Don't marginalise this serious subject with jokes about underlines and bold, subby. Everyone knows it's the font that's the thing that can really drive a message home.

And yet, the bulk of the population of all those countries thinks we should just shut the fark up and sit down.

i wonder if the people making jokes about "sternly worded letters" are also the same people who were complaining loudly just a week ago about obama getting ready to bomb syria.

When they deliver the message, the messenger must stamp his foot several times, as he reads the letter.  I know, I know, foot stamping and stern looks, are the purview of the UN, but, people are being gassed over there.

Or that under Agenda 21, the UN is gonna take their guns.

Yes, Yes... I too cheer our government doing deeply unpopular actions to further the west imperial interests. Thank god for righteous crusaders who have strong ties to our corporate betters making money off of this.

I'm never quite sure to make of people who think that blowing up a few random buildings and killing a bunch of people who likely have nothing to do with the issue at hand is the 'right' course of action to take.

Y'know... Bill Clinton said that letting crimes against humanity and human rights violations occur in Rwanda was what he most regretted during his time as President... it still haunts him to this day...

Syria is Obama's Rwanda.

Ask Obama to explain it then.

We started out at "Assad's administration has killed too many thousands of innocent people, it must go", and that was a demand that made sense. You can do that with military action.
Assad then escalated things with more butchery and chemical weapons violations. With the full weight of God and law behind us to follow up on our threats, Obama scaled them back to punitive and pointlessly small cruise missile strikes. Those made no sense, even to the hawks.

Then Putin talked Obama down to accepting old boxes of chemical weapons, to be disposed of anonymously and withing any real accounting for how much Assad had or where he got it. We're not even sure when this will happen, but in the end its an action meant to save political face while making a best effort at NOT stopping the ongoing war and NOT replacing Assad.

We've diplomacied ourselves into a corner where the bad guys get exactly what they want.
The people who wanted to burn down Assad's house at least started out with a valid goal.

"furthering the west's imperial interests" is exactly WHY "the bulk of the population" is ABLE to enjoy shoveling Big Macs into their maws while watching Honey Boo Boo on their 60" flat screens.

I think Obama's a C- president, but he's really in a no-win situation here.  He's bungled it a bit, certainly, but I don't even Clinton could have come out of this smelling like roses.  It's a mess.

You don't start by shooting your mouth off about "red lines" and "this will not stand" for one thing.

That never ends well.

The UN is the Strongly Worded Letter Gang that Can't Shoot Straight on the days that end in Y, and the Evul Black Helicopter New World Order Agenda 21 Illuminati Trilateral Commission Bilderberg Group Conspiracy on the other days.

Ask Ghadaffi about sternly-worded letters from the UN.
