Lsherm: How farking stupid do you have to be to not check and see if a gun is loaded?

Even if you think a gun is unloaded you are not supposed to point it at a human being and pull the trigger unless you intend to shoot them.  He violated all 3 (or 4, if you use Cooper's) rules for safe firem handling.

Given the total disregard for safety, there being NO safe way to carry out this "game," I would certainly hope this angle is investigated.

But I've been reliably informed by people right here on Fark that everyone who owns a gun is trustworthy and responsible and would never point a gun at someone unless they were 110% sure it wasn't loaded and could never fire by accident and furthermore comma and suchas.

if you point a gun at someone and pull the trigger, shooting them is not an accident.  i can't believe how often we hear stories like this.  there was just a story last week about some guy who shot his girlfriend because he was trying to show her that the gun wasn't loaded.  how was he showing her?  by pointing it at her and pulling the trigger?  the asshole in this story should have pointed it at himself instead.

You never do that period. There is not checking to see if the gun is loaded before pointing it at a 3 year old and pulling the trigger. When there is a 3 year old around it belongs locked up somewhere only you can get to it when needed to protect said 3 year old.

Sad to say I don't think this kid had much of of chance if this was the type of guy mom let around her child.

Treat ALL guns as if they are loaded

This. Treat all firearms as if they're loaded. That's the first firearm safety lesson that should be given before someone even looks at a gun.

Unfortunately having half a brain cell isnt a prerequisite for exercising constitutional rights. It is really too bad the guy didnt shoot himself instead.

/would probably accept more restrictions on our constitutional rights if only would start with mandatory licensing for human breeding...probably another way this tragedy could have been avoided

No, how dumb do you have to be to EVER point a gun at someone you don't want to kill or something you don't want to destroy. That is the FIRST lesson you learn in any firearms safety course. It doesn't matter if you think you know it's unloaded or not, you still ALWAYS treat a firearm as if it's loaded because the consequences of being wrong can't be taken back.

So ... we need better laws to keep guns out of the hands of irresponsible/dumb people?

I actually heard an asshole Catholic priest named Father Bob, at Corpus Christi Catholic Church, in Destin. FL make this EXACT idiotic remark following the Sandy Hook shootings. I had only gone to make my dear sainted mother happy after not having been back to said church since bully pulpit cocksucker priest called out childhood molestation victims as "stupid" for planning Cardinal Law protests during John Paul II funeral services.

I told my mother I would never set foot in that shiathole again. I had already told said priest he was WRONG about attacking people who were children who were ass-farked by Catholic sex perverts claiming to be priests and "Christ here on Earth". He told me he "may have been too harsh and did not express himself clearly". I told him he was an asshole whose prayers never got any higher than the ceiling of his farked up excuse of a 'church'.

Can't make that kind of farked up shiat up.

Not checking the gun wasn't the primary issue here. If you think it is, you know nothing about gun safety.

Always treat a gun as if it's loaded.
Never point a gun at something you don't intend to kill.
If you intentionally pull a trigger while pointing a gun at a person, you intended to kill them.

What's difficult about this?
