It was a good call. I'm surprised to see United lacking...something. I'm not sure what. They seem to be content outside of the box. A lot of ball movement so far, but not enough of it is threatening.

In other news I'm in downtown Chicago for a football game but the hotel room doesn't have NBC Sports. Hung over, but considering going to find a soccer bar near me.

It is your FFPL report!

img.fark.net

Round two saw the league increase to 48 players. The three new players scored 0, -20 and -40. Welcome noblehammer16, MNMarkPW and ocirats.

Not too late to join. Entering during Round 3 puts you only slightly behind average..

Search for our private mini-league: FCB76-PVA

The top four remains unchanged, The_Envoy retaining top spot with a healthy 90. Plenty of healthy scores this week in fact. At the bottom, dead_for_tax_reasons continues Operation Hollywood Accounting, decaying down to -75. Tom_the_servo_bit_me retains the all time depth record of a couple of hundred. Norfolking_Chance has tie broken into second to last somehow.

One quarter of the league is yet to break through the 0 point barrier.

Our median player is on 45 - cheesehead_dave and dietbubba take a bow.

Top score of the round is a highly respectable 170 by Scouser_Duck, with a very pleasing +90 from a 1-0 in the Norwich Vs Southampton game. Equally cheeky in respect of Banker placement was Thunderchild, showing off with a +90 haul from a 0-2 in the West Brom Vs Swansea game. Overall performance kept him at +115. Third top score was Hayward_Jablonski, who got there the hard way with only a +45 Banker on the very safe MCFC Vs Hull.

Lowest scores of the week go to a pair of Tottenham supporters - cameroncrazy1984 and ocirats, with -50/-40 respectively. Both made the mistake of putting their Bankers on Big Games.

Most rapid climber of the week was nathanjr, climbing 24 spots to 7th. Thunderchild rose 22. Chupacabra_Sandwich was up 18 having oriented himself after Round 1.

Falling we had dietbubba dropping 18 but clinging onto Page 1 whilst krej55 dropped a mighty 21 spots. He places immediately behind Obamartins who is heading up Page 2.

Only two players on Page 2 have anything of a BB. The_Envoy retains the Presidency of the Banker Bonus club and 5 players currently have the maximum possible BB.

Went up for a ball and nailed the Frankfurt player square in the face. payback's a biatch though. Frankfurt is now up 2-0.

GIROOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD

Özil to Giroud, goal.

I have a feeling I'll be writing that a lot this season.

Welcome to Ärsenal, Özillllll

2013-09-14 10:15:22 AM
Nice save by Sunderland keeper

2013-09-14 10:17:12 AM
Only 15 min in and Ozil is having such a massive impact. Arsenal is TERRORIZING Sunderland right now.

2013-09-14 10:18:05 AM
Missed the first 15 minutes. I take it Ozil's passes are as sweet as ever.

2013-09-14 10:20:21 AM
Halftime in the Bundesliga:
Bayern München 0-0 Hannover
Leverkusen 1-1 Wolfsburg
Bremen 0-2 Frankfurt
Mainz 0-1 Schalke
Augsburg 0-0 Freiburg

Princip's Sandwich: Missed the first 15 minutes. I take it Ozil's passes are as sweet as ever.

His run on that goal was too. It was top class.

Princip's Sandwich: Missed the first 15 minutes. I take it Ozil's passes are as sweet as ever.

What impressed me more than his pass was the way he controlled a long ball gently at his feet. It came from 30 yards away but he brought it down perfectly in front of him, a little bit ahead of him, which let him make the subsequent pass. Just gorgeous.

2013-09-14 10:33:40 AM
I can only assume Spuds scored on another Soldado penalty

2013-09-14 10:39:38 AM

HaywoodJablonski: I can only assume Spuds scored on another Soldado penalty

Nope! Eriksson had a peach of a pass to put siggurdson through and he finished brilliantly

2013-09-14 10:43:25 AM
Uhh. . .has anyone else had problems with the official NBC Sports stream while running Ubuntu?  I had to retreat upstairs to ye olde ancient desktop to stream the Spurs match.  I just bought my new notebook and I'd really like for it to work. . .

