So, reattempt tomorrow afternoon/evening?

And on the 7th day God did speak and said: "So you think you're in charge, Helton? I'll rain out every chase race and subject your followers to endless hours of Rusty Wallace trying to fill up broadcast time."

rhiannon:

I have a 30 year old diesel. What is this "passing" thing you speak of?

Occasionally, you'll see a vehicle in front of you, and you have to plant a firm left foot..........to be able to raise your butt to the right to let one go. It's more difficult with the preponderance of bucket seats.

One of the requirements for ANY car/truck that I drive is DEEP SEATS.  It takes several full intestine emptying air biscuits to fill those.  But once you lift butt to get out.....PEEEE YEW!!!!

Pussies, put on the rain tires and get your ass out there. I'm sure when the hillbillies were running 'shine they didn't call time out for rain.

We had snow at the top of the corkscrew a few years ago. It was the same year that it got so hot during MotoGP that the track melted.

The last comment I made doesn't appear to make any sense. But it does. See, when you have a nice doo you don't want it to get wet, and... something.

Why does this Harvick interview have something that sounds like a hand-cranked 1920s victrola playing in the background?

Rain might stop within a half hour or so, meaning a prime-time finish.

Cooler temps might make track-drying take quite a bit longer than usual however.
How do they not bring Air Titan to every chase race by default?

So while we're waiting things out.

Has there been any news about 'Dega possibly getting lights?

I think the Chase should be changed so that Chase races include at least one short track if the Bristol/Martinsville kind as well as one superspeedway race. Perhaps even one road course. Wanna win? Learn to run all tracks well.

Professor Farksworth: So while we're waiting things out.

2.66 miles plus pits. Don't think so. That's been the biggest reason, just the sheer size of the track, on the off chance it might be needed. No chance of a night race there, it's an hour on a no traffic day from Birmingham where there are the closest number of hotel rooms.

The 1.5 mile tracks and short tracks are different thing.

Do we know what channel the race will be on when it comes back?  My wife took over the TV at the start of the rain delay and I don't remember what channel it was on to check.

Oh, but where could we possibly find a road course with enough history that people will recognize the name? One that has fantastic weather in autumn? Somewhere where the greats of motor sports have run before? A place that is used to large influxes of tourists with plenty of hotel rooms?

;)

Here in Canada we get farked again.
No ESPN2 or otherwise.
Baseball on TSN
Football on TSN2

No announcements from either to when we will get the replay.
Probably 4 in the morning knowing those idiots.

Yeah, I'm guessing no one will stream it either.

HamstersFromHell: Farking Sweet: Chevy got NASCAR in the early 70s to effectively ban the Ford Boss 429 and Chrysler Hemi big blocks with rule changes and restrictor plates so the boxy Monte Carlo could compete. In the 80s the Ford teams had to run recessed headlight buckets while Chevy teams got to cover theirs flush. Bill France JR. was on the General Motors Board of Directors. You have your multiple championship drivers Waltrip, Labonte, Earnhardt, Gordon, Stewart and Johnson. In their heyday with Chevrolet they would have a top 5 car every week right off the truck no matter the type or length of track like JJ does to this day.

That pendulum swings both ways. You're forgetting that NASCAR changed the rules to allow Ford teams to move the engine down in the frame on T-Birds so they could actually put a real manifold on it. The Ford small blocks were so tall, the V-6 T-Bird made more HP that the V-8 did in stock form due to that little "problem". Prior to the rule change, you could only more the engine 1 1/2" forward or backward from stock location. The Elliotts were eternally grateful for that.

Also remember when NASCAR allowed Ford to run the Taurus, which was never produced in a 2-door version. With that little rule change, stocks cars pretty much ceased to be anything near stock any longer.

Oh yes they throw Ford a bone once in a while for sure. 1985, 1988, 1992, 1999 and 2003-2004. The eighties were about Ford expanding in Cup and 92 they had a nice advantage after the head of Ford Motorsport threatned in public that if a Ford didn't win the Cup that year Ford was pulling out of NASCAR. The Taurus was allowed for 98 to keep Ford in the series as well since the only eligible car at the timewas the Linoln Mark VIII which Ford refused to run. Kranefuss racing had a prototype Mark Vlll testing at Charlotte which would have been awesome.

http://www.markviii.org/LOD2/nascar.htm

Yeah Ford won the manufacturers championship a few times in the 90s but the real prize is the Cup. It felt like Dodge was thrown a bone in late 2011-2012 to keep them in the series. I felt from the beginning that if Penske had stayed with Dodge they would have both cars in the chase easily as the gen 6 Charger would have had a little something extra and Penske's Dodge engines had a power and fuel mileage advantagee last season. Logano nearly lost an engine at Fontana and Kes lost one in Cup and so did Hornish in NW and l just thought of Dodge saying "miss us yet guys?" Penske Dodge engines had no failures last season!

not exactly optimistic or pessimistic.

The optimist says the glass is half full.
Pessimist says half empty.
The realist says the water is farking polluted.

2013-09-15 07:23:46 PM
Still no official word

But I would have to assume that they're be running tomorrow. It's what, almost 6:30 in Chicago? even if they got the track dried and the race restarted in the next half hour or so, night would fall before the race could come close to finishing.
