Now me and Arthur, our brains are a little on the smooth side, but we know one thing:evil is bad and good, isnt't!

It's known brains smooth like that for people who are in comas for very long times, so not quite as unexplained as the article alleges.

/use it or lose it

Honest Bender: Well of  course it was a Texan.

Unfortunately, without knowing whose it is, you cannot make that statement as fact.  It's definitely probable but not the only or simplest solution.  Perhaps the brain itself was shipped in from somewhere else for storage.  Perhaps the person was sent there from out of state...a traveling carnival couldn't handle its attraction any longer and dropped him/her there...who knows...but I don't think they'd discard a female, though, just because...well, gross as it sounds, free sex.

Anyway, I'll hold my comment on your joke as "Possible Chuckle when more facts are in" and see what else comes from the story.

I wonder if her vagine was as smooth as her brain.

So, maybe someone who was actually from Connecticut, for instance, and only pretended to be a native Texan?

Unusual yes, but not in a good way.

While the jar containing the brain is labelled with a reference number, the microfilm containing the patient's medical records has been lost.

This is a consequence of poorly secured brain deposit slots.

"He or she was a resident of what is now North Texas State Hospital, a mental health facility, "

What I read from this is that people imprisoned in mental hospitals can be dissected like lab rats because they're not seen as humans. Truly horrifying.

Uh yeah, and you don't even want to know how they were treated while they were alive.

Or at least, they could back in the 1970s, when this dissection took place. It was one of the big motives for de-institutionalization.

Earlier this year the University of Texas took delivery of an MRI scanner to document the structure of the brains in the collection in detail.

Hmm, a brain in a jar is a package that can be lifted with two hands. An MRI scanner is the size of a van and costs several million dollars and requires permanent infrastructure. Here's a brilliant idea: let's take the handleable items to an MRI instead of getting one for a project.

Actually, I hope it's something along the lines of "The med school got an MRI" but I could see someone getting the holy grail of research funding and leasing an MRI machine.

Then again, this may have been a person who was dumped there and ignored by his/her family. That sort of thing still happens, sadly.

That's scary if you've been taught enough to known that a human brain needs to have folds to work correctly.