2013-09-14 10:44:34 AM
Arsenal looks sharp in their ball movement, a bit unlucky with finishes, though.

At least it happened now; not at the NLD. :)

HaywoodJablonski: Hayward?

Eh, mine isn't 100% accurate either.  I kind of like it, it adds character.

City struggling to convert or defend against a bottom-half team away?  Say it ain't so!

2013-09-14 10:53:50 AM
Oh, ye gods, I actually hit my banker.

2013-09-14 10:56:11 AM
Bayern up 2-0.
Bremen missed a big chance to pull within one (while down a man) by missing a PK.
Leverkusen pulled ahead 2-1
Augsburg and Freiburg traded goals, 1-1
Mainz-Schalke is boring the entire planet to tears.

I think I way overinflated my scores this week.  Gonna be hard to hit anything perfect

2013-09-14 11:05:55 AM
I dunno.  Iffy

2013-09-14 11:06:11 AM
At halftime, the still undefeated in League Two MIGHTY Oxford United are drawing 1-1 with local rivals Cheltenham Town FC

2013-09-14 11:06:25 AM
When it rains it pours. Bremen down 3-0 on an own goal. The wheels have completely fallen off that team.

2013-09-14 11:06:57 AM
Arsenal gets punished for not finishing in the first half.

2013-09-14 11:08:14 AM
I see that Tottenham has doubled their lead.

2013-09-14 11:09:11 AM
And this kind of match is why the insurance chip is still the Arsenal chip. As great as Ozil is, they can concede in an instant.

2013-09-14 11:10:20 AM
I'm really liking this Erikssen cat.

2013-09-14 11:14:35 AM
Oh come on. I must've been drunk off something this week. I put an un-insured 3-0 Arsenal win for this.

2013-09-14 11:17:18 AM
Banker on MUFC, insurance on Arsenal. EPL is back, baby!

/Sadly, I went with a 1-0 banker

2013-09-14 11:17:34 AM
Offside!  Arsenal is definitely regretting those missed chances from the first half

2013-09-14 11:19:33 AM
Arsenal living dangerously. That got really close once again.

FireZs: Jozy's not having the best of days. He looks really uncomfortable out there.

He hasn't looked great in any of the games I've watched.

2013-09-14 11:25:35 AM
Bang, Bang!  THAT was a magnificent goal.

2013-09-14 11:25:42 AM
Well fark...at the rate Ramsey is scoring its only a matter of time before the Grim Reaper comes for Abe Vigoda

2013-09-14 11:25:52 AM
What a volley. Ramsey's in form the past few weeks.

2013-09-14 11:27:32 AM
And the early matches are done in Germany:
Bayern 2-0 Hnnover
Leverkusen 3-1 Wolfsburg
Bremen 0-3 Frankfurt
Mainz 0-1 Schalke
Augsburg 2-1 Freiburg

Tonight, Dortmund hosts Hamburg, and tomorrow Hoffenheim-Mönchengladbach and Braunschweig-Nürnberg.

2013-09-14 11:28:28 AM
Wow...what the hell was Atkinson thinking??

2013-09-14 11:28:29 AM
Clear foul by Altidore. Hell of a shove.

2013-09-14 11:28:54 AM
Damn Jozy just got robbed.

2013-09-14 11:29:02 AM
Would that have been a goal?  Altidore looked pretty good there.

2013-09-14 11:29:20 AM

Princip's Sandwich: Clear foul by Altidore. Hell of a shove.

Wait, saw wrong. Sagna with the foul there. Atkinson putting on clownshoes.

2013-09-14 11:29:35 AM
That's maybe the worst all I've ever seen in my life.

2013-09-14 11:29:47 AM
Arsenal don't deserve to be ahead

2013-09-14 11:29:56 AM

Lord Jubjub: Would that have been a goal?  Altidore looked pretty good there.

He made it in. No Arsenal defender was in sight. Sunderland got robbed right there.

