*sigh*

The Catholic Church does some wonderful things regarding social justice, and they're at least consistent in their views on the sanctity of human life (unlike republicans) but every now and again they unleash a truly stupid spokesman. It usually looks a lot like this.

Reading further...

In October of 2012, Niendstedt found himself at the center of a similar controversy when a letter he wrote surfaced in which he tells the mother a young gay man that she must reject her son or go to hell herself.
"I write to inform you that the teaching of the Catholic Church on homosexuality, as described in paragraphs 2357 and 2358 and 2359 of the Catechism of the Catholic Church is rooted in Scripture and based on the Natural Moral Law.  Catholics are bound in conscience to believe this teaching. Those who do not cannot consider themselves to be Catholic and ought not to participate in the sacramental life of the Church... Your eternal salvation may well depend upon a conversation of heart on this topic."

From the Catechism:

2357 Homosexuality refers to relations between men or between women who experience an exclusive or predominant sexual attraction toward persons of the same sex. It has taken a great variety of forms through the centuries and in different cultures. Its psychological genesis remains largely unexplained. Basing itself on Sacred Scripture, which presents homosexual acts as acts of grave depravity,141 tradition has always declared that "homosexual acts are intrinsically disordered."142 They are contrary to the natural law. They close the sexual act to the gift of life. They do not proceed from a genuine affective and sexual complementarity. Under no circumstances can they be approved.
2358 The number of men and women who have deep-seated homosexual tendencies is not negligible. This inclination, which is objectively disordered, constitutes for most of them a trial. They must be accepted with respect, compassion, and sensitivity. Every sign of unjust discrimination in their regard should be avoided. These persons are called to fulfill God's will in their lives and, if they are Christians, to unite to the sacrifice of the Lord's Cross the difficulties they may encounter from their condition.
2359 Homosexual persons are called to chastity. By the virtues of self-mastery that teach them inner freedom, at times by the support of disinterested friendship, by prayer and sacramental grace, they can and should gradually and resolutely approach Christian perfection.

Nothing like Christian love, is there.  These people are sick.  Sick, sick, SICK!  But we don't discriminate against them!  At least, not unjustly.  We just tell them they can never enjoy loving relationships and have to settle for "disinterested friendship".

Fark you, assholes.  All of you.  Anyone who defends the Church or claims to be a Catholic.  This is what you support.

Use of this phrase is a demonstration that one's cerebral cortex has calcified; that one is no longer able to consider any other point of view, and, upon encountering one, has no intellectual alternative but to dismiss it as evil.

Agent Smiths Laugh: Prophet of Loss: Danger Avoid Death: Prophet of Loss: Danger Avoid Death: Prophet of Loss: Most of the child killing in the Bible was done in times of war against enemy peoples.

Well, that's okay then. Carry on.

No one said its "ok". But, it was the "norm" of warfare at the time. The Jews could have enslaved them I guess or maybe raped them first like their contemporaries of the time.

The Bible does actually speak against child killing. Specifically, the burning of live children in fire to the God Molech as practiced by their neighbors.

Yeah, because the killing of children is definitely not okay when it's done in the name of somebody else's God.

As Lewis Black said, the Old Testament God is kind of a prick.

Well, if I was forced with the horrible task of choosing a death for my child I would rather a quick death at the sword them being burned alive. If Moloch is the alternative, I'll take the Old Testament Prick God any day.

Or you could, you know, try to prevent said child's death with everything at your disposal like a sane, rational person.

/and yet, here you are, making apologetics for infanticide/filicide

Also, I know you don't like religious people, but who is the one pointing fingers and calling names? If you going says your champion rationality, you can at least provide a rational argument without the sophomoric barbs.

Agent Smiths Laugh: Prophet of Loss: If he was the example of perfect morality, then why didn't he condemn those two "immoral" things?

One interpretation of 'disciple' is 'slave'. There are many examples in history of people calling themselves 'slaves of Christ'.

As for slavery, we are all slaves. We just think we are free.

Oh I'm well aware of the biblical interpretations of "servant" as it could be read as slave.

Problem is any interpretation that favors servant marginalizes slavery (especially with respect to obvious references to it in the bible), and any interpretation that favors slave demonstrates a god that is pro-slavery. A sticky position for christians.

Again, you are a slave in many ways even though you think you are free. Are living the life you would choose? If the barriers erected to prevent you from rising from your station were removed would you continue to live as you do now?

I am not a Catholic but this

"2358 The number of men and women who have deep-seated homosexual tendencies is not negligible. "

Is absolutely right on. I don't care if you are Christian, Catholic, Muslim whatever, but if you claim to be of this religion accept it. God does not like gays. He destroyed entire cities because of it and other sin.

The churches that change their teachings based on popular opinion instead of what is outlined in whatever book they use is shameful.

The only thing I really question about losers who post this kind of self-aggrandizing bullshiat is how their childhood went.  You can just imagine these losers being introduced into the tightly-wound superreligious nonsense by having their mothers beat them up because the last episode of Dukes of Hazzard was somehow 'rebald' and such.  This sort of religious squealing always stems from someone being jealous of someone else's sexuality.

In fact, I'd like this asshole to be honest about it:  "I never got many women, I'm jealous, and I bought into the idea that I'm too old to go out and have some good honest sexual fun, and that is being transferred into my impotent rage of being a complete tool who can't break with some sad convention in the community I happened to be unlucky enough to be born in.'  To hell with all this Jesus flanking, Pastor....why don't you just be honest with yourself?

Now that we're pushing for atheism, we'll have to settle on blaming our fellow man instead.

Are you that naïve to believe that it hasn't always been somebody else's fault right from the start?

It's human nature to preserve itself, thus attempting to shift the blame, and therefore any repercussions, for wrong-doing to someone else. From that position, yes one could say we've been practicing the evasion of personal responsibility since always. The Satan concept is superbly accessible for that purpose. It's also a complete sham that doesn't actually absolve responsibility.

Saying that it is not man's place to cast judgement is not saying being gay is evil and God will sort them out later. It means it's not man's place to judge.  The pope reiterated that.
