This was actually... not funny.

I mean, I know it's topical and I know someone put some work into it. But it's not funny, like FarkTV not funny.

Remember the reactions that Farkers had when we heard Keith Ledger had been cast as the Joker, and when we saw that ridiculous costume?  And we were right.  His performance is still mocked to this day.
And remember how embarrassed we were when Daniel Craig was cast as James Bond?  Whoever heard of a blond James Bond?  We knew it wouldn't work, and it didn't.  Casino Royale was an embarrassing failure.
And now Ben Affleck is being cast as Batman?  I don't even need to see the movie to know how stupid it's going to be, thanks to Fark's 100% track record on casting decisions.  Thanks for saving me the money, Fark!

That was just horrible.

It would have been better if my 7yo taped a cutout of a cape on cowl on the TV covering Affleck and then use the DS to video tape it

False equivalence FTW!

/for the record, I was against neither of the former casting decisions, as they are decent actors
//I do have problems with Ben Affleck, because while he's a good director, he's an actor that can only play Ben Affleck

Let's not put the cart before the horse. The reason anyone cared in the first place is that those movies were guaranteed blockbusters in the first place, and the fans were complaining they were being taken for granted by (respectively) wrong, generic, and wrong+generic casting. Kind of like when your date complains about the restaurant in the car, but still eats the meal you worked to pay for.

Six_By_Nine: he's an actor that can only play Ben Affleck

this is the problem.  it CAN be overcome, but honestly, I don't see it.  I will be pulled out of the film because it won't be Bruce Wayne on the screen....  it will be Ben farking Affleck pretending to be Wayne.  It is the same problem I had with Kevin Bacon in X-Men first class - it is a pretty good movie, and Bacon plays his part well, but all I can think is "why the hell does Kevin Bacon have such a problem with the X-Men?"

People often say Keaton played a good Batman\Bruce Wayne.  No.  He actually sucked, because guess what?  He was the same farking character we had already seen in Mr. Mom and Gung Ho.  No acting, just Keaton being Keaton.

It is why I maintain that Kilmer, while in a pretty campy movie, played Batman well - he BECOMES his characters.  So did Bale - he farking WAS the goddamned Batman.

Clooney sucked as Batman because he simply played Clooney doing a Keaton impression.  It's actually pretty uncanny.

Affleck as Batman will be a very weak point in this film.

Yes, people biatched about Heath Ledger as Joker - but he disappeared into the role.  You see no trace of Ledger on screen.  Affleck can.  not.  do.  that.

THIS

I'd much rather he stuck to the directing and where he could see a part that he could play, do it (I thought his part in The Town was fine).

Hindsight is 20/20.  I honestly could not say that Heath could do that, given his previous history on-screen.  Heath Ledger plays Heath Ledger in every movie he's been in.  Except for the Joker.

Jack couldn't do it.  He was still Jack even as the Joker.  He was OK as the Joker, but it was still just ol' Crazy Jack.  He never vanished into the role. I just don't think Affleck has the chops to vanish into the role, especially one that is partially going to be just Affleck in a business suit, for all intents and purposes.  Affleck is just too well known.  Ledger just really wasn't, and honestly, having seen exactly 2 movies with Ledger in them before Dark Knight (10 things and Knight's Tale) he really didn't seem to be playing the same character.  I could be wrong - but I bet you when this trainwreck pulls into the station that his performance will be if not reviled, then at least panned as a "bad idea".

robsul82: Heath Ledger played Heath Ledger in Brokeback?

I maintain that the film was a misstep and that he should not have taken that role.  It is certainly no classic and I for one am glad that the gay cowboy movie is not the sole legacy that he left.

What would you like to be remembered for?  Plowing Jake Gyllenhall in the ass, or for playing what was possibly the defining cinematic Joker?

I will argue that 98% of the actors do not method act, even the ones that have been critically acclaimed and won Oscars (for acting).  Even your favorite ones.  Hell, I was just in a thread where somebody said that Robin Williams only has two characters.

Was he right?  Maybe.  My point is that  every actor plays himself.  Maybe not all the time, maybe most of the time, maybe only a few characters at a time, maybe only one role breaks the mold and is outstanding.  I think the folks that are critical of actors and how they portray themselves needs to take that criticism and direct it towards the actors that they think are the best in the business.

The other 2%?  That would be Christian Bale,  Daniel Day-Lewis, and maybe a few others I'm forgetting about.  The rest are playing themselves a majority of the time.

frepnog: I just don't think Affleck has the chops to vanish into the role, especially one that is partially going to be just Affleck in a business suit, for all intents and purposes.  Affleck is just too well known.

Who knows?  Maybe all of this criticism will encourage him to take the role more seriously.  After all, it's his first acting gig outside of his movies in a while.

robsul82: Heath Ledger played Heath Ledger in Brokeback?

Given that no straight male saw that movie, yes.  He played Heath Ledger as a gay man.  That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

And yet, plowing Jake Gyllenhal got him the Joker role. Nolan planned for Ledger to play the Joker after realizing that he was "fearless".

Maybe you're a few years behind the times, but we've already seen Affleck in a gritty urban superhero comic role, and it was horrible.  Don't thank us, thank Ben who's admitted that playing a character in a costume sucked and he doesnt like doing it.

Or was it just because Maggie was grateful someone legitimized her brother's acting, and convinced Nolan to give Ledger a chance to do his best Tom Waits impression while wearing clown makeup?

That might be cool.

I'd also like to see a Batman who actually is a DETECTIVE, instead of just freelance American James Bond with bat ears.
