Delta flight 143 from Frankfurt to Detroit safely completed an unscheduled landing at Dublin International Airport after diverting out of an abundance of caution to examine the source of an odor in the aircraft.

Who farted, y'all?

FTA:
"Delta has not officially issued a statement about what happened."
"Statement from Delta:"

This makes me happy.

I think if I saw people in biohazard suits investigating the plane I just stepped off of, I'd be a little freaked out.

I wonder if airplane seats have activated charcoal in the cushions.

You do realize that part of the Dublin airport is technically US Territory, since that's where the entry check is made by DOJ and Homeland Sec, just like Vancouver and a few others.

What better way to double check everyone and everything on the ground by US feds before it even gets near the US mainland or drops out of sight over the Atlantic?

For a would-be mischief maker of the terrorist bent, you'd hope the Dependz you're wearing are super strength if the plane is diverted to Dublin.

The upside is you when you land in the US, it's just like leaving a domestic flight. Get your bags (well it is Delta, so fill out the missing bag forms) and jump a taxi.

Ireland is a magical place. Went all over: Dublin, Belfast, Kilkenny, Shannon, basically everywhere. Everybody was very nice; more then happy to point the way for wayward tourists. The food was amazing and had a lot more variety than I had expect.

So, you'd recommend it over Detroit?

The one thing that's actually good in Detroit is the airport.  Just make sure you're connecting and not staying.

Yes, I would recommend Ireland over Detroit. There are far fewer burnt out rusting hulks of cars in Ireland.

I think people put on their 'happy goggles' when they go to other countries....

I've had multiple Irish co-workers comment than the US seemed 'more friendly' when they went to visit.  But nearly all of my American friends who have been to Ireland seem to think Ireland is 'more friendly'.

Usually it's my luggage that gets to visit all the interesting places.

And they definitely have more sheep in Ireland too!

Didn't you see the smelly t-shirt study on the interwebs this week? Chicks want guys that smell of different DNA. What's more "different" than international (man of mystery...)

Maybe a chick flying the Delta equipment got a whiff of some Dublin DNA and needed a layover, so to speak.

A Local 4 viewer who is on the flight called in to say the plane was put down and evacuated in Dublin.

Why would you kill the plane? WHY? You bastards!
