I understand their concerns about abortion and homosexuality, but I'm going to need a little bit of clarification on their concerns over America's "state run church."

Where do you want to go?  The left can always threaten to move to Canada (as if Canada would just say, OMG Americans, welcome to your new home!), but where's a disenchanted conservative going to go?  Outside of the Islamic world, I don't think there's a more conservative nation out there.

Nice boat.

2013-09-17 12:45:11 PM
a) They want to move to Kiribati, one of the poorest places on earth.
b) Rather than just buying plane tickets, they bought a boat and are equipping it with a year's worth of food.

I think we've seen the unholy collision of legal-system cargo cult (sovereign citizen) with *actual* cargo cult.

2013-09-17 12:46:21 PM
If they really meant it they would burn all US IDs and their passports.

2013-09-17 12:47:07 PM
Yeah, clearly that was god just saying "Try harder, you idiots."

2013-09-17 12:56:00 PM
First, I don't want them back in Arizona. Stay away.

Second,

"They were eventually picked up by a Venezuelan fishing vessel, transferred to a Japanese cargo ship and taken to Chile," the Associated Press reported.

Why not stay in Chile? It's fairly Christian.

Third, how come Gilligan and the Skipper successfully found an island to remain lost on all those years, but these guys can't even find death the appropriate way?

Nadie_AZ: Why not stay in Chile? It's fairly Christian.

Because Chileans are not American Christians, they're Hispanic Catholics. Those devil-worshiping papist wetbacks aren't REAL Christians.

/I'll bet they even put sugar in their porridge

I think they want to die at sea. Probably some misguided attempt at martyrdom. "Christians are so persecuted in heathen America this family chose to die at sea than put up with the persecution another single day!"

You mean to tell me I've been sarcastically calling everything TruConservative, TruChristian, and TruTruth for years when I could have been copyrighting something like this?

From wiki on Kiribati, which is where they want to go: "More recently, President Tong has spoken of climate-change induced sea level rise as "inevitable". "For our people to survive, then they will have to migrate. Either we can wait for the time when we have to move people en masse or we can prepare them-beginning from now ..."http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kiribati#cite_note-32">

So maybe this family will be forced to become permanent immigrants.

Hilarious.

They'll be fine, because this time they're prepared.  They've got a GPS app on their iPhones.

Do we have the technology to transport them to 1936 Germany?

How about no. They had a 3yr old with them. Rescue the kids first, then the slow death, yada yada.

Honest Bender: Neptune? NEPTUNE! That's the bastardization by the Romans.

Don't argue, man, the USMC and the Navy both refer to Him as "Neptune".

Either way, I'm rooting for Him to send those poor fools a kraken.

It's my understanding you have to renounce your citizenship in the US embassy in another country.

I'm sure they don't believe in climate change, so this shouldn't be a problem for them.

This. As a sailor, ignorant idiots (religious or not, which I consider a further crippling disability) are in fact making things worse by requiring aid and rescue.

The sea, being "godless" and incapable of either approval or malice, kills the unprepared. Faith-based sailors will only encourage the gubmint they despise to further regulate and license all who wish to sail for fun and recreation. Thus the dummies will bring the state to a greater degree to the stateless high seas. A well-prepared sailor in a properly maintained boat is functionally libertarian and beyond, should they wish to be, most state initiatives when offshore. They don't even need to use GPS; the stars are "unregulated".

Nice one, Jeebus suckers. WHERE IS YOUR GOD NOW? Etc.

Karma Chameleon: It's my understanding you have to renounce your citizenship in the US embassy in another country.

That is true.

The state dept. also recommends that you have citizenship in another country before you renounce.

And there is a fee, of course.

Though I'm not much of one of those 'Think of the Children' types, something really does need to be done to stem the willful abuse/neglect of children that's done in the name of Religion. If you want to sail off to paradise in a leaky rowboat, that's fine with me. Please, go kill yourself, but leave the kids out of your derpy decisions. The world's a farked up enough place for them without you making it a lot worse.
