Is it bad that I actually like Littlefinger just a bit? ( shrewd and calculating evil trumps Joffrey's crude depravities, IMHO)

Not really.  I like him a lot.  I don't even think he's especially evil.  He's got loose morals where it comes to achieving his ends but aside from a few necessary murders (and in GoT, who hasn't?) he hasn't really done anything truly evil.  I will agree that he may be one of the most dangerous characters in GoT, but not the most evil.

If you compare him to Bolton's Bastard, the Mountain, or even to Tywin or Varys, he's not very evil at all.

I don't see Varys as evil. I think his actions are based on what he perceives as the greater good or the lesser of evils.

Varys is not evil. Pretty much the only time he is not lying is when he said that he does what he does for the good of the realm.

Really Fark? 750 posts and no one has posted this yet? You guys are slipping. He first created the Daleks in an attempt to commit genocide and later developed a bomb that, when detonated, would destroy all of existence. He performed experiments on anyone, including dead family members, assassinated the Council of 12 in order to become emperor and had no qualms about betraying his creations if it would serve his purposes. He created a virus capable of destroying all living things, is directly responsible for the destruction of several planets and has a body count that makes Hitler, Stalin and Pol Pot etc look like bushleague amateurs (multiple TRILLIONS).  I can truly think of no one more evil than the dread Emperor of the Daleks, Davros.

BlackCat23: you're probably not the most popular guy at the parties

Yeah, because the internet, indeed, Fark, is JUST like real life.

BlackCat23: So, go on, enjoy being right.

I always do.

BlackCat23: I posted my opinion, since I found the "following orders" side of things pretty farking evil, not only that, he orchestrated, even built the curriculum.

He never used the "just following orders" as a rationale.  He actively questioned his correctness and what his rights were.

He was faced with a tough decision and made a judgement call, based on very real fears of total extinction of the entire species.  There is no objective right or wrong there.

But thanks for really letting us in on your political views.   Almost as cool as the people who simply posted a picture of the pope or suggested God.

Yeah, I'm the hipster.

You could, at any point in time, stop throwing yourself under my very standard issue horse and then complaining about how high I'm sitting.  Get an education, get a lot more exposure to culture while you're at it.  If you're best pick for "MOST" evil is a very common soldier placed in a life or death situation with more rationale than morality, you really do lead a sheltered existence.

Work as hard at that as you do biatching on the internet and you may be able to get on a standard issue horse yourself and people won't think you're being shallow, reactionary, and willfully ignorant.

Sorry but no. Littlefinger seems to be doing what he's doing out of simple petty revenge and a bit of a desire for power. Pretty standard stuff. Joffrey does what he does because he can and because he enjoys it. He likes beating people or having them beaten, he likes torture and death and killing, he enjoys watching people squirm when they can't do anything about the abuse he puts them through. For Littlefinger all those are just a means to an end, a tool.

ZeroCorpse: Perhaps the most evil and the most true-to-life.

[psyc2301.wikispaces.com image 460x308]

I don't believe there's such a thing as "evil" in and of itself -- I believe there's selfishness and selflessness, as well as cruelty and compassion, and what society tends to label as "evil" is actually cruelty and/or selfishness. Nobody declares themselves evil (unless they're deranged). Hitler didn't twirl an imaginary mustache and say "Now we will unleash my evil plan!" -- In fact, most people who society calls "evil" actually see themselves as the good guy. Hitler was convinced that his choices were for the good, even though to everyone outside of his influence they were obviously selfish and cruel. The same goes for a guy like Pat Robertson. He is 100% convinced he is the good guy, and that the homosexuals, atheists, and others whom he hates are the "evil" ones. However, when we step back we see he's the one acting selfishly and with cruelty.

This kind of view is very understanding, but it does not deal with sociopaths.

Sociopaths are evil in a way that most people cannot be.

That's a boring equivocation.
Psychopaths, maybe.  Sociopath, which can include more typical apathetic or antisocial people, not really all that evil, just detached.

Unless you see yourself as some sort of shining moral beacon standard that everyone should live up to.

Common view of the religious, or quasi-religious(those who ditched faith but still maintain their supposed moral superiority).

Psychopaths at least feel remorse. Sociopaths don't.

You can't "get through" to a sociopath. There's nothing there to fix. They're just evil.

I believe he feels he's acting in the best interest of the kingdom (as he sees it) but that doesn't mean he isn't evil.  He cuts out the tongues of and enslaves small children (who sometimes die in the process).  And depending on how far you are in the books, he has done other things also "for the greater good".

\I like his character too

I don't care either way, but I do enjoy pointing out the flaws in others.  Welcome to the internet.

If you want to even remotely sound as if you know what you're talking about, you should at least read the wiki on psychopathy.