2013-09-14 11:31:20 AM
That one probably settles the match too. Sunderland might get too frustrated by that to score again. Or they could prove me wrong and come back with a fury. Hope it's the former, for my FFPL purposes.

2013-09-14 11:31:34 AM
Arsenal back 4 looking leaky

Now they do!

2013-09-14 11:33:59 AM
Aaron Ramsey is unconscious.

2013-09-14 11:34:02 AM
Put a fork in Sunderland.

2013-09-14 11:34:18 AM
Well, game over.  Though if the score were 2-3, it would much different.

2013-09-14 11:34:30 AM
And that's game. By Ramsey of all people.

Also, if Ramsey scores twice, does that power up the Grim Reaper enough to take Vigoda?

2013-09-14 11:34:39 AM
Sad fascist on TV right there.

2013-09-14 11:35:14 AM
Sunderland are getting relegated at this rate.

2013-09-14 11:35:45 AM
When did Ramsey turn into... A midfielder who can score?

2013-09-14 11:37:07 AM
BBC commentary makes a good point.  Sagna should have been carded--a red card, even.

2013-09-14 11:37:23 AM

ADubs86: Sunderland are getting relegated at this rate.

With ease. They utterly fallen apart every time something goes wrong. They were utterly uninspired against Swansea, and now they've given up against Arsenal.

2013-09-14 11:38:26 AM

Lord Jubjub: BBC commentary makes a good point.  Sagna should have been carded--a red card, even.

Seeing the full play, a card's a must. He wrapped around the guy. If you can get carded for holding onto the shirt, hugging the guy should be a card.

2013-09-14 11:38:53 AM
Ignoring the lack of an advantage to Sunderland .... Altidore scored, and Atkinson called play back for the free kick, but didn't send Sagna off, because he didn't think it was a goalscoring opportunity, even though Altidore scored.

2013-09-14 11:39:03 AM

Princip's Sandwich: And that's game. By Ramsey of all people.

Also, if Ramsey scores twice, does that power up the Grim Reaper enough to take Vigoda?

That's my concern

The only game with no score is Stoke-City. Bet no one saw that coming.

2013-09-14 11:40:27 AM

I think this is the Ramsey we would have seen much earlier had not that coont Showcross tried to remove his foot from his leg.

How many weeks until Di Canio gets sacked at this rate. It can't keep going like this for much longer before it gets too hot to handle.

So did I. I don't get Villa this season. They're so promising, but they fall by so little each game.

2013-09-14 11:46:36 AM
The MIGHTY Oxford United are drawing 2-2 after 83. Annoyingly, Chesterfield are 2-0 up against Wimbledon which will give Chesterfield a 4 point cushion over the MIGHTY ones at the top of the table.

Who had City dropping points to Cardiff and Stoke when the schedule came out?

Anyone know what the Sunderland Manager's problem was at the end of the match with Arsenal (other than being the Sunderland manager)?  He seemed rather peeved at Giroud's injury, but with AFC up by two goals, I find it hard to believe Giroud would have been trying to waste time...

And WTF is up with Ramsey?  He might be our best signing of the summer... it is great to see him back and better than before the Showcross the Butcher incident.

woo, forgot I had the Insurance on Everton-Chelsea.  Good points day, jumped into the top ten.  Let's see how long that lasts.

Princip's Sandwich: At least he didn't change Jablonski to Jablonec.

Agreed, Jablonec sucks

ADubs86: ADubs86: AC Milan getting BTFO by Torino is the only damper on this weekend for me. Unless of course, Liverpool fail to win.

And right before time, AC rescue the point.

That was quite a boring match until a flash of two goals. Then Juve just sat till the end.

Swansea v Liverpool should be good.

2013-09-15 07:27:46 AM
2nd week in a row I've gotten my banker right and now I'm up to 2nd place in the FFPL!

Sky Sports are full of shiat.

Just look at the way they stitched up Andy Grey so they could sack him and save a bucket load of cash.

Harsh tackle.

Diame's a strong one. He's up and about again.

I think a lot of EPL referees would have carded for that. He got the ball, but it was dangerous and two-footed.

