Jim Irsay is trying really hard to wrestle the "Most Annoying NFL Owner to their Head Coach" trophy from Jerry Jones.

Who?

As a Colts fan, I really like it that our owner lives and dies with the performance of his football club.  I've seen the guy after a loss...he's f-ing devastated...and that means he's 100% motivated to improve the club 24/7 and not just cash the checks and go to sleep on his huge pile of money at night.

AND he's smart enough to hire experts to play key roles like General Manager, etc. and basically be the "owner/figurehead/public PR" guy and let the football people do their jobs.

Sure, he's flakier than Tony the Tiger...his tweets and his quoting rock lyrics are just ridiculous...but whatever, the guy has put a GREAT football team on the field for well over a decade (except for 2011, Manning's OOF neck year) and as a Colts fan who watched some of the worse NFL teams of all time take the field in the 80's and 90's I could care less about his eccentricities...as long as he puts a consistent winner on the field and isn't hurting himself or others...I'm good with it.

And quite frankly...unless you are a fan of one of the other historically elite NFL teams, you would be too.

I love how both sets of power rankings listed today have the Pats way up there when they looked like shiat against two teams near the bottom of both sets of rankings.

I used to think that way until I realized that no one's ever thought of them as great and they've never won anything. So I really don't think that people thinking they're great is all that bad.

Normally, I'd agree with this at face value and move on. However, you have to admit, there's a certain amount of brilliance in "The Steelers are becoming irrelevant for the first time since the Pirates weren't."

In Week Two, performed exactly like Peyton Manning.  In the playoffs.

I mean, it wasn't a great game, but 71.4% completion rating for about 300, a TD, and no INTs isn't really something to scoff at.

Well, if Irsay is unhappy with the offense, he can always go to his backup QB:

False.  I despise Irsay.  I'd be OK with him if he's just shut the hell up and avoided his excessive AW tendencies... but the guy is a complete flake.  A nails-on-the-chalkboard variety.

It's not a great game, but more than 70% completion percentage and no INTs isn't a bad game.

Good.  If you deliberately tank the season to get the #1 draft pick, you shouldn't be that upset if everything else doesn't fall according to plan.

I waver on this, except for one thing. They threw 4 million at Kerry Freaking Collins on the expectation that he was still competent/sober. He wasn't. At that point there wasn't another QB left available, they were cap-locked, and you didn't want to trade for an upper tier QB with a long term contract if you still hoped PM would return. So unless Irsay just lit a match to 4 mil on a whim, I don't see it.

I don't disagree. The lack INTs especially. He did have a lost fumble but I don't recall it being because of anything particularly bone-headed he did.

Yeah, he just had the ball tapped out as he threw. The bigger problem with the Cowboys right now is that they simply can't include the run in the offense.

well either they're an awful organization because losing a QB turns you into the 0-16 Detroit Lions with historically bad defense, or they basically stopped caring in which case none of them should still be playing in the NFL, or they tanked on purpose

i like to think they tanked on purpose

Well, until a thread gets GL'ed, a day old semi-relevant thread will have to do:

The Colts just traded a first round pick to the Browns for Trent Richardson. Signifying two things:

1. Jim Irsay was not farking around.
2. The Browns have punted the 2013 NFL season (unless Brian Hoyer can pull a Derek Anderson).
