Every week for the last month I say "that was the best episode ever".

I don't know if I can physically handle the finale.

I really enjoy the podcasts.  If you're interested in all about how the writers in the room got to the places they did, check them out.

A few scenes I hope to see in the last two episodes- Walt goes completely scorched earth with the M60 (preferably high and crazy on his product for the first time), A ricin-laced cook that kills thousands and makes blue sky synonymous with blue, a montage of the damage being done by Walt's product around the world, and Walt's body being put in the drum by Jesse, the casket that he's conveniently packing around with him.

I thought about it for a while after watching it last night, and I have to say that "Ozymandias" is probably the single-most intense episode of television I've seen. All those tweets that Aaron Paul keeps putting out about the audience shiatting themselves won't seem so amusing in the next couple of weeks.

Breaking Bad, The Wire, Deadwood>The Sopranos. I don't know why David Chase strung out the Sopranos but once we started visiting Tony Sopranos coma dreams, the series diminished as one of the best. Now Breaking Bad will hopefully show how a series should end.

I still think the best Breaking Bad endings are from "Crawl Space" and "Half Measures" were some of the tensest moments from the series.

Nothing was more intense than watching the Nazis drag Jesse away while Walt just stood there. Holy shiatballs.

I've watched Ozymandias twice and I missed that imagery of Walt's reflection in the car with the bullet hole.  That's entirely too coincidental to not foreshadow what happens to Walt.

The White house being filled with the sounds of Walt's horrifying laughter and Marie's frantic telephone message is the single best moment of the series, IMO.

There's lots of contenders for that honor, though, and I expect it will be trumped in the next two weeks.

Yeah, that's definitely up there. I think Gus walking into the nursing home for the last time, helped along by the soundtrack, was pretty intense too.

I would watch an entire show about Todd.  He's like Dexter except without all the inner torment.  I think a show about a sociopath who doesn't have any idea he's a sociopath has some real potential.

I like that idea. However, in this scenario, there'd be no reflective, inner monologue with The Blood Theme.

Questions...

1. How much time has passed between Walt leaving town with the guy in the van and when he buys the M-60?

2. Is Walt wearing a disguise or is that his natural hair?

3. What happened to his cancer? Assuming it's his real hair, it has to be 6 months or so since he left town.

2013-09-16 08:49:01 PM

freak7: 1. How much time has passed between Walt leaving town with the guy in the van and when he buys the M-60?

Between 8 and 9 months. Earlier in this season we see that its Walter's 51st birthday. Then there's the Crystal Blue Persuasion montage which (its said in the show dialogue somewhere) covered 3 months. The flashforward is his 52nd birthday.

freak7: 2. Is Walt wearing a disguise or is that his natural hair?

Hard to say for sure, but it seems like it would be natural. Odd for him to have a disguise which looks just like his real hair.

freak7: 3. What happened to his cancer? Assuming it's his real hair, it has to be 6 months or so since he left town.

Yup, 8 to 9 months.

DamnYankees: Yup, 8 to 9 months.

Doesn't that seem a little to long for a guy that was undergoing chemo and told his cancer had returned? I mean, we do see Walt take some kind of pill when he's in the Denny's bathroom, just after completing the purchase of the M-60, but he still seems to be doing pretty damn good for a guy with terminal lung cancer. Given that it's most likely his real hair, we can assume he hasn't been undergoing chemo.

I'm still curious as to what exactly he plans to do with the M-60.  Not a practical weapon for firing from the shoulder.  It weighs 25 pounds when its empty.  Add in ammo, and it is more than an old guy like Walt could accurately aim and fire.  Perhaps he planning on luring his victims into a location where he can mow them down from a fixed position so he wouldn't have to carry around the gun and ammo.

To be fair, Todd does actually seem to be a better than average meth cook. He's just not as good as Walt and Jesse.

You're not thinking about it correctly.  Imagine the episodes:  Todd kills his girlfriend's dog because it bit her.  Todd kills the emo 13 year-old boy next door because he said "I wish I was dead.  No one likes me."  Todd rapes an extremely ugly girl because she is upset she's never had sex.  Todd amputates a man's arm because his son, an amputee war vet, once mentioned "I wish my dad knew what it was like to have a missing limb."  Todd cuts the balls off his own father after he discovers his dad cheated on his mom because his mom said "if I ever caught him cheating on me, I'd cut his balls off."

The possibilities are endless.  Each 30 minute episode could begin with someone making a wildly inappropriate comment around Todd that they clearly don't mean, and then Todd would make it happen in the first ten minutes.  Then you could spend the back 20 dealing with the repercussions.  And the in-joke for the entire series is that Todd just wants to help.

Kudos to Vince Gilligan for knowing when to end a show.  One of the many reasons Breaking Bad will be a classic forever is because it didn't drag on beyond its expiration date.  No shark jumping here. I'm sure anyone who is sticking through the currently airing final season of Dexter will agree

This might be the first time that I actually feel bad for the people that are going to be marathoning the last half of season 5. I've needed a couple of hours to come down from the last few episodes, let alone the idea of watching this sh*t back to back.
