The police response was perfectly reasonable.  If you don't want to be detained while you're story gets checked out, don't carry around assault rifles in public places.

At this point I feel people are just trolling for lawsuits by walking down the streets opening carrying rifles...

If the cops want to be realistic about it, pull up, tell them to drop their magazines:

*if they refuse, arrest them for refusing a lawful order

*If they comply, drive away.

Once people lose the OH WOW SHOCK FACTOR they will stop trying to be all cool about it.

Sorry, but I'm attempting to live in a civilized society. One that doesn't require people to carry guns for 'self-defense' from those imaginary hordes of hoodlums out there. If I see someone carrying an AR-15 I'm going to assume it's some nutcase looking to shoot up the place. Because if I'm wrong, the worst that will happen is the guy carrying the gun will spend some time talking to the cops. But if I'm right, then maybe identifying him before he starts shooting might save lives.

Depends on the laws of the state you live in. If it is legal to open carry then you are just infringing on people's rights. Don't like it change the law. People can't just call the police because they see something they don't like

For example: people used to call the cops when they saw 2 men walking down the street holding hands

My point was these attention whores are doing it on purpose not to exercise their right but to create a stir. Cop tells them to drop their magazines (ammunition) and they comply then let them be.

If they fail to get the attention and media they obviously crave by carrying a camera with them, then what will they be without the spotlight?

Not even going to bother listing my "gun" credentials, trolls will still label me as a gun graber anyways.

The laws allowing carrying rifles in public weren't meant do you can just stroll down main street with a semi-auto rifle or 12 gauge and then grab lunch at a restaurant.  It's meant for people actually out hunting or needing a rifle in the country.

I go to the farmers market every week (last month not withstanding) and have 0 incidents what so ever.   Only incident was once I was trying for a parking spot and the lady almost backed up completely into me.   Horn fixed that.   Bingo Bongo.   Done.

People can and do call the police when they see something they don't like. It's the police's job to check it out and to see if something illegal is actually happening.

Just ask any homeless dude.

This is only something you can confidently assert wit the benefit of hindsight.

If these people could be proven to have had real intention to start killing people and were caught/stopped because the police got involved, would you still by crying about their right to carry?

"Lawsuits over similar arrests have led to at least four settlements in Wisconsin. In each case, those who were arrested received money."
This seems like a legit way to get our money back from our government, and maybe our rights. Maybe.

How about no? For every mass shooter there are literally nearly ten million law abiding gun owners.

You are statistically more likely to die of cancer thann being shot.

In my state I think this would be considered "brandishing," which is a no-no even if you have a CCR. And it's a pretty smart farking law for exactly this reason - you can be armed, but you need to keep your weapon concealed so you aren't scaring people into thinking you're another mass-murdering nutjob.

As a gun owner myself, these dipshiats are not helping gun rights. They're making people more afraid of guns, and more afraid of gun rights advocates by making them all look like lunatic attention whores. But if you suggest the laws be changed to curb this kind of ridiculous bullshiat, you're branded a gun-grabbing anti-American who hates the flag and bald eagles.

Are you equating 2 men carrying deadly weapons to two men holding hands?  Do you really think the general populace sees these two activities as an equal threat to their well-being or just "something they do not like".

It's not an inanimate object if someone is wielding it. How can citizens or police tell the difference between these guys and a guy who's on his way to shoot up a park? You farking can't. You have to wait until they start shooting before you know. These dumb@sses will get the police called on them every time, and rightfully so, because if someone is brandishing a rifle in public, you have to assume the worst. You have to. What if you had witnessed the Aurora shooter walking toward the theater with his rifle? Would you think, "Well, that's probably just a citizen expressing his 2nd Amendment rights. I'll wait to see if I hear gunshots and people screaming before I call the police."?This shiat isn't helping gun owners one bit. It's firing people up to support new restrictions.
