Fiction Fan: Meh. Anybody can play Batman.

You're really not wrong. Keaton was my favorite because he was the only one who played Bruce Wayne as a kind of a psycho. Not over doing it but he was definitely unbalanced. Everyone else was adequate. Yes, even Val Kilmer and George Clooney. There's no reason why Doc Holiday and Seth Gecko can't be badasses, they just weren't asked to be by the director and the script.

They never go into Batman being a detective or a scientist in the films so all he has to do is be a rich asshole as Wayne and scowl as The Bat and let the stuntman do everything else. So as these movies are written, yes, anyone can play Batman. Get Tyler Perry for the urban market if you like.

To be fair, Ben took a lot of shiat for a while there from the press and the internet. I'm not even sure what it was about, something to do with Jennifer Lopez I think. And he got to drinking and whatever but he obviously got himself out of it. Maybe not the best idea to invite more scorn with the Batman thing but I'm not his sponsor.

Was he that bad in Daredevil? I sound like I'm polishing Ben's knob here but I don't believe in hate that isn't deserved. With the exception of that ridiculous playground fight, I didn't think Daredevil was that bad. It's sort of a boring character, IMO but that wasn't the movie's fault.

He was horrible as Daredevil.  He was, once again, playing Ben Afleck in a costume and Blind Ben Afleck, Attorney at Law.  And the parts where he wanted to be intimidating, I was giggling at the screen.

I like Ben Affleck. I like his movies. Usually... The problem is; I see a lot of roles where he's playing the same guy. That's fine, some people do that just fine. Some people have a niche that others figure out, and they only get cast in certain roles, but you enjoy those roles, or at least I do... Keanu Reeves, Pauly Shore(Yes, Pauly Shore), and Gilbert Gottfried are examples of this. If Reeves is put in the type of movie he does well in, his wooden acting style fits. I liked him in The Matrix, Bill and Ted's and Speed. I can't imagine him as a romantic lead though, so I won't  watch chick flicks with my wife when he's playing that kind of role. Shore and Gottfried work when they are playing annoying, yet funny, characters. When they are in those roles, you might want to strangle them, but eventually you figure out they are in there for that reason, and the movie is fun.

Affleck is fun, and he might be able to pull off Bruce Wayne, but unless he comes from nowhere with some Michael Keaton type shiat, I just don'e see it working.

BTW, does ANYONE know why they can't just keep the same Batman for more time? It would stop all of the biatching and drama if they'd quit flopping around amongst the acting community.

Look Affleck will be fine as Batman, I mean just look at the horrible performance Heath Ledger turned in as the Joker. If the character and franchise can survive that it can survive anything.

Entropy?

Naw, but seriously, Keaton's Batman was 1989, 24 years ago. Since then, we've had Keaton, Kilmer, Clooney, (Conroy?) and Bale (way to fark up the alliteration, Bale), and now Affleck. If we're talking actual-Hollywood films, that's 4 or 5.

Since 1989, we've had 3 Bonds - Dalton, Brosnan and Craig (with a new one TBA).

// I honestly thought there were as many or more Bonds
// so I guess my point is that there are plenty of roles that go round-and-round
// Batman being a fairly popular character, it really shouldn't surprise anyone

That aside, when given the material, Affleck can turn in a great performance. I think he'd be the first to admit he's dialed in roles he doesn't really care about.

Ben Afleck couldn't be intimidating in a role if you put a gun to his head.

Someone find me a clip of something, anything, of Ben Afleck being even slightly intimidating in any role he's ever played.

Any animated DC movie is infinitely better than any marvel animated film, and even some of their live action.  I just watched Ultimate Wolverine vs the Hulk and I want my hour back.

Meanwhile I'm up to 4 viewings of the flashpoint paradox.

That's not even getting into the argument of dark knight vs marvel lineups, which I'm sure many think TDK is the best superhero movie.

9 Bond movies with 3 different actors. 7 Batman movies with 4 actors...

Those two statements are not equal. Besides, most people want to forget that Dalton ever existed as Bond. He can play a bad guy amazingly, but he sucked ass as Bond.

Sorry, their movies usually suck. Most DC characters are too vanilla to be interesting. I have to agree with that other poster who said their animated stuff is good, though. They seem to have nailed down something there, for sure.

I was thinking the exact same thing, then saw your comment... I liked Daredevil. I didn't see anything wrong with it, and the movie seemed very true to the character. Michael Clarke Duncan & Colin Farrell were both excellent casting choices for the roles they played. Duncan nailed the KIngpin character.

We also had 2 Spider-Man (men?) and three Superman in about the same time. Seems Hollywood likes to have a ton of actors playing the same character faster then it takes for Bond to be replaced. We are on Bond number 6. The only other character I can think in live action entertainment that has been played by more people is The Doctor who is at 11 going on 12.

That's pretty vague... It's just a comic book character. It's not like there's a lot of dimension to the character: Blind, yuppie lawyer knows martial arts. Afleck can realistically fit into a role like this. Some people just don't like certain actors for their own personal reasons - it has nothing to do with the person as an actor. We are all human - I get it. I don't like Dane Cook. lol
