Can't wait. I only wish more players were healthy. I'm happy that Giroud didn't actually injure that knee.

I'm curious how the lineups shake out. Now we have the luxury of alternating midfielders. Maybe they make Cazorla Mr. Champions?

As far as US viewing goes today, FSN has Bayern Munich/CSKA Moscow, FS1 has Manchester United/Bayer Leverkusen, and FS2 has Galatasaray/Real Madrid.

Man City will be playing in 12,000 seat stadium as Plzen hosts it's first ever UCL match. Those small ones are usually pretty cool.

Casillas is finally starting a match. If you'd told me last year that Casillas would be getting his spot taken by a desperation buy, I'd have laughed for 5 minutes straight.

Hopefully United can actually show some dominance out there.

It's walking distance from the Pilsner Urquell brewery, but sadly the stadium itself has no history. Just a redesigned Commie lookin-thing.

Last CL campaign 2 years ago they had to play in Prague because the stadium didn't meet CL standards.

Bale in the bench today. Wonder why.

My picks for tonight

Man Utd v B Leverkusen - tie
Plzen v Man City
Bayern Munich
v CSKA Moscow
Benfica v Anderlecht
FC Copenhagen v Juventus
Galatasaray v Real Madrid
Olympiakos v Paris SG
Real Sociedad v Shakh'r Donetsk   - tie

Olympiakos will predictably be on fire (literally), CSKA fans will try to cause a riot, Galatasaray v Real should be the most entertaining (Real lost away last year) and I hope Man City hang 10 on Plzen. I'm also a bit curios how Real Sociedad start since they sold their best player.

Real Sociedad dismantled Olympique Lyon in the playoff. They're looking damn good with Griezmann and Seferovic.

hang 10

*googles*

Still not sure if serious understand.

Is it that
a) you don't like Plzen and hope City makes them look foolish or
b) do you hope City is overconfident and fails spectacularly or
c) something else?

I'm putting it on Galatasaray/Real. It's never not fun to watch a game out of Turkey.

A) I believe because Cajnik's favorite team were knocked out by them (if I remember correctly).

In other news, Kagawa starts!!!

Still don't get why people are hyping Galatasaray. They beat Madrid in the second game, yes. But the man coaching was Jose "Let's park the bus when we're winning" Mourinho. I doubt he took that game seriously at all.

Stimied in a Rut: In other news, Kagawa starts!!!

Still no love for Zaha, though, while Young gets a seat on the bench. Zaha has looked awesome when he has gotten on the pitch, and he can actually run with the ball, which is something the Utd midfield has been desperately lacking.

Is Zaha injured or is Moyes just a bit slow?

I still don't get that. Every preseason match, I heard a ton of hype about Zaha's play. You'd think that would be enough to secure a starting spot. It sure has for Isco.

I was told there would be no math...

I like to complain, but I'm torn really. Czech has one CL spot, so only the league champion plays (imagine that!). Plzen won the league on the last game of the season, so yea I hope they get crushed. On the other hand, it would be nice if they get some country coefficient points and get back to 2 CL places. They only need to move up a few spots to do so. Worst of all, I've fallen into the Liverpool syndrome of "Well good riddance to Europe, it will help us focus on winning the league finishing 4th"

But regarding City's recent history, I would not be shocked if the group finished Bayern - CSKA - Plzen - City, or more realistically Bayern - CSKA - City - Plzen.

Nice choreography in Istanbul

23 red cards between Pepe and Ramos for Real Madrid apparently. Javier Zanetti they are not.

God I love the CL anthem.

Bale apparently not fully fit yet eh? I thought he'd been faking a knock to force the move. Guess not.

2013-09-17 02:55:25 PM
Rooney isn't having the greatest time.  Should have taken a shot one time, takes a second touch and the shot is blocked.  Then can't bring down a cross from Valencia in a good position.  United looking good to start though.

Since I assume we have Man U fans in here, anyone care to rationalize Sir Alex Ferguson regularly texting referees in the PL?

Bayern and Benfica already up early

Faaaaaaaaaaaaaark. Ramos elbowed Casillas. Medics coming out to check on him. Goddammit.

Damn straight Casillas. Stay on.

How the fark is that not a penalty?

2013-09-17 03:08:55 PM
Clattenburg is not impressing me on this match. First he denies a penalty, then falls for Sneijder's theatrics.

Is it just the microphone setup or is Galatasaray actually the quietest of the three Fox-aired matches?

Cajnik: Since I assume we have Man U fans in here, anyone care to rationalize Sir Alex Ferguson regularly texting referees in the PL

Well, he had to have some way of telling the refs how much stoppage time he wanted and when to blow the whistle.  What, were they just supposed to read his mind?

All I'm hearing is a very poor impression of the Figo match at Camp Nou. Whistle every time Madrid gets it.

Carvajal playing really well. I'm impressed.

Galatasaray's going to rue these missed headers. Especially Melo's first one.

Pepe with the reputation yellow. That wasn't a card.
