(LA Times)   Nebraska Coach Bo Pelini: Now when I said on that tape that Cornhuskers fans are a bunch of inbred, low-brow cousin-raping morons who wouldn't know good football if it bit them in the ass, I meant "We have the greatest fans in the world. Go Huskers"   (latimes.com) divider line 40

The guy running the football factory that gave us Suh and Incognito is a less than stellar citizen?  Color me a bright red shade of shocked.

His days are numbered in Nebraska. Why not just tell the truth and that he was pissed off at some fans for trash talking their own team/coach and leaving well before the game ended and in the heat of the moment, said what he said because he meant it. His "apology" sounded like something his agent or pr person scripted for him. At least he would have some dignity and credibility.

That being said, they're the only team the entire state of Nebraska has to root for, so yes, they do get pissed off if they're not in the hunt for a championship.

We have the Creighton basketball team, which at the moment probably has at least as good of a shot at a national championship as the UNL football team.

That said, I was about 25 before I found out that Creighton was a team from this state, so I can understand if it's underappreciated.

They forget they're in Nebraska, nobody wants to go to college in Nebraska. That state is so flat it should provoke more suicides.

I just want to say that Nebraska fans were definitely the classiest and most friendly fans that visited Blacksburg during my five years at Virginia Tech.  We rushed the field after beating them with a miracle comeback, and their fans stayed in the stadium to applaud our team.  For a second I felt kind of foolish running around on the field (but only for a second - that was an awesome game!).

Yeah, much better to live out east east where it's literally impossible to see more than 100 feet in any one direction for all the trees.

Every time I've ever been to New England I came home feeling like I'd just locked myself in a closet for 2 weeks.

Are you really comparing the beauty of nature to the flatness of a straightedge? You will lose that argument to human beings every time, not to mention you are less than a couple hours from a real beach. Yeah that really sucks, I would rather be on land so flat all they can do is let cattle graze.

on my local espn radio 4pm to 6pm show they had a former university of colorado football coach on. he wasn't the head coach but he was talking about a game at nebraska. he was hit by a jack daniels bottle from the stands. augie tammariello is his name. he is a regular on the show. he was at boulder from  January 1968 -December 1974.

I went to KU back in the early 90s, and had a good friend who went to Creighton. We'd visit and have a good time. They do have loyal fans, but not nearly on the scale that is Cornhusker football. When they visited Lawrence, it was a sea of red, so we'd mostly not go to the bars that weekend, because it was way too crowded. I'm sure there were obnoxious fans, but I never heard anything too bad...a lot of older alumni seemed well behaved and nice.

Prairie is nature too, fyi.  And looking out a car window at grassy hills isn't any more boring than looking out at a solid wall of 5,000 identical maple trees.

Not saying there aren't plenty of places more beautiful than Nebraska, just New England isn't one of them.

not to mention you are less than a couple hours from a real beach.

Been to beaches in both Maine and Texas, got bored after a couple minutes.  Seemed pretty dreary.  Plus the sand got in my shoes.

Anyway, how's a giant, endless expanse of water more interesting than a giant, endless expanse of grass?

Exactly, argument over for high school boys, Nebraska loses. And if the only beaches he's judging it are the giant cesspool called the gulf of mexico and some cold climate beach people only go near for lobster then he does not have a good frame of reference.

And yes the prairie is nature, boring nature that is prime tornado location and nothing is more fun than getting lost in the woods for a weekend.

Nebraska is sportsman's paradise.  Hunting, fishing, camping, etc.  All without the huge throngs of people.  Of course what you're arguing is a matter of opinion.  Claiming victory in a disagreement of opinion is like arguing on the internet.

Wait, it is arguing on the internet.

Mr. Pelini will be lucky to see out the remainder of the season.  IMO, Tommy Frazier didn't just decide on a whim to bash the Nebraska defense/d-coaches.  While I do think whomever released that audio recording is the very definition of "low rent," the release of said audio probably was not done on a whim either.

Would love to hear from a Nebraska fan as to what has be/is going on in Lincoln, or as Paul Harvey would say, "the rest of the story."  While Bo Pelini doesn't seem to be a "warm and fuzzy" likable guy, he has been somewhat successful in his time at Nebraska.

And Nebraska fans need to get over themselves. I've been going to games for 15 years. We're not any better than Ohio State, Alabama and Texas A&M. We really need to stop patting ourselves on the back and proclaiming ourselves the greatest fans around. I'd think the best fans in college football would be humble enough and not so insecure as to engrave it on the side of their stadium. Hell, it's so quiet in Memorial Stadium with so many old people half asleep at the game and a bunch of fair weather fans who bail when the going gets tough. Nebraska isn't as special a fanbase as they want to believe.

Serious question, I'm on my mobile tonight and it's hard to search - did the video of Lou Holtz flipping the podium on Rece Davis and Mark May, over the subject of Mack Brown's job security?

Best part - Lou telling Rece Davis he's farking around until basketball season.

Velvet, Nebraska fans didn't engrave it--Steve Pedersen did, and they fired him for that (among other things).   Nebraska still is a special fanbase, but the blue-hairs are ruining what used to be a distinct home-field advantage.

This may change as the baby boomers start dropping off, though.  There are plenty of young fans that want to do the part, but the blue-hairs gobble up the tickets.
