Cewley: in keeping with their reputation as ignorant liars, fox ignores BBQ in north carolina.

Seriously.  Nothing beats whole hog BBQ with a thin vinegary sauce.  Other BBQ can certainly be awesome, but that's the peak.

And Memphis.  So, no.

Y'all have obviously never been to Mable's in Williamsburg Brooklyn.

Best BBQ ever in the history of ever.

Wow the Yelp reviews for Daisy Mays are pretty pathetic.

make me some tea: Wow the Yelp reviews for Daisy Mays are pretty pathetic.

Look at the picture they included with the friggin' listing.  Is that supposed to be barbeque?  Allow me:

Subby and whatever mod greenlit this are just trolling y'all.

From TFA: For the best of the best, try one of these smokin' spots, listed in no particular order.

2013-09-16 01:10:15 AM
Wait, they decide to pick an NY place for number 1, and don't even pick the right NY joint (Dinosaur BBQ)? Lame.

2013-09-16 01:10:56 AM
I'll give them the benefit of the doubt.  They could be authentically transferring BBQ from KC, NC, or TX.  And could have a story that comes with that.

*checks about us page*

Nope.  Never mind.

I like all kinda bbq. I'm sure New York have some good BBQ.

I like these threads because we find out who hates mesquite, and from there we can wisely disregard their BBQ opinions entirely.

NC BBQ is amazing: If you like crappy BBQ.

/seriously I know a bottle of apple cider vinegar is $1, but let me taste something else please.

2013-09-16 04:33:38 AM
All right. That's it. I've had enough of this shiat!

Fox News can lie about politics all they want, but when they start lying about barbecue it's time to break out the torches and the pitchforks.

2013-09-16 04:33:59 AM
We have many fine BBQ joints in the KC metro. Haywards, Quick's, RJ's(my favorite), Rosedale(the best beans), I still prefer Memphis bbq.

NYC has good pizza, also crime and foreigners. And the air smells....bad.

Gig103: Wait, they decide to pick an NY place for number 1, and don't even pick the right NY joint (Dinosaur BBQ)? Lame.

Best NYC BBQ in order:

1) Fette Sau
2) Mighty Quinn's
3) Everything else

I'm with you on Dino, but only the one in Syracuse.

I highly recommend checking out Hometown BBQ in Red Hook - just opened and they might give Fette a run for their money.

Also, Daisy Farking Mays? Wouldn't crack my top 20 NYC BBQ.

Anywho, all of this being said (and coming from a native NYCer) there is no farking way that the best BBQ place in the country is in NYC.

2013-09-16 04:52:16 AM
What the fark is BBQ?  Is it like barbecue?

2013-09-16 04:57:03 AM
Next they'll be saying New York has the best pizza.

2013-09-16 04:59:20 AM
NYC? Really, wtf. Had some damn fine BBQ pork at lord knows how many different roadside joints down south, and I've blown out pants eating brisket in Texas. And there's this guy from home they call Hog(or Big Don) that if you not the name beer and fixins will come by cook you a damn fine pig. But I do'n know if'n I could pick pick a best.

Next on Fox: The best taco stand is in Fargo!

2013-09-16 05:03:02 AM
"Best" is subjective and kind of meaningless.  It shouldn't surprise anyone that good regional food can be made quite successfully away from its region.  And NYC is home to more transplants than almost any city in the world, it would be surprising to fail to find good BBQ with a bit of looking around.  But "best"?  By what universal taste standard?

Grew up eating Montgomery Inn BBQ. Not sure it belongs on this list, but it's how I think BBQ should be done.

2013-09-16 05:12:02 AM
I've eaten BBQ in plenty of places in Texas, the Carolinas, and the Memphis area. While I can't pick individual winners from there, I do agree with Dreamland in Alabama being included as an example of a style. Dang fine stuff.

There also seems to be an offshoot of Louisiana or New Orleans BBQ emerging. It used to be basically Texas style around here, but it is morphing into a different thing. Best tailgating in the world here, as far as food goes. The BBQ has to be something unique,

2013-09-16 05:18:55 AM
There's a whole of fail on that list. I don't know what that is at the NYC joint but it ain't BBQ.

/ KC style or nothing
// Carolina ? Might as well chug vinegar.

Grey-colored meat is not BBQ. Neither is vinegar-drenched pork.Been all over this world, and gotta plug Hard Eight in Stephenville, TX. Best I've had in 15 years on the road.

2013-09-16 06:01:09 AM

pedobearapproved: /seriously I know a bottle of apple cider vinegar is $1, but let me taste something else please.

You can pour a bottle of ketchup on it.  Then it will taste like 'regular'  barbeque.

So KC style is like chugging tomato sauce?

Eastern NC is all about the properly cooked meats.  The vinegar sauce is meant to be an accent and bring out the true flavor.  KC style is about covering up your overcooked or rotten meat.

At least they didn't mention that overrated tourist trap "The Salt Lick"

2013-09-16 06:31:39 AM
I really liked the BBQ of a place near Colorado Springs called Rudy's I think? It was a gas station and BBQ joint combined. Brought meat by the pound.

Mesquite is nasty, use apple and peach wood. Shagbark hickory is for the ribs.

squibbits: At least they didn't mention that overrated tourist trap "The Salt Lick"

Ahhh... Hitler's favorite, as I have just recently found out from D_I_A.

(btw... why do they subtitle in english "Mein Fuhrer" as " Mein Fuhrer"? Is it because of that Dr. Strangelove movie... 'cos that'd be a pretty good reason.)

2013-09-16 06:38:34 AM
NYC has had some decent BBQ places open up recently, this wasn't one of them.

oh, so our usuall bbq snob thread?

For the record, the best bbq you'll ever have is made by an ancient black man living in a tarpaper shack 20 miles from the ass end of nowhere, in whichever region you deign to choose for bbq.

All that vinegar has done rotted your brain son. BBQ like jazz was perfected in KC.

The first sentence of the article shows the author's ignorance:

"In the mood for barbecue, but just don't want to light the grill?"

Grill?

lostcat: Grew up eating Montgomery Inn BBQ. Not sure it belongs on this list, but it's how I think BBQ should be done.

Yeah, I'm proudly from Cincy, and Montgomery Inn is amazing, but I don't know if it deserves to be on a best list.

Except maybe "Best place to take your out of town friends when they want to try Cincy Standards but they turn up their noses at Skyline"

/No one says no to Graeters though.

2013-09-16 07:07:19 AM
I can see that.  There is nothing about barbecue that can't be imported into NYC.   If I was the best pit master, I would want to have the widest available audience so as to actually make some money.  So I wouldn't set up shop in the middle of farkin nowhere

"beer can-style half chicken " WTF? that's not BBQ.

Sure, anything you cook outside is BBQ. Hamburgers, shrimp, eggplant, whatever. If you can taste the lighter fluid, you've got yourself some real authentic barbecue.

2013-09-16 07:29:15 AM
WTF the Georgia barbeque is Korean BBQ.  Something tells me the reviewer is from NY.
