And since NASCAR has been under a black cloud all week, there is a 70-80% chance of rain this afternoon.

Mother Nature, please quit giving 100% today so we can race.

Mike Helton has to be pleased with the weather today, after all, Mother Nature is giving 100%...rain.

No need for NASCAR to explain the new restart rule because they won't even be starting today.

I can see him not getting out of the pits in under 20 seconds...

For 2 tires and gas...

If Tony was smart they would swap pit crews for the chase. Not like Martin needs a championship caliber pit crew to change his tires and refill his ensure bottle

I've been glued to NASCAR news all week because I was so impressed by their governing body one day then absolutely disgusted with it the next

They need to look at this race as make or break in regards to putting all this stupidity behind them

Best case? Clear race and the 48 wins

Worst case? Drama, payback wrecks, rain delays, monkey dry humping a gas can, and Joey logano wins after his dad writes Brian France another check

Leader controls start in restart zone. Then the green waves. Second place then can beat leader to line.

New restart rule: No. 2 driver CAN beat the No. 1 driver to the line. Still using restart zone.

Unless the leader spins his tires or Carl Edwards is in 2nd and NASCAR needs him to do a backflip for ratings

Look for a dominant Toyota win today. The truck race had Busch toying with Keselowski Fords. The Nationwide race saw Kyle's Toyota so dominant he led 195 of 200 laps. That was best at a mile + length speedway since Dale Earnhardt led 194 of 200 laps 20 plus years ago. His car was in another league. It looked like it had 50 more horsepower than anyone elses. I figure that another Toyota today got "the call" to dominate and win because remember Mr. France always has the authority to do so.

Chicagoland is his worst track...

Why would you do that to us?!

He's overdue to stop sandbagging. Historically, most of my picks start well, yet end up in the 30th and under spots by the time it's all done.

Was Danica taken already?!

I do pick her off the C list for plate races. I can get more points off her and Mikey than the rest of that group than the rest of them (excluding running out of races to use Stenhouse)..

I did that after Talladega and had Mikey as a not entered the next race. Kinda hurts your standings when you get nothing.

I'm really hoping Truex and Bowyer use this weeks shiatstorm as motivation. Kyle seem to revel in being disliked. They should take lessons from him.

@bobpockrass
Those drying track tell NASCAR race control say "3-3:30" before track is dry. Assume they're talking Central Time but not positive.

@bobpockrass
Air Titan is not here .... NASCAR requires tracks to pay for the big air compressors up front. teams pay for jet fuel they use to dry trax

/assume he means tracks, not teams

2013-09-15 02:52:27 PM
Just to clarify:  NASCAR's response to an attempt to manipulate the points and change the lineup of Chase participants was to...manipulate the points and change the lineup of Chase participants?  At least NASCAR is consistent with its inconsistency.

Psst.  Mark Martin, this might be a good week to ask about that penalty from 1990.

Ratings. They know they'll lose a ton of eyeballs if it runs tomorrow and (just guessing here) lose ad revenue. I'd bet it's in a contract somewhere. Likewise, team sponsors lose their "free" airtime. This is a business first and foremost, racing be damned.

But anyway, thinking Nevada next year. Have car, will travel.

Sounds beautiful!  Yeah, Nevada is the anti-AK.  I an envious of people who live in places where green is a color of the landscape instead of felt.

Bowyer spotter said he was "patted down" at stand. i, uh, hope he was kidding. if not, nascar is serious about that ditigal radio ban

I don't get the digital ban. Trust me on this, with analog radios and that many different channels you're going to get bleed over somewhere which is a nightmare. I usually spend practice days at the track resetting radio repeaters and entire channels. Think about it, at least 43 channels for the cars, and track workers need a dozen at the VERY LEAST.

I'm hoping we can afford the digital upgrade for next season. We're getting a new communications building and all new equipment. We've really been doing a hell of a job using old gear so even if it's an analog upgrade we'll be a million miles ahead of where we are now. Only one more race with the old stuff, World Superbikes. Then we get a sledgehammer party!

End thread jack.

Let's see those lightweight, high downforce open wheel guys try it on an oval before we ask the big heavy low downforce guys to make a go of it.

If I remember correctly, The Great Brian Barnhart tried to make the IRL do it once. Major driver protests ensued. That man should never be allowed near a race track.

Trying to restart Indycar on slicks at a damp New Hampshire gave us the most iconic meme in recent Indycar history. It was, afterall, Barnhart who was the target of Will Power's double bird, when the TV cameras just happened to be on him from a distance.

When they are talking about milligrams on the valve stems, there can't be that much difference between cars. It's in the setup, and behind the wheel. I wouldn't mind seeing qualifying done by drawing names/numbers. This putting the faster guys up front seems backwards. Never made sense to me.

DanZero: nascarcasm @nascarcasm

NASCAR apparently made a mistake on JJ's pit stop. They atone for it by letting his newborn into the Chase.

Seriously

After all the bullshiat about maintaining the integrity of the sport and making up rules...

The NASCAR official has 1 farking job during a pit stop and he couldn't do that right!

Did Joey logano's dad write him a check too?!

I started following the guy his first year in cup racing. Also the first year I really started following NASCAR, so I picked a rookie, I picked well. Sue me.

I follow the Saints in football and the Reds in baseball. Let me have a winner in something.

Woot!

If the race goes on today.

Just woke up fromsleeping through the 2nd half of the morning NFL games and we are on! What'd I miss?

Long rain delay.  JJ gets screwed by a NASCAR official for saying he had a lose lugnut when he didn't, and Kurt sped (allegedly) through the pit on exit.  Also Buddhas, more rain, and spotters being spitting mad.

Did I miss anything?

Chevy got NASCAR in the early 70s to effectively ban the Ford Boss 429 and Chrysler Hemi big blocks with rule changes and restrictor plates so the boxy Monte Carlo could compete. In the 80s the Ford teams had to run recessed headlight buckets while Chevy teams got to cover theirs flush. Bill France JR. was on the General Motors Board of Directors. You have your multiple championship drivers Waltrip, Labonte, Earnhardt, Gordon, Stewart and Johnson. In their heyday with Chevrolet they would have a top 5 car every week right off the truck no matter the type or length of track like JJ does to this day.

My point? If I was a race car driver l want to drive a Chevy.

Ah poor Kurt. I was wondering why he was the only chaser outside the top 17. Thanks!

Is anyone else having problems with Fark today?  Click on the refresh button gives me a "Page can not be displayed" message, and I have to wait around 3 minutes of attempting to reload the page before it finally reloads.

It seems that the problem only happens with Fark, all other websites are working fine.
