Unrelated CSB:

I was 15 miles into the Chicago marathon last year when some idiot jumped out of the crowd, and into the race course right in front of me to grab the perfect picture of her son/daughter/whoever.  I had to jump out of the way to avoid running over this woman who was significantly smaller than me.

In hindsight I wish I hadn't dodged her.

Should that happen again, plow through her. After she's been trampled by everyone behind you, maybe she'll learn a lesson.

My wife and I get a daily laugh from a friend of a friend's Facebook page. This chick is the biggest A.W. who ever lived. Multiple selfies every day, either in the gym, her car, or in the cemetery next to her brother's grave. There's about a dozen of those, always smiling or doing duck face. So farked up.

The only thing worse is at the end of a marathon when the kids come running out to cross the finish line with their mommy.

Most of the bigger ones are really starting to crack down on that; Chicago especially a couple years ago I noticed it.

Pretty funny to watch the arguments-
"your kid can't finish with you, only runners"
"but who do you expect to take care of my 7 year old?"
"not us, that's the point."
"but it will slow me down to find my husband and return her"
"probably should have paid attention when we said this is not allowed."

Supporting friends and family is great, but the finish line is a cluster and it needs to be kept clear for runners and race officials.

New trend that I have only seen and yet to have to deal with in race:
Smartphone music being played out the crappy speakers instead of with ear buds.  Dear god, if someone did that by me for more than 100m, their phone would be on the side of the road.  Ok, that's a lie, but they would be yelled at until it was turned off.

Yes. Her Facebook page has dozens of those. It's her brother's grave, and every time she visits it she takes a duckface or smiling selfie in front of it. Here are some more below.

One time she posted a picture of a Dunkin Donuts iced coffee cup with the words "Why didn't you come in?" written on the side. She claimed the drive through guy had written it because "OMG, he was trying to flirt with me!" But in the background of the picture is the same color marker that the message was written in with the cap off. Psyyyyyyychooooo.....

Again, just another example of society's overblown sense of entitlement. "Let's see, I'm going to let my toddler stray into the path of hundreds of adults who are going as fast as they can to get across the damn finish line and STOP RUNNING because it'll be so cute to have a picture of him/her holding hands with daddy/mommy/auntie/whoever." It's a danger to the runners, it's a danger to the kids, and you know that if anyone gets knocked over their parents will file a lawsuit before the race is even officially over. They allowed their child onto a closed course, but of course it's the organizers' fault...

I hate duckface. I've never done the duckface thing in my life. I did have a habit of doing the Elvis lip curl thing though. I didn't even

There were at least 4 races going on (5k, 10k, half, full).  So if they started the 5k and 10k together (fairly common), she would be finishing with slower 5k runners.

Also, possible that she got caught up in a group of guys running the 10k at her speed.

There's a surefire way to eliminate that problem:  Band-Aid Tough Strips Extra Large Waterproof...uhh...band aids.  The ones that look like duct tape.  You'll thank me.  They stay one for an entire marathon and come off relatively easily.

Specifically these:

Uzzah: He should run faster. It shouldn't be hard to get ahead of someone who is texting or taking pictures while running. And if they're still faster than he is while doing that, what's the problem?

What happens is that people line up near the front of the starting line (which is usually reserved for faster runners) and do that.  He's a pretty avid runner so he usually lines up with the 7 or 8 minute/mile group. You'd think that everyone in that group and ahead of you would run faster.  But at this particular race people just get in line wherever they want and walk. So he's while he's trying to get a good time he has to spend the first mile or so of the race weaving around groups of people who are texting and taking pictures. One or two people doing this is generally not a problem.  But when you have 40 or 50 it disrupts the flow of the race.

With those Band-Aids, you don't have to shave and when you pull them off, they don't rip off your chest fur.  A buddy that I train with and I did a couple weeks of research during runs - we tried all sorts of stuff - and those particular Band-Aids were the only thing that worked 100% without having to do anything extra.
