I was totally in favor of Riot Fest, because "festival", right? Then I saw who the promoters were

Heck, I'd risk great discomfort and injury at the hands of scatterbrained attention whores to see at least three or four of those bands.

On the train towards Humboldt Park right now, hopefully I'll be lucky number 7!

Yellowcard? About all I know of them is that my daughter and one of my sons used to listen to them when they were around 12 years old, but today at ages 16 and 19 they get very embarrassed if I mention the name.

Is it just them, or can anyone else confirm that this is a band that people outgrow?

I'm waiting for the notion that bands are fashion statements and the whole idea of music is being on the bleeding edge of cool this week to go piss up it's own rope.  The music is the music.  Like what you like.  If you just need obtain and discard things to "be at the front of the herd", you can do that with designer clothing and appliances.

Evidently old dudes are quite welcome to stroll around the park and drink Old Style, but you pretty much have to be a meth-smoking satanist to pick up chicks.

At least half the attendees were law enforcement personnel or informants.

Everything kids did at 12 is something they've outgrown and embarrassed by at 16, except masturbation.

But yes, Yellowcard became very dated, very quickly.

Dinosaur Jr. -shiat, I'd like to see them. Are those dinosaurs what kids are really into these days?

Was there the past 2 days. I'd assume most of those injuries were from people running to the front rows without having any idea what it's like to be in the middle of thousands and thousands of people at a concert. A couple of the headliners had to stop the show between songs and ask the crowd to take a couple steps back so people in the front could get up. I swear, it was like amateur hour for half the crowd. Go practice at a few shows at the Metra before going big time. Bands were good though.

Debating whether to go today. Nothing really excites me on the schedule to make the trek to Humboldt Park, Bears are on, and it's cold and rainy.

$7 beer, and no re-admittance, is bullshiat, though.

I was completely amazed to see they were still around, so your guess is as good as mine.

That said, Riot Fest's lineup was insane.  I actually read it out loud to several people. But I saw Sigur Ros and Dismemberment Plan instead at the chillest festival ever where I didn't have to really fight for a view ever, so it was a good weekend anyway.  Even if I didn't get to see GWAR and Blondie at the same show.

/getting old apparently

From riotfest.org:  We may not be the prettiest festival, but we'll totally sleep with you on the first date.

Sadly, I don't trust these people to put it in the correct hole.

There are incorrect holes?

I hope the Replacements add some more dates.  The only three they've committed are the three Riot Fest shows.  I'd rather pay the same or less to see only them with 1000-3000 people instead of at a festival.

I saw J as Dinosaur Jr with Mike Watt on bass and I can't remember in drums and it was great. Then a few years later saw the original lineup and it was pretty disappointing. You may not have missed much

I can't see bands like that anymore, since I went to college with them. I'm always thinking "Guys, you're FIFTY now. Leave that to aging attention whores like the Stones."

Punk just loses something when half the band is going bald.

2013-09-15 11:00:02 PM
I saw Flag last month and it was one of the fiercest shows I've seen in ages. They may be pushing half a century but Keith and company bring it. F Ginn indeed.

Aside from the crap weather today I would have liked to go to this. Good lineup and walking distance to my house. Alas, I had to go to a wedding in Albuquerque where I ate and drank all of the things. And bought some crazy blue meth.
