Yep. They're estimating a minimum of 8-10 hours.

CNN gave a good summary of what is still sitting inside that thing.. Basically described it as a toxic soup of all sorts of chemicals, fuels, and rotting food.

IIRC there are at least two unrecovered bodies as well, one of them a crew member. The salvage crew plans to search each cabin once the ship is upright & stable. Any evidence they find will be turned over to the Italian prosecutor.

Yup.. No one has been deep in that thing since the search for survivors was called out because it's still considered a crime scene.

They just started as the salvage crew was waiting for the sun to rise. That didn't happen until a short while ago.

If the time in the BBC play by play is right.. It isn't starting for an hour anyway because it was delayed for 2hrs due to an overnight storm.

It didn't work for me on either Chrome or Firefox.   Could be the AdBlock, I guess.  It works fine on IE, but I don't have any extensions installed on IE.

One interesting thing to me is:

According to Wikipedia the cost of the ship was $570 million.
According to the BBC the salvage operation has so far cost $800 million (and could cost a lot more by the time they're done,)

Yeah, this is going to take way too long to watch.  I'll tune in later when something has happened.

Saw a documentary about what they are about to do. They built a platform under the ship, then attached floats on the port side. After they roll the ship onto the platform, they will attach floats to the starboard side, then fill the floats and tow the ship away.

At least that's the plan...

My Google fu is failing me.

There was a James Bond Movie...where the British had their Hong Kong head quarters in the capsized "Queen Elizabeth" ship that caught fire and capsized in shallow waters.

The man with golden gun.

I was trying to find interior shots of the head quarters where they had put 'level' floors on the offices space for British MI.

Ahh..okay got one hit there.

Parbuckling Project. Parbuckling is a salvage technique used to return a ship to an upright position.

It's been getting on for two years. Any food that wasn't stored inside an airtight room / refrigerator is going to be long surely has to be long since finished rotting, and probably a fair bit of what once was airtight no longer is either. You're talking about an environment rich with water, oxygen, and sea life. At the very heart of the ship oxygen levels will be lower, but you can be pretty sure with the number of openings in that thing, there's at least a slow current through it cycling out the stale water and replacing it with fresh, oxygenated sea water.

This.

It's going to make for some terrible video, unless it goes badly wrong. Based on back of the napkin math, for a tilt of around 64 degrees (rough approximation in Photoshop) and a 10-12 hour parbuckle (according to what I've read online), they're going to move it about one degree every 9-11 minutes.

Watching wallpaper peel will be about as exciting.

Really. If it's not sweaty, you're not trying hard enough.
