Soleil

It's ok, though, because the credit card slip reads "Russian Imperial Ballet Company"

Thought exercise: replace every instance of "China" or "Chinese" in that article with "American." See how few times the change produces an implausible assertion.

/ok, the spitting parts, maybe. And the "people from Beijing and Shanghai cannot travel on the same bus" bit. But the rest of it...

Russians punking Chinese?
No way.

"the travel agency AmericanTours International learned that Chinese tourists required a special touch. For one, people from Beijing and Shanghai cannot travel on the same bus.

"They clashed," recalled Nick Hentschel, the company's director of business development."

I'm intrigued. What's the story here?

I mentioned this at the dinner table this evening about the Chinese tourists being sold authentic Russian folk-dancing that involved bikinis and poles.  I bow before my 12 year old daughter who immediately said, "To be fair it was authentic Russian-folk dancing."

It'd be like a bus full of New Yorkers and folks from Atlanta.

Outsiders rarely get to observe "traditional ethnic x" because the traditional form of x is (to outsiders) really weird, incomprehensible, and gets boring fast.

/I thought all tourists knew this

I thought the South Korean drumming stuff was cool, but the dancing shiat was really repetitive.  Except the planting festival dance, that one was pretty cool, seeing scores of old men in rows doing this rice-plating pantomime thing all in synchrony.

Do Chinese tourists come here to see square-dancing?  That would be freaky.

Try replacing "Beijing and Shanghai" with "Seattle and Dallas".  People from the deep south are some of the worst international travelers I've seen while abroad, and many seasoned travelers are embarrassed to be lumped with them.

zerkalo: French offended by other country's tourists? Oh, that's rich

When I was in Paris, I noticed that most of the locals were pissed at the Chinese mainly because they would just start taking in broken Engrish as opposed to French.  The French really don't like that.

I personally had a wonderful time in Paris.  But then, I learned some basic French, always started a conversation in French, was patient and otherwise laid back, dressed well and tipped well.  About a quarter of the time, the person I was talking to would ask if I wanted to continue in English or German after listening to me butcher their language.

OscarTamerz: So they rioted in Wyoming because they thought some other Chinese we're getting breakfast first and Beijing and Shanghai commierades can't ride on buses together.  During the cultural revolution there were reports about show trials run as theater productions and the inevitable result of the trial of some peasant who was marginally richer than her neighbors due to ambition and intelligence was a guilty verdict and the victim would be beaten to death on stage and then cannibalized.  A real life version of "eat the rich."  The truth is that the Chinese hate Chinese more than anybody else.

400 million people in China can't speak "Chinese"

HAhahahaha ... well, no. Seriously, I can't imagine groups of Americans not getting along for reasons of where they came from. We're a very mobile society, maybe that's why I can't understand Shanghaii-ers and Beijing-ers can't be together?.

I've had the fortune of traveling to a lot of places, and my time in China was the absolute worst. The most inhumane people i have ever met. I had more respect for the people in India and dealing with their caste system than i did with the savages in china.

Its a shame, too. They could be great. Just look at South Korea.

The communist bureaucrats from Beijing nationalized ie confiscated all the Shanghai businesses and all their freedoms. Like actually did that.
