Ficoce: Oh, for criss sakes, if those guys are cutting down too many trees - plant some someplace else. Not like we don't share the same atmosphere. The BLM manages over 200 million acres of scrub land that isn't doing much anyway. If anyone has a problem with logging and doesn't plant trees, well, they are part of the problem.

Note that different kinds of trees in different areas may not be interchangeable. Not to mention the associated biotic communities, habitat, local ecosystem services and larger processes.

You may not be seeing the forest for the trees in as literal of a way as one is likely to get.

"The Star Wars actor..."

I just picture Harrison Ford reading that and saying "Goddammit" with a resigned sigh.

By the way, do you really think it's "scrub land" because no one bothered to plant trees on it yet? I mean do you really think this? I'm sort of fascinated.

A lot of invasive plants were brought in, starting with the settlers. Then wide spread cattle grazing was allowed and fire suppression implemented to the point the ecology really doesn't look much like the way we found it. The BLM has programs where they will supply the native grasses to replant after scrub is removed - if you want to plant it, they will give it to you. That would take a lot of effort on your part, just one tree would be fine. I imagine you would find the most forsaken dry wasteland and plant an apple tree for spite - I suggest Juniper.

OMG you act like this is a realistic plan. OMG. You probably have tried to raise children with that brain.

Did you think middle America was once some forested land? Or maybe you know a few things about climate? haha no, I read your posts.

I can't wait to read all the awesome scientific papers forwarded telling me how the western USA was really a big ol' forest. And will be one again.

So how do we afford these tree farms that will require a ton of eco-terraforming of scrub land, Ficoce?

I want you to be VERY specific in how easy it is, that you've solved it all.

America, no the world, waits for you to tell us all how you solved it.

Oregon isn't the USA, you know.

I will wake up tomorrow and check this thread, and I will expect a detailed explanation for how your plan works,  Ficoce. I mean, I want DETAILS. I want to know how your plan works.

Otherwise, shut up and let adults speak.

Oh ha, Ficoce thinks you can just plant tree seeds anywhere and put some water on them, cause that's how smart he is about ecology.

2013-09-15 04:48:36 AM
I mean, seriously, I think Ficoce has embarrassed me as a human being. No peer of mine should be so utterly clueless how plants grow. Good luck in the zombie apocalypse, I know who I'm selling some carrot seeds for 20 rounds of pistol ammo for though, sucker.

Hey!

Tell Mother Nature more how it should work!

Why is that? would he prefer "Hollywood Homocide actor"?

Well he has done quite a lot of other things in the 35 or so years since Star Wars and out of all the cast members he's the one who has tried to distance himself from it the most. It's not a big secret that he gets pretty grumpy when asked about it.

Granted, I can't remember the last time I saw him in anything  good.

Even though it's what gave him his career. Plus he agreed to Episode 7 so he can't hate the character too much.

There was probably a dump truck full of money involved. I'm not arguing with you, he does owe his career to Star Wars. He'd probably be running a pot clinic in Irvine right now if it wasn't for those movies.

Looks like I hit a nerve - sorry if I caused any permanent damage. The Earth is a dynamic place, static thinking can cause a lot of anxiety. My main point is doing something is better than whining about it. Plant a tree today and offset all the CO2 you expelled last night - you'll feel better. If you live in a place where nothing can grow and there is no life... Well, that explains a few things.
