Next time you reach into your Mulberry tote to grab your purse

A tote for your purse?
Is this anything like putting a bag of holding into another bag of holding?

What's with all the germ-a-phobe articles lately? Big deal, so there's a few bacteria found on this and that. Contact with bacteria is what keeps your immune system healthy, if you kept everything in your life germ free, the first time you came into contact with some you would most likely get sick and die.

Next time you're around a plumber, ask him when the last time he was sick, I bet it's been years or even decades. They spend their life shoving their hands down nasty ass toilets, sewers and god knows what else and as a result their immune system is damn near invincible.

Benevolent Misanthrope: People carry dirty underwear in their purses?  WTF?

Many (not all) women experience heavy bleeding during menstruation. When feminine hygiene products fail, it can lead to soiled underwear. To avoid the embarrassment of walking around without underwear during her period, a woman may take additional pairs of underwear with her and carry the soiled underwear home to wash.

As a man, you probably can't relate. A women's studies course would do you some good. They have such classes at your local community college. I suggest you sign up.

My wife has a good hundred something purses. Most of them are the smaller clutch kind.

Should I call the CDC?

this is CLASSIC fail... let's take a tour of the article:

'Next time you reach into your Mulberry tote to grab your purse, you could be putting yourself in danger of catching a serious - and potentially deadly - disease.'
be sure to panic! oh wait, it says *could* be
The study - which took swabs from inside a selection of women's handbags - found evidence of deadly food poisoning-inducing bacteria E.coli and faecal Streptococcus, which can cause pneumonia and bacterial meningitis.
More worrying still, researchers found traces of Coliforms, from the faeces of man and warm-blooded animals, which can lead to bloody stools, stomach cramps and diarrhea.

im panicking again! oh wait, it says *can*. it also gives no context... we probably find these bugs everywhere - door handles, etc etc
'Many people admitted too that they carry dirty underwear and used tissues in their bag every day.'
what's 'many'? no % figure supplied

you get the picture

As someone who used to clean public toilets I'll tell you right now I'll take the tampons in the purse over the tampons in the restroom any day of the week.

Also, and this is key, public restrooms AFTER cleaning are only slightly more dirty than a surgical theater or operating room because as filthy as they seem when you go in, they're much worse when you have to clean them out and I'm not touching ANYTHING until it get hits with disinfectant twice. By the time I'm done, those toilets have less live bacteria than the inside of a bottle of bleach.

yuk

'dirtier than' is inherently misleading though. what does it mean... more bacteria in terms of numbers? more interms of species/strains? more virulent species/strains?

lol. we have to keep the loo door shut else Omar (the cat) drinks from the toilet. little farker drinks from the water at the side of the bed instead. nothing worse than waking up in the night thirsty to hear lapping, and realise someone has got there before you. someone who licks his bum and eats mice

our old cat got caught drinking from the toilet at my fiance's birthday party, by about 6 guests. it was very embarrassing

Also, there's a 100% chance that at some point there will be feces fermenting on the surface of something in a bathroom. That's a whole heap of CFUs.

So while a woman's purse will have more bacteria on average compared to the freshly cleaned, aka sprayed down with triple strength disinfectant, toilet seat it will have less than average that that seat that's right next to the turd that was smeared on this morning and kept moist by the humid summer air for 6 hours as no one wanted to touch it.

Depends, personally I smear apricots on the toilet seat before I lick it, and then it tastes much the same.

you're not the only one, but i wish you'd stop. you touch things all day that have been touched by people who don't wash their hands after the use the toilet.

just wash your hands before you eat and you'll be fine

layering loo paper on the loo seat is a dreadful waste of paper, and almost certainly protects you from nothing

Oh, I get that. Really, I do. I understand that on the rare occasion I'm forced to leave my house, I have to come in contact with people and their very foul germs. But I absofarkinglutely refuse to put my bare ass where another dude has put HIS bare ass. I always shower for an extended period if I've gone out in public and had to touch things others have touched.

I have no problem working the garden, or car engines, but people germs...people are farking gross. I also don't shake hands.

I have issues.

/even moreso since my wife is a doctor...she has to shower before contact.
//people really are gross

I do that when in busy public bathrooms.

I recall Penn & Teller had a Bullsh*t episode where they swabbed random toilet seats, grew the results on agar plates and found them pretty much free of bad bacteria.

However, I'm more worried about viruses, which P&T wouldn't have picked up as you can't culture them on agar like bacteria. Like flu, or noro virus.

Also, its suggested wash your hands with soap for at least 15 seconds and use the paper towel to open the door on the way out. You might have a great immune system but others you'll come in contact with may not.

I think most cats will do it. It's cool and refreshing. It's an artesian well as far as they are concerned. Now, my grandmother had a Siamese cat that would drink out of the toilet  with big long ones floating around. Then she'd want to get up in your face and lick you,.

Female humans are leaky things.
They have a hole in their head that leaks nonsense, two holes in their damn shorts that leak pungent effluence, and a hole somewhere near the black egg meridian that leaks karmic entropy.
They carry bags to deflect attention away from the leakage. You see a female and think 'hmm, what's in that damn bag?' rather than 'what's that crazy nonsense coming out of her mouth?'
As a result the bag gets tainted by your thoughts, they dry to a flaky patina and eventually odors manifest.
It's not dirty though, you could eat your breakfast out of most bags and not worry.

It's where the nutty water comes from.

My cat used to sit in the sink growling at the taps.

If a cat drinks from anything but the bowl it's most likely because they prefer aerated water. Buy them an electric fountain/pump and it should sort them out. It will, however, leave you with fewer conversation starters when the guests arrive.

A "women's studies" class?  Are you serious?

Yeah.  If I want to know such things I'll ask my girlfriend or the rational women that I associate with.  I don't need to spend a semester dealing with the half-veiled accusations that I am a racist, homophobic, mysogynist, privileged, probable pedophile, potential rapist, potential wife beater.  The people who teach those classes are the worst element in the educational system.

Been there, tried that.