1) Finally, a positive scoring week in the FFPL for me.

2) This weekend's sucked because I've watched a grand total of 30 minutes of the EPL so far and my fantasy EPL team has been shiat.

3) Lineups for Swansea v Liverpool

Swansea: Vorm, Rangel, Flores, Williams, Davies, Britton, Shelvey, Michu, Dyer, Routledge, Bony
Bench: Tremmel, Amat, Tiendalli, de Guzman, Canas, Pozuelo, Vazquez

Liverpool: Mignolet, Wisdom, Skrtel, Sakho, Enrique, Lucas, Gerrard, Henderson, Coutinho, Moses, Sturridge
Bench: Jones, Toure, Alberto, Aspas, Sterling, Ibe, Kelly

I think Pool is the better team, but if Swans play like they have the last few games, I could definitely see them salvaging a draw from it. Sturridge is the man that tips it for me if Liverpool is able to contain Michu and Bony.

2013-09-16 02:33:07 PM
I've got a 1-1 draw here...tempted to give Liverpool a win, but......

2013-09-16 02:33:09 PM
i have a bad feeling about today's match. emotional let down after the win over the mancs, taking a "lesser" opponent for granted, blah blah blah. this match will go a long way to letting us know how schizophrenic 'pool will be this year.

I'd say future Hall of Famer, but then I remembered soccer doesn't have a Hall of Fame.

Yes, there's an English one; yes, there's an American one that has since closed its doors. There's no Hall of Fame for the sport as a whole. For it to really count, you'd have to have one that would induct Pele, Diego Maradona, Franz Beckenbauer, Alfredo di Stefano and Lev Yashin all at once. There isn't a place that'll do that.

STURRIDGE!!!!

Ohhhh this is going to be good.

terrible play by shelvey, but what a poach by sturridge.

dietbubba: If only they'd convert. I am shocked POST and CROSSBAR haven't made an appearance yet

Well, this isn't exactly a problem of Liverpool making 'decent efforts' that never actually get on a goalbound path, like you see a lot of the time in games. They're getting on target. A lot. Swansea's just been having absolutely none of it.

And now the same is happening at the other end of the pitch.

to a certain extent, it doesn't matter. i mean, the results matter, of course, but the fact that we're playing positive free-flowing football instead of bunkering down for a draw on the road is nice.

Why does this team hate success?

My midfield this week:

Snodgrass 2 points
Oscar 1 point
Coutinho 1 point
Fellaini 1 point

Pathetic

We're making Swansea look like barca.

At this rate, I'll take the draw. Aspas needs to never come on for us again. Sakho needs Agger to show him the ropes. If Suarez comes back and does the business with Moses, these close draws should turn into wins.

SOME possession would be nice

A little better placed and that well could have been an Olympic goal.

MOTM: Jonjo Shelvey. Swans should've won this one.

Fark that

Whew. That was a little too close for comfort. Still, we're back on top and unbeaten.

And come in a sweet thirty points...

Missed this match. Good thing I insured my 2-1 'pool pred, and even happier to see Swans get a point out of this one.

20 points and Pool drop points for the first time, I'll take it!

Would like to see our Footie brethren reach the post numbers a normal Sunday NFL thread hits.  Because Drew needs beer, and a nuclear submarine.

Predicted a 1-1 draw instead of 2-2 but will gladly take the 20 points.  2nd place, woooo!

Lt. Cheese Weasel: Would like to see our Footie brethren reach the post numbers a normal Sunday NFL thread hits.  Because Drew needs beer, and a nuclear submarine.

Well, first off, I'm not sure we want to be entrusting Drew with a complex and extremely dangerous war machine complete with nuclear farking weapons, although he's generally responsible when he's sober. Generally.

The post count of the average NFL thread is pretty impressive, and if I had to guess I'd say there are at least 10x the number of NFL fans as there are soccer fans. Probably closer to 15x. And that's fine. I'm pretty happy with the quality of the soccer community, and I'm personally less concerned with post count as I am with having a good thread every weekend.
