He should get that leg tingling looked at, though.  Might be a sign of poor circulation.  Maybe even a deep vein thrombosis.

Or suspension considering that he wasn't kicked out of the game for more than what the Carolina DE did.

No suspension is necessary. Just a simple $6K fine (or whatever the minimum is) to set up the "multiple offender" consequences if he screws up again.

I mean, he's right in that he's not a repeat, dirty player. He just fubared up this time.

He's already received a fine for a facemask of Jay Cutler.

"Clay Matthews on Thursday wouldn't reveal whether he was fined for his late hit..."

Wouldn't it be public knowledge if he was?  As in, doesn't the league have to announce it?

2013-09-13 12:15:57 PM
Hey, I'm a Packer fan and I think a fine is justified.  On one hand: Kaepernick is a proven runner, who you can't expect to just hop out of bounds; I bet Matthews doesn't make that leap if it had been Peyton Manning or something. On the other hand: dude, you took a flying leap and high-tackled a QB two yards out of bounds!  Settle down big fella.

/There is a difference between a player making a dirty play (Mathews in this case), and a dirty player (*cough SUH cough*)

3 years ago. One screw up every few years seems acceptable. Doesn't mean "free pass" it just means "not cumulative."

Now let us never speak of this again.

Not necessarily. And I'd have to think that if he wasn't fined, he'd be crowing about it to defend himself from the "dirty player" accusations.

Frankly, he didn't hurt anyone and he kept it on the field. IMO, as long as he's not out there injuring people or getting arrested and driving drunk and all that, he can be as loud and dickish as he wants. He's not diving at people's kness or stomping people, etc.

The guy is over-demonstrative on the field and sideline week in and week out, so I get why people get that impression of him. In the preseason game against Seattle, he got a sack and stood over Wilson yelling, somehow avoiding an obvious personal foul for taunting. But like I said up there a few comments, as long as he's not trying to injure people or getting into legal trouble...whatever, man.

Ya, I'm a Niners fan and I would call him a "dirty player." It was very much a cheap shot on Kap, though, and he had advertised prior to the game that he'd have no qualms about taking such a shot. Based on his pregame quotes plus the dirty hit, he should be suspended for one game, IMHO.

I gave Clay some slack out of respect for his uncle and old man. Hell, even his grandpa. He comes from good stock.

But that's long since burned up. At this point he's a fine pass rusher but I wish he'd STFU. I don't think he's trying to injure, but he sure is being a dick pretty consistently.

I generally hate the over-demonstrative guys. What would happen if the offensive lineman whooped and hollered in his face after each of the 30 or so plays where he was successfully blocked? Why does a guy who gets an occasional sack get to do his little on-field theatrics?

snowshovel: Why does a guy who gets an occasional sack get to do his little on-field theatrics?

Because that's effectively a TD for a guy in the front seven? (As in, those happen at a number similar to offensive touchdowns in the league, so it's a pretty rare feat that's not easy to do).

I'm not sure why everyone gets so upset about celebrations.

Think about it - you're considered a top-end pass rusher if you can get ten sacks in a year. That's less than one per game! Each sack is probably worth a few hundred thousand on their next contract to a pass rusher. You wouldn't celebrate that?

Night Night Cream Puff: Don't forget awesome hair subby.

[latimesblogs.latimes.com image 400x279]

My girlfriend has dubbed him "the pretty hair one."

My daughter (4) says he looks like a girl. I told "that's because he's a Packer".

/Obviously a Bears fan
//Lots of friends and family are Packer fans
///This girl of mine loves "watching the Bears" with me, but the other day I was in the kitchen grabbing a drink* during the game and she came in and told me she thought the Bears scored a touchdown. I gave here the "what are you talking about" look. She said the players were clapping and holding both hands in the air like this (she shows me the TD sign). I say "babe, the Bears aren't playing. She says "yeah, the green and yellow ones with the 'G' by their name." Dammit, we have some work to do this Sunday. Hopefully she doesn't fall in love with the purple "Bears".

*shut up; my wife wasn't home. she takes the opportunity of me watching the game with my daughter to go do other stuff

My issue with celebrations isn't that the player is happy. My issue is THAT IS YOUR farkING JOB. And you are already getting paid an asston of money to do it.

I don't have to dance in front of a local TV news crew every time I build a server or save a database. Save that shiat for open mic nite at the improv and line the fark up for the next play.

I 'get' a spike or a fist-pump. But a choreographed acting SNL-sized skit? fark off.

I just don't see what the point of getting worked up over a sack-dance is. It's ridiculous enough that I concern myself with the outcome of the game as much as I do, but to get my panties twisted over something as inconsequential as a little hip-wiggle or whatever after a guy makes a play is too much.

The suspension would not be for the late hit but the punch on Staley after the play.  The NFL claims that it is going to penalize the instigators heavily this season, and Frank Alexander was thrown out of his game with Seattle on Sunday for essentially the same punch that Matthews threw.  Since Matthews was not thrown out of the game like he should have been given the precedent set earlier in the day, it makes sense for the NFL to suspend him.
