(NPR)   ...So I built a third boardwalk. That burned down, fell over, then sank into the swamp. But the fourth one will stay up, and that's what you're going to get, lad. The strongest boardwalk in Jersey   (npr.org) divider line 17

Christie said the fire had taken an "emotional toll."...  he said that after "all the effort and time and resources" that had gone into rebuilding the area following Sandy, "I feel like I want to throw up."

I just don't see him as the purging type.

We need just one more before we can start cracking "Boardwalk 5" jokes.

What are the chances of getting the next one sucked into a time riff?

The 4th boardwalk will mysteriously disappear.  The fifth one's the charm.

ZzeusS: wax_on: New Farkin User Name: Solid Muldoon: Benjimin_Dover: So have they determined the cause yet? Was it shoddy workmanship done while rushing to rebuild it the last time? Are they going to wait until there is adequate water supply to the area to fight fires this time? Questions I think should be answered before another slap together job is done.

Adequate water supply? You mean like that ocean sitting right there?

Similar to how you can't drink salinated water, it also can't put out fires. The salt boosts the thermal conductivity of the water to the point where it is completely useless to extinguish fires. In fact, it might even speed up the spread of the blaze.

Yeah, like how fire boats have to carry around their own non-salty water supply.  Or when that lava flowing into the ocean in Hawaii just caused the whole planet to burn up.  Hate when that happens.

Or

You absolutely cannot use salt water to put out a fire.   The salt mixes with the extreme heat to produce hydrogen sulfate, which is a poisonous gas.  This gas mixes with the oxygen to create a huge fuel air bomb, which will explode and cause much more damage than just the fire itself.

I know, this is what happened when I tried to put out a small camp fire on the Bikini Atoll...never do that again...

It's God speaking to them--he hates that ugly boardwalk.

That can't be true. God loves skeeball. He's something of a skeeball fanatic.

OMG, wow.  You are out of your mind.

Well there is a reason you prefer to use desalinated water to put out fires but yes that reason is complete bullshiat. Salt water can be used to extinguish fires however the result is a concentration of salt and minerals in the fire location which could contribute to an ecological problem as it will kill very living thing in that location.

....of course this is Jersey we're talking about so I guess it would be a wash

I think they need to figure out a scheme to burn down the boardwalk every year. After Labor Day everyone moves their equipment out and they burn the damned thing to the ground.

Would look like that scene in "Monty Python's Meaning of Life"

/No pics cause don't want you to throw up too.
