"It's crystal-clear that Solo shot first, Harrison."

The forestry minister, Zulkifi Hasan, said he was left shocked by Ford's emotionally charged interview techniques and complained there was no time to go over the questions before filming began, local media reported

"I suddenly had my face made up and was then interviewed," Hasan told the state news agency Antara.

Yeah, that's what interviews are moran. Most people interviewed are not given the questions beforehand.

Its highly unlikely that most State leaders worldwide would consent to interviews without advance questions. I'm surprised.

Also, is that a f*cking earring you're wearing, Dr. Jones?

But thanks for helping out.

Usually the primary executives running a state ministry can be referred to as State leaders. I didn't capitalize leaders for a reason.

A lot of guys can pull off an earring. Ford is not one of them.

But his contributions to society as Indiana, Han, Jack Ryan v 1.0., Dr. Richard Kimble and the dozen or so men who screamed "give me back my family" in a gristly voice... and let's not forget the RL freelance helicopter rescue pilot work,

yeah, all that excuses it I suppose.

2013-09-14 02:30:16 PM
*that should read 'Jack Ryan v 1.1(.best)'
I realized the err of my ways after I clicked post.

(and let's face it, Ford opposite Connery in that film would have made already good into better. but I suppose that might not have worked after everyone watching them as father and son just a year before)

They really are clearling a lot (so is Malaysia) just to plant monoculture palm oil plantations.  Supposedly it is meant to entrich the poor locals but the facts seem to be that it enriches a handful by HEAPS (and they tend not to be locals.)  The law enforcement in these places are underfunded and hence suppliment their incomes through bribary, so regulations are easy to get around (as is throwing out any local subsistance farmers who get in the way.

And oh poo poo on the Minister - someone asked me difficult questions *cry* imagine if Ford had asked him how such destruction continues to occur under his watch or how close are his relationships with the plantation holders or even something as simple as "I see your annual income is only $A and yet I your total weath seems to be $A x 1000, could you explain the orgins of your family fortune?"

"I can understand that this is the first time for this American to come here and see Tesso Nilo. It seems that what he wants to see is any perpetrators involved in the damage immediately arrested."

That is usually how that works. Somebody illegally logging in a national forest should elicit some response. But I suppose that would interfere with the bribery and whatnot.

Harrassing Ford?

No, it couldn't be...

Here's a simple exercise.
Pretend there's a small forest with a river flowing thru it right next to a small city
It's used and loved by a large percentage of the population.
It produces untold benefits. It holds down the topsoil, prevents erosion, critters have a place to live. The city population is more active and healthier than the national average, the forest is a factor in intangibles such as the mental wellbeing of the population. How is a hike in the forest gonna do anything but cheer you up?
Now pretend that any individual in the population can start a company and apply for a logging permit from the state to chop down half the trees and that individual will make a SHIAT-TON OF MONEY.
Let's say it's owned by the state, not the city, and it's not a protected national park. Whatever. This is hypothetical.
All that individual has to do is be a really determined, rule massaging, pain-in-the-ass lobbyist to get the logging permit. And be smart enough to organize the manpower and machinery to get the job done. Erm, and to possess a thick brass neck not to care about the ensuing protests.
They make themselves a shiat-ton of money. How many people would be willing to be that guy?
"Timbeeerrrrrrr....."

Lots. I know skeezy mega-rich white collar guys that will do anything for money. That's how they got mega-rich. Complete sociopaths.
And hey, sociopaths running big companies?! Pretty accepted theory nowadays.
=========
That's what Harrison Ford is up against on a larger scale. Politicians and timber company owners are willing to team up and chop down swathes of Tesso Nilo national park. Betcha they'd chop down the whole damn thing if they could, as long as they keep making SHIAT-TONS OF MONEY. "And get the hell out of my country for even asking me questions about it!"
And I have to say, Asians are particularly ruthless when it comes to raping the natural habitat wherever they can.

I liked it fine. One should not discount truth just because it appears in crappy packaging (think of the mass media's general term for environmentalists ... dirty hippies.)  Too many of us only look at the appearance and not the substance.

Naturally, this is the fault of US Climate Deniers. If these Climate Holocaust Deniers didn't exist, nobody would have ever ignored or demanded to be an exception to Kyoto, or any other plan designed to fight AGW.

Oh, for criss sakes, if those guys are cutting down too many trees - plant some someplace else. Not like we don't share the same atmosphere. The BLM manages over 200 million acres of scrub land that isn't doing much anyway. If anyone has a problem with logging and doesn't plant trees, well, they are part of the problem.

Simple is as simple does - Ecology is not a zero sum game; instead of biatching by fighting with a negative, fight with a positive.

Oh I know, think of the delicate ecosystem that is destroyed by wiping out all those trees half way around the world. Guess what, the ecosystem isn't that delicate, but it does have a breaking point.

Bears are pretty simple animals. They eat a lot of seed, walk around and crap them out. Bear shiat does more to help the environment than people do. All the combined education in the world is tackling a problem so simple every living being, except man, can figure out.

A lot of invasive plants were brought in, starting with the settlers. Then wide spread cattle grazing was allowed and fire suppression implemented to the point the ecology really doesn't look much like the way we found it. The BLM has programs where they will supply the native grasses to replant after scrub is removed - if you want to plant it, they will give it to you. That would take a lot of effort on your part, just one tree would be fine. I imagine you would find the most forsaken dry wasteland and plant an apple tree for spite - I suggest Juniper.
