Obama's Plunging Approval Threatens Fall AgendaSyria, other crises have sapped Obama's political capital
Really? Is political capital a real thing? Will congress actually decide to work with him if his numbers go up? Anyone know what GWB's approval numbers were in his second term? Bueller?

Pundits have to pund, hand wringers have to wring, the fact of the matter is that not every moment of a president's term can entail the kind of triumphant success that pushes his approval ratings into the stratosphere. Much of his time is spent doing his job, not the kind of exciting spectacle that elicits more than a yawn from the fickle American political animal. If Obama pulls off this Syria thing he will have well-deserved the Nobel Peace Prize the Swedes gave him prematurely five years ago, If he gets Obamacare up and running before the 2014 election he will have achieved another milestone deserving of applause, and if the benighted residents of red states see their relatives in blue states getting reasonably priced health care while they hobble along under repub obstructionism, they'll think twice about sending their Tea Party reps back to Congress.

My complaint about Obama remains the same--he's too nice. I would have liked to see more arm-twisting and veiled threats, wheeling, dealing and outright intimidation of Congressional conservatives to move his agenda along. If, three years from now, Obamacare is firmly in place, Afghanistan is left to its own devices, Arab extremism/Spring Cleaning is contained, if moderate tax increased have been implemented on the rich, the extremist wing of the repub Party is properly chastened and the finances of the country set on a firm footing, then Obama's legacy will be secure and the Democratic Party's role as the Party of Responsibility (good God, I never thought I'd hear myself say that) will be assured.

"Equal time for idiots" is only a thing for the media, not for me.
It's like when I look at the cover of a book and it says "Stephanie Meyer" or "Dan Brown" on it.  That alone tells me that what I'm about to read is so full of idiocy and poor execution that it's not worth my time to proceed.

"Benghazi" is just slightly short of "birth certificate" as a signaling word.  Even Republican leadership admit it's a non-starter.

Words aren't scary. They are, however, occasionally worthless. Luckily, there are some ways one can quickly recognize if something is worthless or not.

So is this an alt because you trashed the reputation of your old nickname or are you a new fresh dipshiat for us to make fun of or ignore? If this is an alt account, what was your old nickname?

Haha ... that'll learn him for destroying us in back to back landslide elections!!!!    Bet he wont do that again!!!

Presidential approval rates always tend to slump in the second term, and Obama is no different. He took a hit from Syria although if Putin continues to rub his nose in it, that could turn around; Americans historically will coalesce around a President being mocked on the world stage. The IRS and Benghazi are just paper cuts and red meat to the GOP, but nothing outside the norms of previous Presidents.
For those comparing Bushs numbers, there really is no comparison. Bush had over seen a glut of spending, and had bucked his base when he tried to force Immigration reform through Congress against the wishes of his base. Obama is currently carrying a 95% (According to CNN or MSNBC, can't remember which) approval rating amongst Democrats which helps his over all numbers, where Bush slumped among Republicans.
Considering some of the things Obama has done, and the embarrassing way he stumbled over Syria it does demonstrate that both sides are very partisan and party loyalty for both Democrats and Republicans seems to run pretty high. (Though the Republican brand has suffered quite a bit so I think Democrats are more staunchly loyal to party right now than Republicans)

I think hes just another guy in a cube, assigned a name/password. See you must recall that there was quite the buzz and such during the Zimmerman trial. Thats where he gets his name of course, and it is also the time that he showed up, right around the highest upswing near the end, and he never went away.

Seeing as the only persons to ever agree with him has been Brickhouse and Randomjsa.

Let me blow your mind. Since NW has never effectively articulated an argument, or swayed anyone to his point of view that wasn't already there, I believe hes one of two things.

1. A shill actually working against the GOP, as a caricature of an idiot meant to help us sharpen our mental and social swords on, a scratching post of bad logical fallacies if you will.

2. An Idiot.

I wish he would just dick with the obstructionist idiots. The same policy gets implimented (nothing), but the result is so much more satisfying.

- Issue an official Presidential pardon for Ted Cruz and Marco Rubio's parents for illegal immigration
- Nominate Norquist to the Presidential Council of Economic Advisors
- Give sterling endorsements of Boehner and Cantor during House re-election season (especially TV ads - praise them for seeing eye to eye with Democrats)
- Offer to appoint Rush Limbaugh as White House Press Secretary
- Hint at a 2016 run by Michelle Obama on the grounds of saving on moving costs

You're right. People are addicted to farking that chicken that it's time to find them a 12 Step program. Give it up, there is nothing significant about Benghazi.

What Obama should have done:

Have the filibuster already reformed the moment he came into office. The majority in the Senate was made possible by unexpected blue votes in districts that were highly vulnerable and wouldn't last in 2010 anyway. Plus, James Madison himself made an excellent case against the filibuster all the way back in the 18th farking century.

Save healthcare for later. Spend his Jan 09 political capital on a stimulus with 0 tax cuts, and have it be 813 billion, not a number that starts with 7, because that made idiots blame him for TARP because that also started with a 7.

Then put in the Brown-Vitter TBTF amendment to Dodd-Frank and ram that through early instead of focusing on Obamacare as priority 1. America would support banking reform far better than healthcare, and a win on that front would win political capital to make passing PPACA much easier later on.

Get Elizabeth Warren prepped and ready to do battle with Scott Brown for when Kennedy died rather than have her lose a pointless fight over an appointment.

Send clear signals to Congressional Democrats that he has their back on postponing sanctions on Iran while diplomacy over the nuclear issue is pursued. When Turkey and Brazil get Iran to the table, it would have been a victory rather than an awkward wrench in a plan for sanctions that by that point were unstoppable.

As commander-in-chief of the military, order the personnel at Gitmo to fly the innocent and/or unprosecutable detainees home and release them. Tell national security pearl clutchers to go fark themselves.

Make student loans dischargeable in bankruptcy.

Abolish the debt ceiling.

Reform the tax code in the most important and difficult manner possible: Link the rates to economic growth, so that they rise during the good times and decrease in bad. Revenue from booms will make stimulus in bad times less strenuous.

Restructure financial laws so that holding large reserves of capital results in negative interest.

I don't know enough about securities to know how it would be done, but do whatever needs to be done so that the Goldman Sachs aluminum scam becomes illegal.

Use the death of bin Laden as a catalyst to pull out of Iraq, end the Patriot act, put a sunset on the AUMF, and end the security theater. Move the TSA personnel out of the airports, train stations, et. al., and into the supertanker loading docks where the actual bad shiat could sneak in. Who cares if Al Qaeda isn't entirely gone? Large-scale attacks are incredibly difficult to pull off, especially now that we have a DHS that is on the lookout for them. Had the DHS been in place, we could have prevented 9/11 even without violating the 4th amendment or installing naked body scanners at airports.

Whatever it is Reagan did to mental health facilities, undo it.

Those are the big ones.

Yeah these articles pop up every month or so whenever there is a statistical polling blip.  Basically Obama's approval rating fluctuates between 42-52% (which is actually better than many of his predecessors) but conservatives need something to hold onto that will give them hope the Evil, Kenyan, Muslim usurper will be swept out of office.
