Didn't they decide that these feet that keep washing ashore often come from undocumented suicides off bridges in the area? Something about the ankle eventually disintegrating, but the foot in the shoe survives, and eventually floats to the shore because of the buoyancy it gets by the rubber sole of the shoe (the rest of the body sinks).

I mean, not that it shouldn't be news when body parts wash up on a beach, but I wouldn't think it would be a case of "hrm - I wonder where this came from?"

At least I got the visual of the black mesh running shoe ad to the left of the article.

The GG doesn't have any undocumented suicides that I know of. Way too much traffic all the time but then if they were undocumented... der! The San Rafael is too close to the water. Drown maybe but no splat. Well, 185 feet is no joke if you jump but not weapons grade splat. The San Mateo has a high spot but you would have to stop your car and jump off so no undocumented here plus it is too far away and I doubt the current would carry it to Ocean Beach. The Carquinez is way out of bounds.

So probably not. BTW who is they?

Oldiron should be grateful to be saved from that clunker!  I was going to go with "someone is taking this whole "Bay to Breakers" thing a little too seriously

Forgot one thing. These feet don't keep washing up. It is not a weekly occurrence or anything.

I do the same thing when I see a shoe on the side of the freeway.

Why does it seem to disproportionately happen on the West Coast? Differences in water currents, suicide methods, media coverage, gangland body disposal? I want to believe East Coast gangsters execute people like this, but the West Coast executes people like this.

According to the original article it washed up on Ocean Beach. So it's surprising they were even able to see it through all the fog.

It happens on both coasts, but people actually walk on the West Coast ones. Would you pick up something on the Jersey shore? Most won't.

/West Coast FTW

Ah the Hepatitis Sea.  Only picking up the herp there.

Though we have a Long Island serial killer that's been active 2 decades now leaving parts all over the beach routes.

Of course the golden gate has undocumented suicides. There is no official number of suicides, it's just an estimate.

California Current? Ha! It spends more time hitting the Washington coast (and Canada) than being anywheres near Cal. A bit smug, wouldn't you say?
